Lesson: Our Community: Beavercreek
This lesson focuses on the location, weather, food, recreation, and attractions in the city of Beavercreek, OH.
ObjectivesStudents will:
-locate US, Ohio, and Beavercreek on a map
-describe local climate/weather patterns
-describe popular foods
-name available recreational opportunities
-name an area attraction
Beavercreek: Location
• Beavercreek is in the state of Ohio.
• Beavercreek is close to Dayton, Ohio.
• Beavercreek is approximately one hour away from our state capital, Columbus.
• Beavercreek’s mascot is the beaver!
Materials Needed:
1.Map of Ohio
2.Colored Pencil (red)
3.Pencil
Students color the state of Ohio
on map. They label Beavercreek
with their pencil.

Beavercreek: Weather
• Beavercreek has 4 seasons: summer, fall, winter, and spring.
• Summers are usually very hot.• Fall is cooler and the leaves on the trees
change colors.• Winters are cold and sometimes we have
snow days!• Spring is warmer and the flowers and trees
begin to bloom.
Materials Needed:
1.Crayons
2.Drawing paper
Students draw what the weather is
like during their birthday.
Example: I have an October
birthday. The season is fall in
October so I may draw the school,
showing how the leaves are
changing colors and people are
wearing jackets.

• There are lots of places to eat in our city.
• You can choose from:
- Fast food restaurants
- Mexican
- Asian
- Indian
- Italian
- Steakhouses

can include food from lots of
different restaurants, or simply
their mom’s specialty.

Beavercreek: Recreation
• Recreation means what people do for fun!• You can do many exciting things in Beavercreek.
Some of them include:- Bowling- Movie- Parks- Swim Clubs- Mall Shopping- Eating Out- Visiting the library- Festivals (Popcorn!)
Materials Needed:
1. Paper & Pencil
2. Author’s chair/karoke microphone
Students brainstorm ideas of what they
like to do in Beavercreek for fun. They
write notes on paper and share with
the class.

Beavercreek: Attractions
Beavercreek is lucky to have a few great places
that people come from very far to visit. These
places include:
1. The National Museum of the United State Air Force
-This is the world’s largest military aviation museum! You can also see IMAX movies here.
2. The Nutter Center
-The Nutter Center hosts the Dayton Bombers hockey team, as well as many concerts and other events.
Materials Needed:
1.Parental permission
2.Sack lunch
Take students to the Air Force
Museum. Explain that flight was
invented right here in Dayton,
Ohio.
