Parents welcome. Dear Parents, We have had two orientation sessions with our Kinder 2019 families and our little ones have settled in very quickly to the school routine. We look forward to our Parent Information Session this evening at 7.00pm as we outline procedures for entry into school in 2019. At our final orientation session next week we will have a special welcoming liturgy for parents and information from Lowes regarding the uniforms, information about ordering from the canteen and a short Maths presentation from Mrs Sinclair. International Teachers Day Lunch We were very fortunate to enjoy a lovely lunch provided by the Year 4 parents for International Teachers Day yesterday. A special thank you to everyone who provided a plate for us to enjoy and to the parents who set up our staffroom for this lunch. Mission Mass Last week our Year 6 students joined with other students from our Diocesan schools to celebrate the annual Mission Mass in the cathedral. Representatives from Catholic Mission addressed the students and encouraged them to pray for those in need, to spread the word about those living in hardship and to fundraise. It was wonderful to be part of this special Mass and to present a cheque for $280.00 to Catholic Mission. Year 2 Parish/School Mass Thank you to the many Year 2 families who came to our Parish/School Mass last weekend. It was a wonderful turnout with a beautiful Mass as the thunderstorm raged around us. Many thanks to choir members who also assisted and to Sr Katherine, Miss Bainy, Mrs Sinclair, Mrs le Patourel and of course Fr Peter. End of Year Concert 2018 Plans are underway for our 2018 End of Year Concert as we pick up on the 120 Year theme and highlight some of the hits through these years. All children will be involved in grade items with performances also from the Band and Choir. The concert will be in TLOCC on St Leos side on the big stage and will commence at 7.00pm on Wednesday 21 November. To ensure we have enough seating we will ask you to complete a link indicating how many people will be coming. Toddlers need a seat. A link for booking will be emailed home to families tomorrow. Classes for 2019 At the end of each year we organise new class groupings for the next year. This process will take place during November. These groupings and lists are organised by the present class teachers, in consultation with the support staff, who know the children well. The aim, though challenging, is to collate balanced classes of peers who will have a positive and enriching influence on your childs learning for the 2019 school year. When forming classes, we take a lot of time to ensure we have the best possible combinations of children, providing a balance of educational needs and a balance of friendship groups. If, however, your child has any needs different from others in the class that we may not be aware of, or if you have significant information about your child that would assist us, now is the time to let us know in writing no later than Friday 9 November. Please note a new letter needs to be written each year as childrens relationships etc. continually change. Of course, this is not an exercise in the selection of teachers whose grades are yet to be determined. St Leos College Orientation Day - Year 7, 2019/ Friday 9 November All new students for Year 7, 2019 are invited to the Orientation Day. Students are to wear their current school uniforms and provide their own lunch and morning tea. Students will need to bring pens, lead pencils and an eraser. OLOR staff will walk students offered a place at St Leos to TLOCC at 9.20am and collect them at 2.00pm for a return to OLOR.

Congratulations Congratulations to Oliver Tysoe, a past OLOR student who has been announced as School Captain of St Pius College for 2019 Thank you to those who have spoken to me or sent cards on the recent death of my mother during the holidays. Your kindness is most appreciated during this very difficult time for me and my family. Special thanks to the school community for the lovely flower arrangement sent on your behalf. Mum attended our 120 year celebrations on Friday 21st and loved hearing the students sing at mass and listening to the Band and Choir performances. She chatted to a number of the teachers that day and mentioned to me how impressed she was with the students who engaged in conversation with her outside the cathedral. Mum had been a healthy, independent 87 year old who still drove, played bridge and mahjong, was part of Probus and Bookclub, was a lector and a communion minister at her parish. Her funeral was a wonderful celebration of her deep spirituality. She was a big part of our family and had wonderful relationships with each of her seven grandchildren. We will miss her enormously. God bless you and your family. Jacinta Crowe - Principal

WHERE WILL YOU BE IN 2019? As we prepare the staffing and classes for next year, can you please let the school office know if you are planning on leaving OLOR at the end of the year.

Candela Mission Peru

Mrs Mary Rajca will visit on Monday October 29thh to speak to the students at assembly about the work of the

Sisters of Mercy in the shanty town of Candela in Lima Peru.

The mission supports women through a programme that teaches them to make beautiful handicrafts. The pro-

ceeds from the sale of these crafts give the women an income so they can provide for their families.

There will be a sale of the beautiful handicrafts that the women have made during Week 3 from Tuesday October

30 to and inclusive of Friday November 2 . A perfect time to start the Christmas shopping!

All funds raised go back to the women who have made the goods. This money is used by the women to buy basic

necessities for their families. Much has been done over the past few years to improve the lives of these women

and their families.

Your support of the mission is greatly appreciated.
