What are Household Hazardous Waste Products and Where Can I Dis-pose of Them? (Rainbow Environmental Services Website Information)Leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable or reactive ingredients are

considered to be “household hazardous waste” or “HHW.” Products such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, light bulbs, computers, and pesticides that contain potentially hazardous in-gredients require special care when you dispose of them.

Improper disposal of HHW can include pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers, or in some cases putting them out with the trash. The dangers of such disposal methods might not be immediately obvious, but improper disposal of these wastes can pollute the environ-ment and pose a threat to human health.

The closest HHW Center is located at Rainbow Disposal, 17121 Nichols Street, Gate 6, Hun-tington Beach (north of Slater, south of Warner, between Beach & Gothard.) They are open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. They are closed on holidays and rainy days. To confirm if they are open during rain events, call 714-834-4000 or get a recorded message at 714-834-6752.

Expired and Unused Medi-cine - Most medicines used in a home are not considered hazard-ous waste. They can be disposed of in the trash after being secured in durable packaging. Specif-ic disposal instructions can be found at www.oclandfills.com - click on Hazardous Waste.

*The TeamThe Green Valley Swim Team is a neighborhood sum-

mer competitive swim program. The team emphasizes proper swimming techniques through stroke improvements, building endurance and time improvements. This provides the opportunity for all participants to become well-rounded swimmers. The team also provides growth through devel-oping team spirit, good sportsmanship, goal setting and so-cial activities.

The Green Valley Swim Team is a community-based program run by the Green Valley Homeowners Recreation Association. We use Green Valley’s 25 yard, six lane, out-door heated pool for practices and home meets. We average over 200 swimmers that range in age from 5 to 18 years of age.

*Social EventsWe sponsor a number of social events, including a kick-

off dinner for the entire family, dinner nights, age group parties and parent nights.

*Swim MeetsSwimmers compete in dual meets with teams from Foun-

tain Valley, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Lake Forest. The dual meets are held on Saturday mornings. Swimmers participate in heats and official events based on their age, gender and ability. Each swimmer will swim in two or more individual events or relays in each dual meet. Our best swimmers will have an opportunity to swim at the Relay Finals and League Finals meets against the best from all of the other teams.

*Swimmer CommitmentSwimmers commit to attend a minimum of three of the

five practices per week and participate in as many meets as possible. Swimmers who practice four to five times per week are the ones who benefit most from the program.

*Family CommitmentRunning a swim program is a huge undertaking and re-

quires the participation of all members. A core group of volunteers commit their time by serving on the swim team committee year-round. Then, during the season, the par-ticipation of each swim team family is essential to running every swim meet. Therefore, family participation is man-datory. At registration, every family will be required to sign up for a requisite number of duties. These jobs will include, as example, food booth, lane line-up, timing, set-up, tear-down, record keeping and more. Be prepared at registration to sign up for your jobs or pay a buy-out fee of $450.

*North Pool ClosuresThe North Pool will be closed Monday through Friday

for practices. From April 9 to June 22, practice times are 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and June 25 to July 27 from 7:30 a.m. to noon. It will also be closed during home meets: Saturday, May 19, June 2, 16 & 23.

*SponsorsSponsors contributions are an important part of the bud-

get. Sponsors receive recognition in the team communi-cations, announcements at meets and listing in the Green Valley Gazette, which is mailed to 1,048 homes. The fee to sponsor this season is $200.

A volunteer buy-out charge of $450 is available, in addition to registration fees, if you choose not to volunteer throughout the season. The fee for missing a job assignment is $100 and must be paid before your child can swim in the following meet.

*QualificationsTo qualify for the Dolphin

Swim Team, swimmers must feel comfortable in deep water and have some knowledge of the basic strokes (free style, back stroke, breast stroke & butter-fly.) You do not need to be an accomplished swimmer. Young/new swimmers will be tested for water safety. Registration fees will be refunded if water safety is not acceptable. Please keep in mind, this is a swim team and not swim lessons.
