What is a Potential High Attainer(PHA)?

•Based on KS2 SAT results.

•In 2019, pupils needed 28 marks out of 50 to reach the expected standard in reading, 58 out of 110 in maths, and 36 out of 70 for spelling, punctuation and grammar.

•A score of 100 means the child is working ‘at the expected standard’ for a Year 6 child. 80 is the lowest possible score and 120 is the highest.

•A scaled score of 99 or less means they haven’t reached the government’s ‘expected standard’.

•A potential high attaining student would have a SAT score of 110+.

What does this look like in a classroom?

• All tasks within the classroom are differentiated, this means that they are scaffolded to support students who need additional help but there is also a more difficult option for those higher achieving students. You child should be choosing to challenge themselves and completing the ‘Think it’ tasks where possible.

• Your child should be engaging in 1-2 hours of independent study at home each night, in addition to homework.

Know it Grasp it Think it

Describe three things that happened in the events leading up

to Jesus’ Crucifixion.

Explain three things that happened in the lead to Jesus’ crucifixion, it must include the terms: Passover, disciples and

Eucharist.

Explain in detail two events that happened in the lead up to Jesus’ death and explain the significance

of that for Christians today.

Work Experience Opportunities (Year 10)

How can I support my child?

• Engage in conversations about their revision. Test them or ask them to explain a topic they have been revising to you.

• Ensure they have a clear structure/ timetable for their revision. Are there certain nights they are busy?

Revision timetable• Be realistic, don’t plan to revise every

night, all night. • Break revision up into maximum 30

minute slots.• Plan in some relaxation time- ensure

you’re doing some form of exercise or hobby.

How can I support my child?

You can provide them with a quiet space to work, ideally not their bedroom. Why?

• One of the symptoms of stress can be lack or sleep, or poor sleep. By revising in the place that they sleep, they might associate that room with work or worries.

• By revising in a communal space such as the kitchen, it will allow you to monitor their progress and to have conversations about their revision. It will also allow you to spot the warning signs of stress, worry or frustration.

How can I support my child?

• Ensure they’re in school each day.

95% attendance is 2 weeks of lessons missed each year. This is valuable time lost with a subject specialist.

What does ‘revision’ look like?

• Revision is the re-capping of prior knowledge that has been learnt already, it is not the cramming of information into your head a few weeks before the exams.

• Revision involves going over study material you’ve already produced and recalling past knowledge that is already stored in your brain.

• How easy is ‘revision’?

You’re more likely to remember the words if there is a meaning

or story behind them.

I went into my houseand got stuck to the floor. I reached for

the wall but it was all made of glass. There were trees growing

inside the house and…

• Which ones did you remember? • Why? • How can that help us?

We often remember the beginning, end, repeated or memorable words.

To succeed, the information needs to move from your short

term memory, from your long term memory. This

will happen with consistent, repeated

revision.
