*Communion is offered on 2nd & 4th Sundays.*

ST. PAUL’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: Our Lord Jesus graciously shares with us His body and blood to forgive our sins, assure us of salvation, strengthen our faith, and unite us as members of His church. We believe:

That we are sinful human beings in need of forgiveness;

That the Lord’s Body and Blood are truly present in the bread and wine which He offers us;

That through the sacrament we are forgiven of our sins;

and strengthened to live as God’s people. If you share our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, we invite you to join us at His table. If you do not wish to take communion, you are invited to cross your arms over your chest and re-ceive a blessing from the Pastor. If you have any questions, please consult the Pastor or a Lay Minister.

COME AS YOU ARE Welcome to St. Paul Lutheran Church! We are a community of believers from all walks of life, who face all kinds of daily struggles and challenges. We don’t have all the answers, but we know the One who does. We don’t always get things right, but by God’s grace we follow the One who never sinned. We are not perfect people, just forgiven people, and you’ll fit in just as you are! You don’t need to bring the perfect clothes or the perfect smile or the perfect family…just yourself, with all your questions or hurts or scars, and let Jesus take it from there!

A Year of Discipleship Throughout the 2019-2020 year at St. Paul, we will take time to focus on what it means to follow Jesus and be faithful to His calling. Following Jesus isn’t always easy. Loving others can be difficult. Being generous with the time, energy, and resources He has given us can be challenging. But, as we seek His Kingdom and obey His Word, we will grow in faith, hope, and peace in the love of Jesus by His Spirit!

Pastoral Visitation Pastor Ernesto Garcia, our Visitation Pastor, is an important part of the Ministry Team at St. Paul. If you or a loved one is admitted to the hospital or a care facility, or is unable to come to church because of an extended illness or other circumstances, please call Pastor Garcia at 956-682-4697 (home) or 956-270-2272 (cell). He will be happy to make arrangements for a pastoral visit.

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Grant #7 — Restoring Hope for Detroit Children and Families Camp Restore Detroit— $100,000 Detroit has experienced economic disaster, with nearly 60 percent of its children living in poverty, the highest rate in the country. Camp Restore Detroit provides a place for children and adults of the city’s devastated Ninth Precinct to learn about God’s love as they partici-pate in art, theatre, music classes, and receive home-work help. Adults are offered parenting, finance, and resumé-building classes. Remember Detroit by remem-bering your mites for this LWML grant! For more information, go to http://www.lwml.org/2019-2021-mission-grant-7.

Altar Guild Join Now The Altar Guild is looking for a few new people to join them. What does the Altar Guild do? They prepare Holy Communion and care for the altar, just to name a few things. If you are looking for a way to serve the Lord at St. Paul, the Altar Guild might be for you. Please call the office 956-682-2345 during the week if interested.

Take Home Projects | Now We are looking for people to help us cut up ribbon that will be used in worship and Faith @ Home boxes during Lent. Please contact Ms. Jessica or DCE Inese for more information.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

KNOW

Fire Pit | Feb 16 “FirePit: The Happening” will meet Sunday, February 16 at 7:00pm at the home of Danny Hempel (601 Camellia, McAllen). The event is open to all men: members and non-members alike! Come enjoy some fellowship and good food! (Bring your beverage of choice, and a side dish if you wish; the main course will be provided!) Don’t forget your camp chair!

Play in the Park | Feb 22 Join us for Play in the Park at Bill Schupp Park (1300 Zinnia, McAllen) on February 22nd from 10 – 11:30 am! Ages 0-Kinder (and their families) are encouraged to gather and enjoy spending time together, a kid-friendly snack, and coffee for parents! If you have questions, please contact Skye at (409) 656-5752!

All Ages Pre-Lent Event | Feb 23 Have you heard (or said!) any of these statements recently: “I never see people that go to the other service times.” “I wish I knew more people at church.” “I want my children to connect with older believers.” “I want to connect with younger believers and help them learn about Jesus.”

Good news! On February 23rd, you can start to address those concerns! Worshipers of ALL AGES are invited to join us for the “All Ages Pre-Lent Event,” the last Sunday before Lent begins, as we kick off the Lenten season together. We will meet at 9:15am in the Gym on February 23rd for breakfast, fellowship, FAITH5, and activities that help us think about what it means to grow in your faith when God leads you through a time of wilderness. When the “wonder of the child” and the “wisdom of the elder” come together, the Holy Spirit can do surprising things for both people! This event is in place of the normal 9:30am Bible Study that day.

Ash Wednesday | Feb 26 Please join us for Ash Wednesday worship on February 26 at 8:15am or 7pm. A fish fry dinner will be served at 6pm.

Follow-Up Voter’s Meeting | March 8 We had a good attendance for our January Voter’s Meeting. We shared ministry updates and reports, and we heard from our architect and Building Committee. You can find the information at: https://stpaulmcallen.org/building/. We have scheduled a follow-up Voter’s Meeting for March 8, 2020. Please plan to attend!! Winter Texans and regular guests are also welcome to attend, give feedback, and ask questions.

GROW
