Letter from the President Dena Stebbins DeCamp

I know everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather. Our winter residents are returning, the hot summer days are turning into cooler nights and milder days and we are all spending more time outdoors. I love this time of year!

On October 17, we will have a booth in Munn Park for the Lake Mirror Classic Car Show. Volunteers are welcome, let me know if you’d like to help. We will be doing Voter Registration and selling t shirts and car magnets. Please come out and enjoy the day with us. October 24 will be the first meeting of the Republican Hispanic Polk County Club, President is our friend Dr. Pedro Almazan. The event is from 10-12 at Cleveland Heights Golf Club. This new club will be under the umbrella of the Polk Co. REC.

I am truly excited to tell you that our speaker this month is the Executive Director of Florida House, Bart Hudson. Florida House is our state embassy in Washington D.C. Mr. Hudson is a

wonderful speaker, he has some wonderful stories to tell about visitors to Florida House, including Vice President and Mrs. Dick Cheney and the Florida Gators. He is very entertaining as he shares many amusing stories. We would like to have a large turnout for this event. Mr. Hudson will be giving us a background of Florida House and how important it is for all Floridians. Please don’t miss this.

In addition to our speaker, our nominating Committee will be announcing the slate of officers for 2010-2012 and Michelle Robare is taking reservations for the Christmas Gala at the Lakeland Yacht Club on December 8. And don’t forget about the Christmas Ornaments, if you are interested in ordering call Ann Suden.

I am working with Michael Dunn to organize a self defense class which would include a concealed weapons permit training for any of our members that are interested. If you are interested in this type of class, please contact me. At this time we do not have all the details, but I will have the information by the time we have our luncheon.

See you all soon. Dena, President

The Visioning Process Determining our Impact on the Future

We Started with These...

What is Visioning? Visioning is a process by which an organization defines the future that it wants. Through maximum involvement of its members, the group identifies more clearly its cause, purpose and common core values.

Visioning... Identifies Assets rather than needs Assesses options for time and money manage-ment according to shared purposes and val-ues Stresses early and continuous involvement in the process by all levels of membership. Can act as a stand alone process or used in a more comprehensive planning process.

The exercise of Visioning alone can bring an organiza-tion back together, allowing the membership to recog-nize shared values and purposes, not

only building concensus, but serving as a re-focusing on the goals of the group. A participatory visioning process creates a sense of ownership in members, making the coming to fruition over a period of time the common goals more inclusive, powerful, and longer lasting.

A Vision Statement... Positive, Present tense language Qualities that provide the reader with a feel-ing for the groups unique character Language that includes the diversity of mem-bership Depicting the highest standards of excellence and achievement Focus on people and quality of life A stated time period May address various visions that the group wants to acknowledge – different objectives and goals.
