ANALYSIS & RECOMMENDATIONS

The effects of the National Action Plan and Army operations in North Waziristan and Khyber Agency against terrorism continue having a posi-tive impact on the Security situation in the country. Though there have been sporadic attacks during the month, the one major incident was the Church bombings in Lahore killing 15 worshippers. On 11th March.

The other major issue was the Rangers raid on 9-0, the HQ of the MQM. This led to a very large number of alleged criminals, well known and wanted terrorists, extortionists, etc. being arrested. A huge number of arms and ammunition was also captured, some very sophisticated. Though this resulted in unstable conditions in the metropolis, no major untoward incident took place, and actually the Security situation in the city has markedly improved.

The Saudi military intervention in Yemen has polarized the Pakistani nation on sectarian basis. The issue has the potential to negatively impact the internal security of Pakistan unless the government treads through this minefield very carefully.

Businesses and Commercial operations can continue as normal, but with increased security measures and journey management. Remaining vigi-lant and aware of the surroundings is strongly advised.
