2/3 Prac. Student

Hello! My name is Nichole Wilson. I am in my second year of

Primary Education degree at Newcastle University, and I have

absolutely loved the first week of my four-week placement

here at Paterson Public School. I am a mum to three children

who are in early years at high school; I have a beautiful boxer

dog named Padme - yes, my family are Star War geeks - and

three cheeky chickens who, I am sure, would love to have a

scratch around your little vegetable garden patch. Some of my

favourite things include gardening, renovating our house in

Tenambit, and curling up with a good book. So far, it has been

wonderful to see students playing respectfully, responsibly

and creatively in the playground, and persisting with their

leaning in the classroom. I hear that Paterson has a fantastic

sporting reputation, so I am looking forward to being a part of

the Athletics carnival on Friday. I am incredibly excited by

the fact that I get to experience the STEAM day with you all.

Soccer update!

On the 18th of June the school soccer team played against Braxton Ps at Branxton for round four

of the PSSA School Soccer Competition. The score at half time was 2-1 to Branxton but we

managed to win by 3-2 at full time.

Two of the three goals were scored by Sam and the other one going to Cohen. All three goals were

the result of an amazing team effort. It was a very close game and both teams played exceptionally

well. Congratulations to Sam for getting voted players player by the team. Good luck to the team in

round five!

4/5 Legends

What a busy term we have had at Paterson Public School. We have had

students from our class off representing Paterson Public School at a

variety of events including Multicultural Public Speaking, Robo Cup, netball,

touch football, soccer, cricket, shadow puppetry and debating. This

large group of students have all represented the school with pride.

In class we have been learning about Australia as a democracy, first

contacts in Australia, extreme weather events and trying hard to

improve our skills in a range of athletics skills in preparation for our

athletics carnival this week. Students have also been working on their

ability to persuade the reader about a certain topic. We have been

working on graphing in maths where students learnt about line

graphs and column graphs. It was fantastic to see the entire class

rehearsing and improving their skits for our assembly item this

term where they got to publicly display their drama skills. Well

done 4/5 you were great.

Have a great finish to term 2 and remember to continue striving for

excellence.

Debating at Paterson PS

On Friday the 14th the Paterson

Pelicans Debated against Karuah

Public School on the topic: All school

work should be done on computers.

With the Paterson Pelicans as

affirmative and Karuah as negative

the debate was a close match, but

the Pelicans came out on top with an

outstanding effort from Karuah. The

Paterson Pelicans team consists of:

Riley, Charlie, Milarn, Cameron and

Stevie-Lee.

BACKTRACK BOYS ~ Free Community Screening Backtrack Boys is an inspiring and AWARD WINNING new Austral-ian documentary that scooped Audience Awards for Best Docu-mentary at the Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra Film Festivals. A group of troubled boys are on a perilous course towards jail until they meet up with the rough talking, free-wheeling jackaroo Bernie Shakeshaft, and hit the road with his legendary dog jumping team. This observational documentary, filmed over two years, follows boys in a youth program that Bernie runs from a shed on the outskirts of Armidale, a rural town in Australia. On the road, the boys find their voice, make great friendships and the dogs be-come national champions. But as the boy’s sleep under the stars at night the trauma is never too far away. With their survival and futures at stake they must constantly step up, push themselves, support each other and some days can be hard. This inspiring coming of age story revels the challenges and triumphs these boys face as they try to find their place in the world and the dogs that help tame their wild ways.
