Learning Objectives
• You will design your own manufacturing process line complete with:– Models– Design work and flows– Control processes
Your Product
• You are the manufacturer of a cheese cracker (saltine, spread, saltine)
Your Goal• Make money• Produce cracker sandwiches that meet the
product requirementsParameter ValueThickness (cm) No greater than .5
inchAlignment between top and bottom cracker
Within 1/16 inch
Defects• You must avoid defects:– Anything that doesn’t meet the height and
alignment targets decide what to do with (scrap? Rework?)
– No cheese can extend beyond the edge or through the holes in the cracker.
– No breakage or damaged edges of crackers must occur. This is scrap.
– Sandwiches must be in bags with 3 sandwiches per bag.

• Everyone participates: use all of team as workers

Activity 1
• First we analyze the problem• Open the file model_student and go to the
worksheet “cost model”– Open from impact.asu.edu/~bss11
• Answer all questions
Activity 2
• Design your processes/flows• You must design the work and the rest of the
system and collect data
Activity 3
• After lab, fill out document your designs in the file “Operating_Specification.doc” passed out to each group
