This week was Pentecost Sunday and this feast will be our focus for the next couple of weeks.

What do you already know about Pentecost?

Make a poster / booklet / short film to show what you already know and can remember about Pentecost.

Reading There is still an expectation that children will read daily and have a signed signature in their diary. This is a great

opportunity to read some good books – us adults certainly will be! Complete the tasks below during the week:

• Comprehension text: complete the comprehension texts at the end of the pack.

• Read a chapter a day. As you read the chapter, answer the following questions linked to inferring

(understanding) the text.

- how a character feels

- why a character feels a particular way

- why a character acts/behaves in a certain way (motives)

- why a character says certain things (motives)

- why a character says things in a certain way (motives)

- why a character does things in a certain way (motives)

- what a character thinks

- why a character thinks/believes/expects (etc) certain things the text to support your opinion.




English Writing:

Dear detective,

I hope this letter finds you well. As you are aware, there has been a sharp increase in the number of missing

cats in London and Kent. At first glance, it seemed we were just getting random reports and calls. However,

after careful examination we have concluded that people are calling everyday between 5pm and 10pm. We

need this case solved because these pets are very dear to families across London and Kent and we need to

ensure that they are returned safely. We have managed to collect some evidence that you may use as clues in

your investigation.

We will need you to collect evidence as you work on this case. Could you keep a diary entry for each day you

work on this mystery? Hopefully by the end of this week you would’ve written a diary report of how you

cracked this feline fiasco!

Boxes of catnip and wooden rafts have been found near the River Medway. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that

these have been dumped here. The River Medway leads into the Thames Estuary – I wonder if there’s a link

there?

A cat brush spotted near Buckingham palace and a flute made from bamboo.




Lastly, we have uncovered eggs, chicken and beef chunks around litter bins.

Oracy: Exploratory Talk Challenge 3

Have a discussion about these talking points and questions, thought up by OLOL children:

So that there is a lot to talk about, there are always rather a lot of Talking Points. Some groups become so involved

that they never get to the end of the list – and this is good! High quality talk always takes time.

Top Tips:

Use your sentence starters to build, challenge (with respect), clarify and probe each other’s ideas to come to a

shared agreement. Remember, if you cannot agree, this is not a bad thing! Remember to reflect on it positively. ‘We

found it hard to agree about....’

Science (Evolution and Inheritance):

Most environments, however extreme, have some form of life in them – living things that have evolved to survive

in those conditions against the odds. We are going to explore extreme survival and the adaptations that enable

living things to thrive in such conditions.
