Our teacher Miss Anderson was showing us how to write stories when Mrs Gresham walked into the classroom.

She said, “I hear you are learning about insects. Let’s go on a trip to see some.”

“Hooray!”

We followed Mrs Gresham onto the Owairoa Magic School Bus.

Matthew and Ella yelled out,

“ We hope none of the insects bite us, as we have forgotten our insect spray.”

She pushed the red button and Snap! Crackle! Pop! The bus changed into an Ant.

Cory looked out the window. “Oh no!” he said, “We have shrunk!” Michaela yelled. We are in a forest next to an ant hill.

Mrs Gresham drove us into the ant hill.

We saw lots of ants doing different jobs. Frances said, “Look at those ants. They are carrying food with their mouths. They must be very strong.”

All of a sudden soldier ants came running to protect the Queen. “On the bus everyone, quick!” shouted Mrs Gresham.

Riki- Lee tripped over as she was running to the bus. Miss Anderson quickly picked her up, just in time!

Mrs Gresham quickly pressed the pink button and the bus turned into an insect with wings.

The Owairoa Magic School Bus flapped its wings. “We are really high off the ground!” said Edie-Rae.

The bus landed on a tree in a rainforest. “Look at all the butterflies on the tree,” said Jase. We all looked out the bus windows and there were thousands of butterflies on the trunk of the tree.

“According to my research,” said Frances, “Butterflies don’t like the cold so they fly away to another place that is warm.” “Oh wow!” said Isabel.

The bus stopped on a flower and we got off. Slurp! Slurp! “Mrs Gresham what is the bus doing?” said Ryan. “Well! the bus is drinking the nectar from the flowers.”

“According to my research,” said Cory, “nectar from flowers tastes just like honey.”“Yum! Yum!” said Bradshaw and Jase, “We like honey.”

Mrs Gresham pushed a green button and woosh we were back at school.

“We loved learning about ants and seeing the Queen ant,” said Frances and Edie-Rae.

“We think flying and tasting the flower’s nectar was the best, when we were a butterfly,” said Bradshaw and Jase.

“I hope we do this again one day,” said Matthew.
