On Friday June 21 a group of around40-50 bikers, including Noble Todd Bai-ley took a ride to Odgensburgh to pickup one veteran that would be attendingthe Honor Flight XXVIII on Saturday,June 22nd. On their way back to Platts-burgh they picked up our own Winnie(Winston) Norcross who would be partof the 15 Veterans that would be trav-eling to Washington DC for the day.
The escorts included local fire de-partments and law enforcement. TheHonor Flight is a small token to thank
these men for all of their sacrifices. This was truly an amazing day in DCfor Winnie. He was also joined by hisson, Jim Norcross.
This was reported in the PeruGazette, June 22nd:
WINSTON NORCROSSArmy Air Corps 1944-1946 WWII Private First Class
Winnie enlisted in the Army AirCorps as a high school senior. As theWar was winding down his chance to
become a pilot was cancelled. As-signed to the 393rd BombardmentSquadron he was part of CrossroadsProject in Arizona where bombs weretested. He then went to Marshall Is-lands on a B-17 doing search and res-cue. Winnie said he was only shot atonce when he and a couple of buddiestried to steal watermelons and thefarmer shot at them! Also want to rec-ognize Winnie’s son Guardian JamesNorcross, Air Force, 1969-1973, Viet-nam Veteran.
