A Message from Patrick Russell:

Happy Easter! It is crazy to think that it has been almost two years since I was assigned at Our Lady of Lourdes as a seminarian. These past two years have been filled with many blessings. Perhaps the biggest concrete blessing is my upcoming ordina-tion to be a Transitional Deacon for the Archdio-cese of St. Louis. The year I spent with you con-tinues to bear fruit today. I would not be approach-ing ordination if it were not for all of you. Since you all have played such a significant role in my journey, it is only right that we get to celebrate and share in the joy together. I invite you all to two events. My actual ordination will take place on Saturday, May 5th, 2018 at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis at 10am. This event is open to the public and you all are invited. If you were interest-ed in an event a little closer to home then I invite you to attend that 10am Mass on Sunday, May 6th at Our Lady of Lourdes. Fr. Jim has graciously allowed me to give my first official homily as a Deacon to this parish family. There is a small re-ception after each of these events. You all mean so much to me and I want to celebrate this exciting event with all of you. Please know of my prayers for each and every one of you; and I ask for your prayers for this sinner turned servant. God bless!

Dear Parishioners,

A couple of months ago I put out a letter in the bulle-tin and a made an announcement at all masses that the pastors in the area have put together a committee to take a look at our area regarding our parishes and schools in order to make recommendations as to how we can move into the future as a Church of mission in our area. After having met for a couple of months we have information we would like to share. Below is an invitation from our committee to a town hall meeting. I would encourage everyone to attend one of these meetings (ours is on May 1st) if it is at all possi-ble.

Have a blessed week,

Fr. Jim Theby

Washington Area Steering Committee Town Hall

Meeting Invitation

In early February, the pastors of the parishes in the Washington area announced that they had formed a Steering Committee made up of parishioners from each of the parishes. The pastors charged this commit-tee with studying past and present realities and with developing recommendations as to how we, as Catho-lics in and around the Washington area, might contin-ue to provide for the evangelization and formational needs of our parish families and, thus, remain true to our collective mission of proclaiming the Gospel mes-sage of Jesus Christ to all parishioners.

Over the past several weeks, this committee has been diligently gathering and studying facts and infor-mation about our parishes and schools, analyzing trends within the Washington area and researching recent collaborative efforts among parishes and schools throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Eventually, the committee will begin exploring op-tions for possible collaboration among our parishes and schools.

The pastors have further requested that the Steering Committee keep the parish and school communities informed of its progress and to reach out to parishion-ers, parents and teachers for advice and direction. The Steering Committee is now prepared to share the in-formation and research they have gathered to date and to seek input from the members of our parish and school communities.

To do this, the Steering Committee has scheduled sev-eral Town Hall Meetings at a number of our Washing-ton area parishes. Below you will find the dates, times and locations of these meetings. The Steering Commit-tee is inviting and encouraging parishioners, parents and teachers to attend any of these sessions.

Word of Life - April 15

“A model of care has been developed specifically for families whose infant is likely to die before or after birth. Often called ‘perinatal hospice,’ it's a way of caring for both the baby and the baby's family before, as well as after, birth.”

St. Anselm Bishop and Doctor of the

Church c. 1033 - 1109 Feast Day—April 21

This scholarly Italian youth wanted to become a monk, but his father’s disapproval pushed him to a secular life that he later described as dissipat-ed. After his mother died, he moved to France to continue studies with her family. In 1060 he joined the Bene-

dictines at Bec in Normandy, and in 1078 was elected abbot, which increasingly involved him in civil and church affairs in France and England. In 1093 he be-came archbishop of Canterbury, a post held until his death. During his tenure, Canterbury became Eng-land’s primatial see, but Anselm was twice exiled over conflicts with English monarchs. He penned a system-atic study of Christian beliefs and many letters to his beloved monks. He is a Doctor of the Church. Copyright © 2018, Catholic News Service–United States Confer-
