Our Lady of Hope This Week

ALLELUIA! JESUS CHRIST, OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, HAS RISEN—LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD

Today, and for the next fifty days, we will celebrate and rejoice in the triumph of Christ over the power of death. It is our primary and foundational Chris-tian feast. Through it, the course of human history is changed forever as Christ has, in the words of the Exsultet, broken “the prison-bars of death and rose victorious from the underworld.”

2017 FAITH Catholic-Publishing and Communications

LITURGY OF THE WORD

The first reading tells of how Peter, after encoun-tering the risen Lord Jesus and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, is enabled to boldly preach the Gospel message. The second reading reminds us that our lives can be transformed by opening our-selves to the power of the risen Lord Jesus. The Gospel recounts Mary of Magdala going to the tomb of Jesus only to find it empty.

2017 FAITH Catholic-Publishing and Communications

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR EASTER SUN-DAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD

Very early in the morning after the Sabbath, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body with precious oils. The reward for this good and conscientious steward was to be the first to know that Jesus had been raised from the dead. Alleluia!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR

St. Augustine once said: “our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” (Confessions, I,1) He made this statement based on his own irrepressi-ble longings and unspeakable yearnings for peace and for meaning in his life. What he could not find on his own—

and he searched far and wide—he found in some-one far greater than himself: the person of Christ. May this Easter afford each of you the opportunity to find peace, hope, promise and love in the risen Lord!

VIRTUS TRAINING-PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!

Virtus is a program that gives us a specific plan in identifying and preventing child sexual abuse. The training is required of all diocesan personnel and volunteers in all parishes.

If you are a volunteer and still need to fulfill this obligation check the Long Island Catholic or the Diocesan website, www.drvc.org for training ses-sions available in the area. Please register for the class online or stop in the Church office.

BAPTISM PREPARATION CLASSES

The class for Baptism will be held every other month on the last Sunday of the month at 11am in the lower church. The next class scheduled is May 21.
