One of the greatest rewards of teaching is hearing

from students after they graduate when they have

achieved success in work or in their personal lives

because of something they learned from our work

together.”

Ø Professor Abigail Keegan Petree College of Arts & Sciences

Students who have graduated come back to

me years later and thank me for helping them

understand the ‘language’ of economics. I really

enjoy having established close friendships with

many of my former students.”

YOU CAN

S T U D Y A B R O A DI studied abroad for a semester in Klagenfurt, Austria. I had

never studied German until I chose to go abroad, and now

I’m able to communicate in a second language! I visited

Venice on a weekend trip away from Aplen-Adria University,

where I studied. I was involved in the American Studies

Department and had the opportunity to learn American

politics and literature from a European point of view.”

Ø Angelina Stancampiano Senior, Biomedical Science German Minor

roles for successful careers and

independent lives. While in

Shanghai I was able to improve my

Chinese and make lifelong friends,

great business connections,

and a home away from home. It

was truly the best decision I’ve

ever made; I was even offered a

permanent job at LPfilms! Going

abroad didn’t just open my eyes

to the opportunities in Shanghai,

but opened my mind and heart

to the rest of the world, showing

me that anything is attainable with

hard work, perseverance, and

a little bit of luck. With this new

obsession for culture, knowledge,

and connections, I hope to study

abroad and achieve my master’s

in London, England. I know I

can’t just stop here when there

are so many opportunities and

unforgettable experiences ahead

just waiting for me to reach out

I entered Oklahoma City University

as a first generation college

student working three jobs

and going to school full time to

obtain an acting degree with a

Chinese minor. This summer I

worked in Shanghai, China, for

a film company called LPfilms

(also known as Lost Pensivos

Films). I worked alongside many

international film crews during

my summer abroad and was even

able to take part in negotiations

with BBC, Food Network, Travel

Channel and Discovery Channel

for a new up and coming TV show

called China Eats. I also worked

on editing, copy, and creative

input as a director in many of

the companies’ projects. One

of these was Ladies Night, a

documentary about a new breed

of Shanghai women who are

trading stereotypical housewife

and grab them. All these great

things began for me because of

Oklahoma City University’s desire

for their students to succeed.

Mary Benner, in the Study Abroad

Office, helped me through my little

mental meltdowns about funding

my studies abroad, and the Gilman

Scholarship allowed me to have

such a life-changing experience. I

am very grateful for all the people

at OCU who really care about

helping students get the most out

of their education. I am a prime

example of that—it doesn’t matter

where you came from or how you

grew up; it’s where you’re going

and the experiences you gather

along the way.”

Ø Mariah Nonnemacher Senior, Acting Chinese Minor
