Guest Speaker - Sara Wilkins-robotics Sara explained that Digital technology is a compulsory subject for reporting

next year. We were shown different forms of technology and how they are

being integrated into the classrooms. Currently at KDHS we have a wide

range of technology available for us to use in the classroom with our

students. With the requirement of reporting on the Digital Technologies

Learning Area in 2018, we are using this technology to creatively imbed

aspects of this Learning Area into others including Maths, English and

Science.

Dash and Dot Robots Dash is a real robot. He responds to voices, can navigate objects, dances and

sings. Using a variety of apps the students can program him to play their

own song on xylophone, they can retell stories, dress him up as characters,

write complex instructions (codes) for him, the possibilities are endless.

Dot is the brains of a robot. She is similar to Dash, but cannot

move. Students can interact with her in various ways, play many games

with her and then using certain apps, learn how these games are created, then make their own.

Sphero Sphero is a spherical robot toy that connects to the iPads via Bluetooth. There are a number of apps that can be used to

control the device. Students can free drive the device or write code for it to get it to follow complex instructions to carry

out certain tasks.

Edison Robots Edison is a LEGO compatible robot which means students can let their imagination run wild. It teaches students about

robotics and programming while making things such as remote control robots or cars for example. This is the final step in

coding robots the school currently has.

OSMO Osmo is a unique educational gaming accessory that uses reflective technology to link the iPad to what is happening on a

table. We currently have the apps Numbers, ABC, Tangram, Newton and Masterpiece. Numbers gets students to

complete maths activities, ABC gets them to spell words, Masterpiece helps them to draw pictures on a piece of paper that

are reflected off the IPad, Newton is an interactive science game, and Tangram has multiple levels for students to interact

with physical Tangram pieces on the screen.

Little Bits littleBits is a platform of easy-to-use electronic building blocks that empower students to invent anything, from their own

remote controlled car, to a smart home device. The Bits snap together with magnets so is a great introductions to circuits

for the little ones.

Snap-on Circuits These are the next level in circuit building. The pieces snap together with press

studs and students are able to experiment with various inputs and outputs such

as buzzers, lights and motors and discover how circuits work.

Wearable Technology This is the final step in our schools current circuitry technology. Using copper

strips, LEDs and watch batteries, students are able to create many types of

circuits and technically wear it. From lit up pieces of jewellery to Christmas cards

with lit up trees on the front, the possibilities are endless.

Makey Makey Using a simple mother board, alligator clips and a USB cable to connect it to a laptop, Makey Makey turns any everyday

object into an interactive device. Students can use bananas to spell words, lead pencil arrows to control games, playdough

to enter answers to sums, prices of fruit to play pianos, app smash apps together to create their own versions of games like

Operation - the possibilities are endless.

Any parents wishing to see how the robotics work can contact the school and Sara will do an afternoon session.

Minutes from previous meeting were read - They were moved by Kerry Forsyth and seconded by Jane Ryan.

Principal’s Report

• Student Leadership Camp - Our student leaders joined with those from Tammin PS to attend a two day camp at

Camp Kulin. They learnt valuable team work and leaderships skills. A big thank you to Paul Brown for attending as

a male supervisor and bus driver, and Mrs Innes for organising.

• Winter Carnivals - Information for both Primary and Secondary Winter Carnivals have gone out with students. The

Primary Winter Carnival is at Cunderdin on the 9th June. At this stage we will have 2 x football, 2 x netball and 1

hockey team. The Secondary Winter Carnival is on 14th June in Quairading. This is a different format to the

Primary, where students mix together with others and paly a variety of sports

• Staffing - I am currently in the process of filling staff vacancies

that are occurring in Semester 2 this year. When I have concrete

information I will be letting the school community know.

• Public Board Meeting - Our first Public Board Meeting will be

held on Wednesday 14th June, after the Year 5/6 Assembly. I will

be communicating this in the next newsletter.

• Attendance - We continue to have increasing success with our

attendance.Currently our school attendance rate is 91% which is

just lower than the average for all schools in Western Australia.

Treasurer’s report • Funds have been received through uniforms and fundraising.

• Statement was moved by Linda and seconded by Kerry.

School lunches • Unfortunately the bakery is no longer doing these.

• Linday Taylor has said the co-op will do Monday lunches.

• Sport and Rec will do Tuesday – Friday.

• A new menu will be sent out shortly.

Water fountains • Fountains have been installed and were funded by the P&C. Many

thanks to Sandra Doncon for organising this. They are a hit!

Fundraising • Jacki Peak will organise to send out plate orders in term 4 .

• Shopper dockets will resume term 3 so bring in your receipts from the co-op and place them in the box at the front

office. No alcohol or cigarettes will be added. Thank you to Jane Ryan for offering to count up all of the receipts.

Thanks to Linda Taylor for her and the co-ops continued support.

• Kerry Forsyth suggested we sell soup on the last 4 Fridays of this term and the first 4 of next term. Kerry will
