August 28, 2015 Our Fifth Sunday Offering: Another Step in Funding Our Fellowship Hall Project This Sunday morningthe Fifth Sunday of Augustwe will direct our full offering to the Fellowship Hall building fund! In recent years we have had an annual Fifth Sunday Offering for debt retirement. A few months ago we finished paying our old construction debt! Now that we are debt free, the way is cleared for us to set aside this Fifth Sunday Offering for our new Fellowship Hall project. Here’s how you can join the rest of your church family in making this giving effort a success. Bring at least one week’s tithe to give in Sunday’s offering. A tithe is ten percent of your income. Prepare to give at least that amount. In addition, give whatever you desire in your heart to give. Ask God to direct you and, as you feel prompted, give the additional amount. Our Fifth Sunday Offering is one of three funding approaches for the Fellowship Hall project. Secondly, we are setting aside a portion of each Sunday’s offering through the rest of this year. We’ll begin a third approach in November. We will call it Building In Faith. It will be a three year stewardship campaign through which we can commit to give over time far more than we could give in a single week, month or even year. One very important thing about each of our funding approaches is that we’re making these efforts together, trusting God to provide through His peopl e for what He wants His people to do. We desire above all else for Him to receive glory for what He accomplishes through His church. Let’s take a step together this Fifth Sunday for God’s glory! Pastor Coye Still

Our Fifth Sunday Offering: Another Step in

Funding Our Fellowship Hall Project

This Sunday morning—the Fifth Sunday of August—we will direct our full offering to the Fellowship Hall building fund!

One very important thing about each of our funding approaches is that we’re making these efforts together, trusting God to provide through His people for what He wants His people to do. We desire above all else for Him to receive glory for what He accomplishes through His church.

Let’s take a step together this Fifth Sunday for God’s glory!

Pastor Coye Still

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS Joe Smith, our oldest male member, celebrated his 94th birthday August 14th. He and his wife, Emily, have been part of our church family since August 19, 2012. Joe is a member of the Men's A Bible Study Class. What most of you may not know is that Joe still works everyday. He has been associated with the heating and air conditioning industry for 67 years! But there are still more interesting facts about Joe. Josie Leo “Joe” Smith was inducted on June 3, 2007 into The Louisiana

Country and Gospel Music Legacy of Stars Hall of Fame. His certificate of induction recognizes him for exceeding all standards in the music, Radio and TV industry above and beyond expectations. When Joe was nine years old, his father gave him his first guitar, cost $8.00. He told him if he learned to play it he could get a better one. By age 14, Joe was already playing on WOLS Radio in Florence, SC. After that his music career was off and running. During World War II he served with the 8th Air Force, flying missions out of Cairo, Egypt and playing in the Air Force Orchestra. After his discharge in 1946, he continued his music. In 1947 when WHSC Radio was formed, Joe organized a band, the “Palmetto Playboys” and went on the air as soon as the station began. Moving to Charlotte from his native SC in 1948, he was soon on WSOC Radio and TV. The band's name was changed to the “Southern Playboys”. Joe has had a distinguished career in the music industry, using his God-given talents. We, his UHBC family, congratulate him on his life's accomplishments and in celebrating this milestone in his life. God bless you Joe.
