How to Create Your Future in 6 Days? Are you a victim or a martyr? Do you feel dissatisfied with what you are doing? Do you feel stuck where you do not wish to be, not knowing how to get out, feeling helpless? You are not alone. I have come across many who felt this way in my journey as a corporate leader, spiritual healer and coach. Truth to be told, I have been in that space myself. At first, you feel you are a victim. You are uncomfortable, frustrated, angry, and you want out. You live a Ground Hog’s Day life hoping you would wake up differently tomorrow. You do occasionally receive the call to break free that Campbell talks about in Hero’s Journey . Inertia and insecurity hold you back from heeding that call and setting out on that journey to fulfillment. Over time, you give up trying. From victims we turn into martyrs. We accept the slavery, surrender to it and often celebrate it, when challenged, a kind of Stockholm syndrome. Journey, not the destination What would you rather be? Obsessed, stressed, running on the same spot, enslaved to doing what you dislike, or being joyful, able to do what you want and where you wish to go. Perceived fulfillment of material goals keeps us chained despite lack of emotional fulfillment. Goals do not fulfill as we believe them to. When we reach a goal, we don’t stop, we move to another. Destinations are never ending, milestones in a journey. What is important, and rarely realized, is that it is not the goal, but the joy in the journey that fuels us in life. The simple truth is that we have little control over goals and destination, but have all the control on whether we enjoy the process and journey. We can change the destination if we do not like the journey. Inability to exercise this choice makes us victims and martyrs. In my personal interaction with over 10,000 people in 15 years, I estimate that one third are in martyrdom. They are mostly over 40, and in countries like India, a larger percentage seems to be women. In every case I know the destination was perceived security making the journey miserable. Good news is that the millennial generation fights against being victims or martyrs. I do see younger people fighting against the yoke of establishment more often that my own generation did. They would rather be heroes who risk taking a fulfilling journey rather than the security of being in the misery of slavery. Good news is that you have not slipped into martyrdom yet even though you may feel stuck. You still have hope. You can create or recreate your future.

You can be the hero. Let me reframe Seligman’s ‘Learned Optimism’ through processes I have used successfully. Sweet Success Spot Very few work life situations fulfill us completely. Life is a mix of ups and downs. Some work life situations suck completely. You are then at the bottom of Maslow’s hierarchy at the survival and safety need states. You need to get out before depression swallows you. You must move into action to create your own fulfilling future.

• Through your life, even in the midst of the unfulfilling drudgery you experience moments of excitement and optimism. These are your joyful moments. They indicate your life purpose even though you may not think of it as a driving passion. Plot these over your life.

• You have unique strengths that have helped you not merely survive but succeed. Acknowledge them.

• A combination of joyful moments and strengths lead to opportunities of an adventurous journey into the unknown. Develop as many as you can think of.

• Prioritize these new opportunities into one or two to explore and look at what resources you need to support them.

• These form your Sweet Success Spots that will be fulfilling and will launch you into to the Hero’s Journey breaking away from drudgery of your current existence.

Mindless Journey to a new Future I have worked with more than 10,000 clients in the last 15 years using a Zen No Mind approach I term Mindlessness, to help them build on this foundation of Sweet Success Spot to create a new future. Move through these guided processes to a new future.

• Cleansing conditioned disempowered memories of the past through a safe mindless meditation process.

• Reframing the current situation to create a longer term 65 Back vision • Moving to near term Intent using a modified GROW model. • Anchor the Intent with a mindless visualization process to develop an

integrated work life plan. • Finally, brand yourself to be a successful Hero
