Easter Flower Donations

It is that time of year to begin planning for our Easter celebrations. The Arts and Environment Committee is hard at work to create another wonderful place for worship and prayer and your donations can help with this effort. Envelopes are in the pews. You can also make a donation at our parish website. Donations in honor or in memory of a loved one are also possible. Thank you for your generosity!

Prayer Cards For The Elect

Thank you for keeping our Elect in your prayers during this season of Lent. Now is the time to turn in your personalized cards or notes for our Elect that will be distributed to them on Holy Saturday. You can drop off your cards in the baskets located at the place of prayer in the church or at the Pastoral Center (where parish offices are). They need to be turned in no later than Holy Thursday evening. Information, Helen Oesterle 206-935-0358.

Journey Of The Elect

Our Elect are now entering their final week of preparation for the Easter Vigil, where they will be baptized, confirmed and receive Eucharist for the first time as one with us in the faith. They will participate with us in our Holy Week liturgies, being dismissed for the last time on Holy Thursday evening. They will also participate in a daylong retreat on Holy Saturday in their final preparation rites prior to the celebration of the Vigil of all vigils! You are encouraged to join us at the Easter Vigil to celebrate this most important day of their lives where we, the baptized, will also renew our baptismal promises as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord.

Witnesses To Resurrection: Celebrating The Easter Season

This year, as a parish, we will participate in an online Easter retreat. Each week you will receive, through personal email or on our parish website, reflections from a different Resurrection appearance story. Using meditations, artwork, music, and reflection questions you will be able to dive more deeply into the Easter mystery and share in the Easter joy! Whatever kind of Lent you have had, or haven’t had, promise yourself to give Easter the attention that it deserves. RSVP groups will also be invited to participate, or you can form your own group. Contact Helen to sign up at [email protected].

Questions of the Week

1. When have you “fallen asleep” instead of staying awake to someone's pain?

Outreach Ministry Join The Shelter Meal Delivery Team

Have a couple hours a month to give? Join the St. Martin de Porres food delivery team! Each week, one member of the team picks up food (about 10-20 food trays, wrapped and sealed) from Salty’s and delivers them to St. Martin Homeless Shelter, a short 10 minutes away. This ministry started many years ago by the 50’s Funsters and we want to keep it going. Also needed is someone to pick up trays and return them to Salty’s once a week, Thursday through Saturday. Working with a team provides great flexibility. St. Martin’s, Salty’s, and especially the recipients, appreciate what we as a parish do. To learn more, contact Mary at [email protected].

Encounter Our Neighbors: Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl

We encounter Jesus this week in Jerusalem, a community he knew well. We prayerfully enter our own communities too, encountering those who are hungry and thirsty, and those who need our help. How does our Lenten journey motivate us to serve those we meet in our daily lives? Visit crsricebowl.org for more. Remember to bring your Rice Bowls to Holy Thursday Mass. Please convert coins to cash or checks (made out to “OLG” with “Rice Bowl” in the memo). Our counters thank you!

Volunteer With Holy Rosary’s Women’s Shelter

Did you know that OLG is now participating with Holy Rosary to host a shelter for up to 10 women every Saturday and Sunday night from September to June? With homelessness on the rise, this is a great opportunity to help provide a safe space for women in our community. Men, women, and girls over 15 are all welcome to help. You can serve as a driver or overnight host or provide food for the women. If you’re interested in getting involved, contact Diane at [email protected] or visit the website at https://holyrosaryseattle.org/womens-shelter.

OLG Immigrant Ministry Is Welcoming New Members

Come check out OLG’s Immigrant Ministry as we seek new ways to encounter our immigrant brothers and sisters through education, advocacy and community building. Our next meeting is Thursday, April 18 at 9:30 a.m. in the Pastoral Center. Come learn about the upcoming Pilgrimage, the Youth Migrant Project, supporting a local asylee family, and more! We look forward to seeing you there!

Youth Migrant Project Applications Available Now!

The Youth Migrant Project is back! We’ll be teaming up with St. James and St. Anne’s for a fun and life-changing week, July 21-26. The trip is open to graduating 8th graders (or 14+ years old) through graduating high school seniors. We stay at Immaculate in Sedro-Woolley and serve in a variety of migrant ministries throughout the Skagit Valley, including distributing food and clothing, creating a fiesta for the children in a camp, working in the fields and attending Mass in a camp. In addition to serving, we will learn about migrant life and reflect on our faith in light of these realities. There are two mandatory preparation meetings on June 2 and June 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The cost of the trip is $200 but partial scholar-ships are available. Because there are three parishes participating, space is very limited. If you are interested in attending or have questions, contact Jennifer at 206-935-0358, Ext. 120 or [email protected]. Applications are available in the parish office and online, and are due Sunday, May 12th.

Join Us For The April Community Meal - You are invited to this free, sit-down meal on Sunday, April 28th at 1:00 p.m. in

We are also looking for volunteers to adopt a bed or two to oversee during the growing season. Also, thanks to a recent Rice Bowl Garden Grant, we would like to build a new shed. Caring For God’s Creation

Bees are in trouble, which impacts not only agriculture but also food for all wildlife. The best bee news of all, though, may be that anyone with just a tiny piece of land can help these critical pollina-

tors. “Anywhere you have good, pesticide-free habitat, even as small as a suburban backyard, you are likely to find a good diver-sity and abundance of native bees.” Here are a few tips: • Provide pollen and nectar for food by planting native plants

(check local nurseries). • Ensure bees have nesting sites: Most native bees nest alone in

small holes on open, sandy ground or in brush piles, free snags, logs or excavated twigs. Supplement such natural nest sites with bundles of hollow plant stems or wooden mason-bee houses.

• Eliminate pesticides. • Help scientists study bees by reporting bees you see in your

garden to the citizen-science project “Bumble Bee Watch”.

Next week: Gardening for butterflies.
