One year ago, we received a letter from Seddigheh, a young woman in Iran. She wrote to tell us how much she and her niece Ziba were enjoying watching our programs via satellite. Seddigheh and Ziba have a common goal: They hope to be teachers and manage an English institute in their city. To help them make progress toward that goal, ORTV, along with one of our board members, Norm Dalke, sent magazines, CDs, MP3s and the Jeff and Jenny series to help them get started. The young women have started a small class teaching English to some of the neighborhood children. Of all of my responsibilities at ORTV, one of my favorite tasks is answering the letters that come in from our many students around the world. One year ago, we received

a letter from Seddigheh, a young woman in Iran. She wrote to tell us how much she and her niece Ziba were enjoying watching our programs via satellite. Imagine our surprise to learn that Let’s Talk in English and Studio Classroom Coffee Corner were being beamed to Iran! Over the past year, Seddigheh and I have struck up an e-mail friendship that continues still today. It’s always a joy hearing from her because of her enthusiasm matched with an unquenchable zeal for learning English. Christian Music Conference 2004

Heavenly Melody Releases Its Latest Taiwanese Album

Heavenly Melody on Tour

Christian Music Christian Music

From September 3-5, 2004, wor-ship leaders, instrumentalists

and singers from Chinese churches all over the world congregated in San Francisco. They attended this year’s Christian Music Conference to learn more about Christian music and how to use their talents to glorify God through music. www.cm2004.org Many distinguished experts led seminars on worship leading, vocal and instrumental training, song writ-ing and audio engineering. ORTV’s CEO Doris Brougham conducted two seminars on ministry expansion and leading worship with a servant’s heart. Heavenly Melody’s Esther Liao also led a seminar on vocal techniques. As well as the seminars, the attend-ees were treated to two evening wor-ship concerts where all the speakers performed and everyone worshiped together. Heavenly Melody, who were in California for their North American tour, also performed in this concert.

The Heavenly Melody Singers have just fi nished re-cording their 18th album of original songs, a Tai-

wanese album entitled “The Arena of Life.” It includes songs with a contemporary fl avor along with many in the traditional Taiwanese music style. The album fo-cuses on the Heavenly Father’s love and how lives can be changed when people come back to Him.

Heavenly Melody toured the U.S. and Canada from August 12 to September 10.

As well as ministering in churches, they also performed at the Christian Music Conference 2004 and participated in a series of concerts called “Power to Change” in Los Angeles.

Cross-Strait Teachers Camp in Beijing

Six Studio Classroom teachers (Liz and Phil Archer, Rachel and Matt Sawatzky, Hazel Johansen and Steve Marth) led the

“Cross-Strait English Teachers’ Camp” in Beijing August 15-21. Arrangements were made jointly by Studio Classroom’s Beijing branch offi ce and Taipei headquarters. Camp participants included over 50 teachers from both Taiwan and the Chinese Mainland. Studio Classroom (SC) teachers gave presentations on using Let’s Talk In English and Studio Classroom as well as teaching theory and practice. There were many opportunities for the Taiwan and Chinese Main-land teachers to exchange ideas with each other about teaching. More importantly it was a chance for both sides to better understand each other. With God’s grace, each of the six SC tea-chers had the opportunity to share directly about the importance of Christ in their life and teaching. Teacher Phil Archer commented, “It was wonderful to see the Taiwan and Chinese Mainland teachers together and to be able to share our English teaching and belief in Jesus with them.” Studio Classroom will follow up on this important work through con-

tact with these teachers in Taiwan and the Chi-nese Mainland. Please keep this Studio Class-room teaching services ministry to Taiwan and the Chinese Mainland in your prayers.

Heavenly Melody on Tour ORTV and HCJB (Heralding Christ Jesus’ Blessings) World Radio have been of

like mind and worked together on projects for several decades. Now the two organizations take things to the next level—with digital shortwave radio. HCJB World Radio has already been broadcasting to countless countries around the world using international shortwave, spreading the gospel in more than 100 languages and dialects. But until recently, one huge part of the world remained unreached by their broadcasts—the 10/40 window (mainly Mainland China, North Korea and Central Asia). Now, with a new shortwave transmission tower in northern Australia, HCJB World Radio is ready to broadcast the gospel without re-striction to these unreached countries. HCJB World Radio representatives met with ORTV leaders in July to discuss how both organizations could work together to make the most of this exciting opportunity. Beginning this fall, HCJB is broadcasting ORTV’s Studio Classroom English-teaching program and Sunday Break gospel program. When HCJB adds a second transmitter, they will be able to broadcast ORTV’s whole range of English-teaching programs and gospel programs in Mandarin, Fujianese and possibly other languages. ORTV asks for your prayers as we continue seeking God’s direction for this project, as well as gifts from you, our sponsors and partners in this endeavor to build God’s Kingdom.

Jason and Michelle Roloff and their four children moved to St. Louis, Missouri, after two years at ORTV Headquarters in Taipei. Jason was involved in business, marketing and research development, as well as serving on the International Committee, working with the branch offi ces around the world. Jason plans to stay in-volved with ORTV while in

the States. “My plan is to assist in furthering the strategy in North America and to deepen an awareness of how people can be involved in ORTV’s ministries,” he said. Michelle worked part-time in the English Department. But

most of Michelle’s time has been spent raising three boys and one girl, all under the age of 6! “It was a great experience for our family to be in Taiwan,” Jason refl ects. “Immersion in a different culture is life-changing.”

ORTV Says Goodbye to the Roloff Family

Linda Way was born in Taiwan, but immigrated with her family to California when she was eight years old. Her mother, Jennifer, is the treasurer of ORTV’s North American offi ce. Linda grew up listening to the Heavenly Melody Singers. Linda says, “I remembered praying that God would send me to serve at ORTV.” So after graduating this past June with a B.A. in Interna-tional Studies and Political Science at the Univer-sity of California, Irvine, she followed the Lord’s calling to serve at ORTV. She now serves in the English Department and is part of the Let’s Talk in English cast. Refl ecting on her fi rst weeks at ORTV, Linda says, “I feel completely embraced by the ORTV family and look forward to discovering the Lord’s path for me here.”
