DEAN’ S LETTER Happy Easter! The Lord is Risen, He is Risen Indeed! Spring brings new life, new hope, new beginnings and allergies. I hope you will enjoy all but the last of these. I unfortunately will suffer through what is expected to be a very bad allergy season and will keep antihistamines close by! New beginnings are an exciting time for everyone. For me, I will start a new church position as Director of Music/Organist at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, York. An anticipated congregation awaits my arrival while my Hanover congregation warmly sent me off knowing that I had “raised the bar” of keyboard playing beyond their expectations. I look forward to a new life of Lutheran liturgy, a new congregational family to serve and worship with and new hope of proclaiming the good news through music ministry. New beginnings will occur on the Executive Board as we elect officers and members to the board. I wish to thank Carolyn Smith our Sub-Dean for her tireless efforts in finding York Chapter members willing to run for election. I am happy to announce the following names that are willing to serve: Jerrod Coates Jeffrey Cogan Christine Kates Jacqueline Linsey Any additional nominations may be made by written petition and sent to my attention by the end of the month. The election will then occur in May. Plan to attend our April 9 meeting and play York’s newest pipe organ at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, York. There will be a music sale to benefit our scholarship fund. A social will follow the event.

Victor Fields

The Chaplain of the York Chapter. The Rev. Stanley Reep (St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, S. George St.) has agreed to continue to serve as chaplain. He is available to York Chapter members for any pastoral care issues and may be reached at the church #717-843-8155 or at home #717-840-2528.

USED MUSIC LIBRARY The AGO used music display is now organized and permanently available anytime in the music library at St. Matthew Lutheran Church by appointment. The music is available for a donation of $1 per copy and benefits the Harold R. Hunt and Theodore C. Herzel Scholarship Fund. The selection has just been updated and there is currently a great selection.

Piano needs a good home The piano is a Wurlitzer. I can't believe but it must be 55 years old. The piano is in tune and the keys and body are in excellent shape. I just would like to find someone student who needs a piano. If you know of anyone I would love to give it to them. Linda S. Lopez 19 N. Russell Street York, PA 17402*

Interesting Organ Tour Justin Nimmo sent us this link to a very interesting YouTube video of Martin Ellis playing and giving a tour of the WurliTzer in the Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis. You may remember that Justin played for SVTOS in June 2012, and he works for Carlton Smith who restored and installed the instruments. This is one of the organs that will be featured during the 2014 ATOS Convention in Indianapolis. (Starts with the Saint– Saens Organ Concerto) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNh7_8AWwoc&feature=em-share_video_user

From Norman Selby ([email protected]) APPEAL TO MUSIC LOVERS TO SAVE AN INSTRUMENT FROM DESTRUCTION Your dollars (USD) are needed to help rescue and restore an historic pipe organ in New England, USA, that otherwise faces demolition. Until the church’s congregation left its 150 year-old-building, a large (57-rank, five divisions) pipe organ by the prestigious Austin Organ Company, with more recent additions by Andover, was maintained in optimum condition. But the church was recently sold and is being redeveloped, with no interest in this fine instrument and no purchasers, leaving this organ now facing destruction – the dumpster . THIS ORGAN CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO BE DESTROYED, AND YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO SAVE IT! Once rescued and restored – with your help! – the organ will have a new life serving in another locale as a worship and public recital instrument imparting a vital community presence to the incomparable organ music of J.S. Bach and other great masters. Please make your contribution through PAY-PAL (if you do not have an account, I will invoice you through their system). Thank you for your kind consideration!
