A Message from our Pastor, Rev. Joseph T. Szolack

Dear Friends in Christ,

This weekend we here about the indissolubility of a true marriage. It is great to see a married couple attend Holy Mass together. There was a British study that said when a couple shares the same faith, a marriage is given even more opportunity for success. In our Catholic faith, we see marriage as sacrament; an opportunity to grow in grace. In other words, marriage can help us get to heaven. Spiritual qualities are important when a couples enters into a marital covenant. In the Code of Canon Law, Canon 1055 says that “this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.” One may attracted physically, emotionally and through children, but the couple that does not have God in their relationship cannot receive the grace of a sacrament. A sacrament is to make a person holy and put one in communion with Almighty God. It is ideal that a couple bother practice their faith. A couple that prays together and is aware of the spiritual side of their relationship will certainly receive powerful graces and they will be more capable of living out the vows that they make on their wedding day. This Monday, we will begin our Perpetual Novena in Honor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM. The Novena will begin at 7:00 PM with Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament. It would be great to see couples comes and pray next to one another. We all have so many things to pray for and that is the purpose of a novena. It is based on the nine days awaiting the Descent of the Holy Spirit after Our Lord ascended into Heaven. The number nine gives us a starting and ending point. Pope Saint John Paul II said in his encyclical Redemptoris Mater, “The piety of the Christian people has always very rightly sensed a profound link between devotion to the Blessed Virgin and worship of the Eucharist.” Our novena will have both of these elements. Let us all pray for those preparing for marriage, for those who are married and for those who struggle in a marriage. A marriage in the Church is representative of the love between Christ and His Church. Someone once said, “Marriage is a gift from God to us. The quality of our marriage is a gift from us to Him.” Without prayer, we simply do not have the strength. “Love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13:8).

God bless you,Father Szolack

ITEMS NEEDED: SYRUP and PANCAKE MIX

Our ministry is dedicated to helping those in need all year long. With your help, we provide a wide variety of staple groceries to carry a family (or an individual) through to their next paycheck or until they get back on their feet. Without the generosity of our parishioners, this would be an impossible task. We are truly thankful and so are the dozens of families we help every single week.

Traveling Statue of Mary

Q: Why does a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary go from home to home in some communities?

A: The origin of this custom is the so-called shelter seeking, that is the Holy Family on their way to Bethlehem, seeking a shelter where they could stay for the night, and where Mary could give birth to Jesus. Out of the recollection of this event grew the medieval Frau-en Tragen (carrying of our Lady) in Germany, and later the so-called Posada (house, dwelling, inn) in Hispanic countries. The custom is a ‘spiritual compensation’ for the innkeeper’s refusal to invite the Holy Family into his Inn.

Altar and Rosary provides a Traveling Mary Statue to parishioners and members of our society who wish to have it in their homes for special intentions, novenas and prayers to the Blessed Moth-er. Please contact Jackie Smith @856-745-8467 if you would like to request the statue which includes a book and DVD about Our Lady of Fatima.

Amen.
