May 29, 2016 • The Most Holy Body And Blood Of Christ Sunday 3

A Note From The Pastor…

This Sunday we

celebrate The

Solemnity of The Most

Holy Body and Blood

of Christ, some"mes

referred to by the

La"n Corpus Chris!.

On this day, we

celebrate the

Ins"tu"on of the Sacrament of the Eucharist, as well as our

belief in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

This solemnity is usually celebrated on the Thursday a&er Trinity Sunday, which

we celebrated last Sunday. But in the United States, as in some other countries,

Corpus Chris! is transferred to the following Sunday, the Sunday a&er Trinity Sunday.

It might seem strange to celebrate the Ins"tu"on of the Eucharist as we recall and

celebrate just that on Holy Thursday. However, on Holy Thursday the mood is quite

different: there’s a sense of sadness as Jesus is also about to be arrested, and then

crucified the next day. Our thoughts are focused on His coming Passion and Death.

In addi"on, Holy Thursday also celebrates the Ins"tu"on of the Priesthood. So, in

some sense, Corpus Chris! is more a focused, proper celebra"on of the Ins"tu"on of

the Eucharist, and our belief in Jesus’ Real Presence.

This Sunday Evening we will have a Holy Hour at 7PM celebra"ng Corpus Chris!.

All are invited to a#end.

Last Saturday was the Our Lady of Humility Bowling League’s last ou"ng for the

academic year. The League will begin again in the Fall. Please consider joining the

League, as it is a good opportunity to meet great people from our School and Parish,

and have some fun in a relaxed atmosphere.

This Monday we celebrate Memorial Day: It’s a day when we should thank God

for the men and women who have handed over their lives, so that we might have

freedom. May God grant eternal rest to them, and provide comfort to families

mourning the loss of a loved one who served our country.

God Bless,

Fr. Paul

Join Us To

Celebrate

Our New

Deacon

Joseph

Gregory Krame

Joseph Gregory Krame, a

long-"me parishioner at Our Lady

of Humility, is scheduled to be

ordained to the Order of Deacon

next Saturday, June 4th, at the

Holy Name Cathedral by

Archbishop Blase J. Cupich.

Greg Krame will serve his first

Mass as a Deacon at Our Lady of

Humility on Sunday, June 5th, at

11AM. Let’s Congratulate

soon-to-be Deacon Krame at a

Recep"on next Sunday, June 5th,

a&er the 11AM Mass in the

Parish Center. Everyone is

welcomed to a#end this joyous

event.

Ordina!on To Order Of Deacon Congratula"ons to Greg Krame! Next

Saturday, June 4th, Archbishop Blase J.

Cupich will ordain him to the Order of

Deacon at the Holy Name Cathedral in

Chicago. He will be one of 13 men to be

ordained as Deacons. Greg has

journeyed through four years of

prepara"on for this day, a#ending

academic classes, forma"on programs,

engaging in extensive theological

reflec"on sessions, retreats, regular

Spiritual Direc"on, as well as being

involved in many liturgical prac"ces, and

pastoral field educa"on experiences,

including an eleven-month internship.

Ordina"ons to the (permanent) Diaconate in the Archdiocese of Chicago

have taken place since 1972. There are presently nearly 500 ac"ve Deacons

in the Archdiocese, as well as 54 men currently in forma"on at the Ins"tute

for Diaconal Studies, with a new cohort beginning in the Fall. The presence

of Deacons serving in the Archdiocese is widespread, yet s"ll a frequently

asked ques"on is, “What or who is a Deacon?”.

The Diaconate is first and foremost completely about service; Diaconal

Ministry has its roots in the Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 6. The Apostles

laid hands on “...seven reputable men, filled with the Holy Spirit and

wisdom…” to care for widows, and administer the daily distribu"on of food

in the early Chris"an community.

Thus from the earliest days of the Church, Deacons were involved in

service to the Bishop as administrators, and caring for the poor (spiritually,

emo"onally, physically), the alienated, and those who, for various reasons,

find themselves on the fringes of society. Therefore, Deacons also minister

in hospitals, prisons, shelters, soup kitchens, and within the various

ministries coordinated through organiza"ons such as Catholic Chari"es and

the St. Vincent DePaul Society, modeling the call of diakonia that belongs to

all the bap"zed to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Since most Deacons work full-"me outside the Church, Deacons in their

workplace (and in the world), are sacramental signs and icons of Christ the

Servant visible in the community.

Deacons also perform liturgical func"ons such as assis"ng Bishops and

Priests at Mass, and in the local Parish or Diocese, celebra"ng bap"sms,

presiding at wedding ceremonies, wakes, and funeral services.

Please keep in your prayers Greg Krame, all candidates who will be

ordained, their wives and families, and all those in forma"on, that they

might con"nue to answer God’s call in their lives.

Enrollment For Preschool And

As a Catholic School in the

Archdiocese of Chicago, Our Lady of

Humility School takes pride in

providing an educa"onal choice for

families who are looking for a small

Catholic School where children are

treated like family, and an emphasis is

placed on community. For the past

fi&y-six years, families have enrolled

their children at our School because

they recognize the difference the right

school makes in the lives of their

children. While much has changed

since 1958, one thing that hasn’t

changed is the care and compassion

we have for our students, and our

commitment to educa"ng the “whole

child”. While academics are

rigorously emphasized, equally

important is the social, spiritual,

physical, and moral development of

each child. Our teachers, all of whom

are state cer"fied, and highly

educated, u"lize a research based

curriculum and best prac"ces to

maximize the talents of each child.

Accredited by the Archdiocese of

Chicago, and recognized by the State

of Illinois, we embrace the changes of

children to appreciate a faith tradi"on

Archbishop Blase J. Cupich,

the Auxiliary Bishops, and

Archdiocesan Priests will

Monday, May 30th. These Masses are in conjunc"on with the na"onal

developed by the Catholic Cemetery Conference, to honor men and women of

the armed forces who died while serving, as well as ac"ve military and

forward for a special blessing followed by the playing of Taps.

Archbishop Cupich will celebrate a Memorial Day Field Mass at Resurrec"on

Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleums, 7201 Archer Avenue in Jus"ce, at

10:30AM. Immediately following the Mass, the Archbishop will bless a 20 foot

tall bronze statue of St. Pope John Paul II that is placed on a six foot – ten inch

tall American black granite base. The statue was commissioned by the

Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Chicago in 2013, and designed by

Teresa Clark of Clark Design.
