Transcript of ORTV Pictorial 2004 Q4
We are all excited about our English-teaching
TV programs for the year 2005. While
Studio Classroom is experiencing a lot of
changes, our Let’s Talk in English program
will stay refreshingly consistent. This year’s
co-hosts, Campbell Chang and Andrea
Brodersen, will continue for a second year.
Our scenario, set in Tampa, Florida, will also
continue and students will be happy to see the
same familiar, lovable cast back for 2005. We
are also adding an additional story line set in
Portland that will air one week per month.

Our Studio Classroom program
will be different from previous
years in many ways. We have a
brand-new set and a completely
new format for the show. We also
have new hosts. Steve Marth and
Liz Archer will be joining veteran
host Vickie Pettis as our core
teaching team. Rachel Sawatzky
and Ken Lee will also do a daily
feature on the show. Please
pray for this team as they work
together, that they will develop
good on-screen chemistry with
each other and depend on
God’s strength for everything.
The English Corner is one of the newest ways that ORTV is using the Internet
to reach out to students. The English Corner is an electronic bulletin board that
was launched by ORTV in March 2004. The English Corner now has over 1,300
registered users and receives around 80,000 hits per month. Students log on to the
bulletin board and post questions about any topic. Our discussions cover almost
every life issue under the sun. This forum gives us the chance to reach out and
minister to students, offering words of encouragement and Godly advice that
they often don’t get anywhere else.
Julie Hartlé, who moderates the Studio Classroom forum, says, “The English Corner
is so fun! A lot of students are really honest about their lives. I try to help encourage them, and
they end up encouraging me right back! It’s
been a great way to get to know students and
to find out more about Taiwanese culture so
I can be a better minister to the students.”
The English Corner also allows our
students from all over the world to connect
with each other. And quite significantly,
students from mainland China and Taiwan
are starting to build friendships–a small,
but significant, step toward mutual
understanding and peace.
Log onto the English Corner yourself
to see how ORTV is helping minister to
today’s students. Maybe you would
post a message yourself!
Please pray for the TV hosts and TV crews of both programs as they work tirelessly to produce these daily programs. Pray that the Lord will use these programs to prepare people’s hearts to hear the Gospel. Please also pray that our programs will continue to reach vast numbers of people and their English will improve through our programs.

● Amount needed to produce this product: NT$1,600,000.● Please pray for swift and smooth distribution of these storybooks. Pray that many non-believing parents will buy the books for their children. Also pray that the Lord will grant us a heart that loves and cares for the children who will use these storybooks.
Down-Island Christmas Rallies
From December 3 to 19, the Heavenly
Melody Singers and several Studio
Classroom teachers traveled to seven cities
around Taiwan spreading the Christmas
message. Producer Linda Yeh wrote a
musical called “Christmas: It’s All About
God,” which conveys what it means to
have God’s grace in our lives. Many seeds
were sown and souls saved. Please pray
that our outreach department and the
supporting churches will be able to do
effective follow-up work in the new year.
On average, we receive one or two requests a week to perform at schools. This is a great opportunity for us to present the Gospel message and teach English to junior and senior high school students around Taiwan.
NT$6/student is needed for follow-up.
Pray that the Lord will lead us to the schools He wants us to visit. Also pray that we can be sensitive to each student’s needs and convey God’s love to them.
ORTV Launches Children’s Character-Building Storybooks
Teaching young children about character
values is one of the most important things a
parent or teacher can do. ORTV hopes to play a
part in the character education of young Chinese
children by offering six storybooks released
in late November. The books are bilingual
and targeted toward children ages 5-9.
Producer Linda Yeh and her team based the six
books on true stories. Each book comes with an audio
CD and a CD-ROM, which has some basic animation
for the kids to watch. Young children were brought
into the ORTV studios to help record the English text.
One book, titled God’s Precious One, is
about a woman named May Hwang who
has cerebral palsy. The book teaches
children that each person is valuable.
ORTV hopes that both parents and teachers
will use the character-building storybooks.
Activities based around a character lesson
are provided at the end of each book.
“It’s exciting to be a part of this project,” said
Yeh. “Everyone has done a great job.”

teachers got up
early on December 26
to present the Christmas
message to 600 kids
ages 7-12. The theme
was “A Christmas Toy

performed a short play
about toys in a toy store
that learned the real
meaning of Christmas.

Responding to the need for trained
English teachers in the rural areas
of Taiwan, ORTV sent three foreign
teachers on an English-teaching
adventure! After two weeks of intense
cultural-introduction and language
training in the Taipei office, the teachers
set out for their respective areas.
Teachers Hope Klein and Charlotte
Oke are living in Yuli, just south of
Hualien. Marcus Robinson is living
in Chu-Shan, south of Taichung.
The teachers strive to provide quality
character education, encourage
teachers and motivate students in
these poor, rural areas of Taiwan.
Special classes are offered to students
who are financially unable to receive
a good education. Charlotte shares,
“I hope that through our work here
we can give the students greater
opportunities in the future and the
teachers greater confidence in their
English skill and teaching ability.”

ORTV’s community English classes in North America have been
growing in number and popularity ever since they started in
May, 2001. Volunteer teachers use ORTV’s English materials to
teach Chinese immigrants in their area. As well as teaching English,
the teachers share the Gospel with the
students and invite them to church.
Most classes take place in the Los
Angeles area. There are 33 classes
there, with approximately 400 students
total. There are also a few classes in
Seattle, Texas and North Carolina.
Martha Beyer, a volunteer teacher
in the L.A. area, has been very
encouraged by her experiences in
this ministry. She says, “I have been blessed as I teach Asian
immigrants to speak English. The students are bright adults who
are eager to learn. My delight is to see their face and eyes grow
bright when they finally produce the correct pronunciation.”
Please continue to pray for this
ministry and the seeds of faith
that are sown in each class. If you
are interested in either helping
in an English class or starting
your own, please contact Susan
Cheng or Angela Wills in our
North American branch office.
