“The

piloting

process is

underway

with several

restaurants

using the

new

systems”

From the desk of Tom Lindblom

CKE has recently begun the process to re-place the back office ma-chines in all Corporate and Franchise locations for both Carl’s and Hardee’s locations. This endeavor is to satisfy PCI regulations to replace the XP operating system in all restaurants with a newer approved Windows 7 op-erating system which will be supported by Microsoft until January 14, 2020.

This upgrade will resolve many perfor-mance related concerns reported in recent months, remove antiquat-ed hardware in favor of a more reliable device and increase the operational efficiency of the back of-fice applications. Our plan

is to have this conversion completed by the end of spring next year. In order to meet these expecta-tions, systems will be re-placed in the coming months starting at Carl’s (currently underway) fol-lowed by Hardee’s loca-tions which is scheduled to start the first part of January.

Rollout Plan

Carl’s The piloting process is underway with several restaurants using the new systems; feedback has been extremely positive. This phase of the conver-sion process to Windows 7 will last a few more weeks while the final touches are completed to the overall process. Gen-

eral rollout will begin at corporate locations and is slated to start later this month. Hardee’s Hardee’s back office will complete initial develop-ment and begin quality assurance testing the week of September 9th. The iterative process of fine tuning the installation process should last until pilot testing starts the last part of October, early part of November. Piloting will last until after the holiday season. We will begin rollout to Hardee’s corpo-rate locations the first week in January with the entire process for both brands being completed the end of March, early April.

chain.

See what our other franchises have to say about

CKE’s partnership with ControlScan……

"ControlScan was able to walk me through the

process of filling out my PCI SAQ (self-

assessment questionnaire) and also scanned my

store for PCI vulnerabilities. I did not have much

experience with PCI compliance, but ControlS-

can was very helpful throughout the process." -

We have be-gun the rollout of coupon scanning to our company-owned

Hardee’s restaurants! By scanning coupons in our res-taurants, speed-of-service and our in-store controls are both improved. With hundreds of active coupons at any given point in time, scanning the coupons takes the guesswork out of finding the correct cou-pon to redeem and it ensures that the coupon requirements

are all fulfilled.

With coupon scanning, our Marketing department can produce coupons more quick-ly than our present methods, coupons are redeemed at or-der taking much more quickly and in-store controls are im-proved…a real win for our op-eration!

Our pilot store restaurants that tested the new facility were high supporters of the new technology. They found the technology to be faster than present coupon redemption

methods and very easy to use. The rollout to our Hardee’s stores has just be-gun and it will be completed within the next few months.

We have rolled out a new “Change Due” enhance-ment to our Hardee’s POS system. The same enhance-ment is also in test within our Carl’s Jr. Texas based restau-rants. This enhancement is specifically for our drive-through operation and it in-tends to speed the tendering process.

Within our Hardee’s opera-tion, this is particularly useful where we use the dual drive-through “Delivery Lanes”. By running out to the Lane2 cus-tomer with coin change in hand, 31% of the cash-paying

customers will be serviced without requiring a 2nd round trip. With such round trips av-eraging 30 seconds, this new enhancement has the poten-tial to significantly speed up your drive-through operation!

And if you don’t have a 2nd

drive-through delivery lane, this enhancement can still be used to speed up your drive-through operation. Other QSR chains have found that having the coin change due ready for the customer pro-gressing to the window can shave 7 seconds off of the drive-through average Win-dow time. During your break-fast and lunch rush periods, this translates to a 5-10% speed-of-service improvement which means that you will have the opportunity to ser-vice more cars during those critical rush periods!
