ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Grandparents’ Day is Friday, February 10th

: 1) This event is for Grandparents or a Special Friend, and we ask that parents do not attend. This is partly due to limited space and to keep the day as a special memory for the grandchild(ren) and grandparents. *We do need 4-5 more parent volunteers for the day: email [email protected] if you are able to help. *4th grade will be in charge of Mass that day at 10:50 and all are welcome to attend. 2) Please let grandparent's know they can park in the Walnut lot, and the event begins in the Parish Hall. 3). It is not too late to RSVP: [email protected] *Please make sure your child has made a nametag for their grandparent(s). They will be giving the nametags to their grandparent, and it would be sad for someone not to have one. Make sure your student's name/grade is on the nametag somewhere. 4) We want this to be a fun day for all, so if your child does not have a grandparent or special friend attending, please consider joining a friend or emailing your teacher to help get matched up. Camp Pendola Essay Contest: Camp Pendola invites all 4th - 8th grade students to Celebrate God's Creation by entering the Summer 2017 Camp Pendola Essay Contest. Using the quote from Pope Francis' Encyclical Laudato Si' , 228, write a 500-word essay about where you have experienced God in nature. All entries are due by February 8. Family Promise: At any given time, there are over 3,000 homeless living on our streets and in our communities. The fastest growing segment of that population is families. 300 children are homeless every day in Sacramento County. In the 12 years of their existence, Family Promise has graduated 221 families (that's 385 adults and 435 children) from homelessness into their own homes. Some are in their own their homes. 16 have earned college degrees and 6 high school students are attending college with full scholarships. On February 11th and 12

th, OLA will have a second

collection for Family Promise, Sacramento. In addition, please see the attached flyer regarding their next fundraising event. Thank you in advance for keeping the Family Promise volunteers and homeless families in your prayers! Christian Meditation Group: In an age of rush and noise, it is essential that we find time to be still and quiet. “Be still and know that I am God,” says the Psalmist. In this prayer of silence called Christian Meditation, we find God who dwells in our own heart. And, in finding Him, we find our own selves and are renewed. We regularly meet Mondays at 7:30pm in our School Library. Please call Fran at 488-4229 for more information. OLA Parish Vocations Cross program: Please see the attached flyer for detailed information.

Valentine

Spirit Day!!!

Wear red, pink, white,

and purple on Tuesday,

February 14th!

Dear OLA Parents,

Our Lady of the Assumption’s 8th grade class is raising money to cover the cost of a class trip to

Washington, D.C., and we need your help. We are in need of raffle and silent auction items for OLA’s 5th

Annual Crab Feed that takes place on February 25, 2017. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to

offset the travel expenses for our 8th grade students. We ask that you check around your home for any

new items that could be donated for this event. For example, candles, DVD’s, bath & beauty products,

books, games, and toys. Perhaps it is time to donate that gift card that has been in your wallet for too long.

Ask your neighbors or relatives if they have any items that they would like to donate. Regifting is

acceptable, and we will keep it a secret! If you would like to ask for a donation from a restaurant or

salon/spa that you frequent, use the solicitation letter attached to the brown bag we sent home last week.

All donations can be placed in the bag and returned to the OLA School Office at your earliest convenience.

As 8th grade parents, having been here for 9 years, we know how much is asked of the OLA community and

will be appreciative of any donation. Please know that this is voluntary, but we would love your

participation.

The Crab Feed is a fun event drawing many parishioners and school families alike. Get a group and fill a

table or come alone and meet new friends. Tickets are going fast, so stop by the school office and buy your

tickets today. Tickets are $55 per person, for all you can eat.

Thank you in advance for your support of OLA’s 8th graders. Hope to see you on the 25th.

Parish Vocations Cross Program

OLA has started a new Parish Vocations Cross program. Studies have shown across the country

that parishes that have a firm commitment to praying for vocations see an increase of those

who are interested in in the priesthood and religious life. Each week, one family takes home the

Vocations Cross, presented to them at Mass, and commits to praying for an increase of

vocations to the priesthood and religious life, especially from within our own diocese. At the

end of the week, the cross is returned to the parish for a new family to take it home. We need

at least 50 families to sign up for this program in order for it to be sustainable. Your help

would be greatly appreciated and would only require a minimal commitment on the week you

are assigned.

If you would like to participate, please complete the form below, and send it to the parish or

school office. For more information, please contact Dean Marshall at seminarian@olaparish,net

or (916) 481-5168 x207.
