The O2S started off asan idea between tworiding buddies. “Jeff
Juntti and I wanted tocreate a point-to-point
race that offeredaccessible terrain to
every skill level,”explained race director
Scott Tuma. Puttingtogether the O2S was noeasy task….But the effort
proved worthy as theO2S now attracts topMidwest riders and
thousands of others.—O2S

Scott Tuma, 2011 O2S Race Director, onthe growing popularity of the O2S…First, I think it's our geography. We havegreat terrain here in Marquette County. It'snot flat by any means, but it's not asundoable as the Colorado Mountains either. With Lake Superior as a backdrop, magnificent views are provided as someracers descend practically 1,000 feet.Sometimes I know it doesn't seem like it,especially at Kirby's Hill, but from 20 or somiles out, you're on a gradual declinetowards the lake for the duration.Secondly, we've designed a coursethat's interesting to all levels of riders. We're attracting some of theMid-West's topriders who enjoythe challenge ofthe 48-milecourse, but weare alsoattracting ridersfor the 28-milerace who havenever beforeentered anyrace. They feelcomfortableenough knowingthat there issupport on thetrail, that the trailisn't tootechnical andthat they canride for their ownpersonalenjoyment.
NoticePortions of theracecourse west ofCR 510 cross privatelands whose ownershave graciouslygranted O2S one-day(race-day only) usepermits to cross. Please do notjeopardize the futureof the O2S race bytrespassing orotherwisedisrespecting theselands or their owner’sprivacy. Thank-you.

The uniqueness of the O2S is what attracts so many riders.Including the O2S, only three major point-to-point races are
offered in the Midwest. Point-to-point races are rare...one thatis 48 miles in length is almost unheard of. —O2S
