3Rules for Safe Operation and Maintenance

Do Not Drive Recklessly

Do not operate this machine when under the influence ofalcohol or when fatigued. No one under age18 should operate this vehicle.

Work with an Observer in DangerousSituations

When operating the machine where there is poor visibility, rugged terrain, hills, or limited maneuvering room, use anobserver to help direct the machine 's movement. Use the Engine Speed to Help Brake whenDriving Down a Slope

Before driving down a slope, stop the machine temporarilyand lower the speed of the engine, and drive down the slopeat a low speed.Let the engine speed help decelerate the machine.Travel at a low speed on wet steel plates and in muddyplaces. The machine may slip even on a gentle slope, causing a seri-ous accident. Stopping suddenly when driving down a slopecan throw the operator from the machine or make themachine turn over, causing serious injury or death.

Do Not Drive Across a Slope to Drive on the Slope

Always travel straight up and down a slope.Never travel across a slope or along a contour line.Driving across a steep slope or along a contour line is dan-gerous and may cause the machine to tip over causing seriousinjury or death.Do not operate the side clutch lever when the vehicle is posi-tioned on sharply sloping ground. If use of the lever cannotbe avoid, do so quickly and carefully, taking care not to causea reverse turn.

Precautions when parking

Do Not Park on Unstable or Inclined Surfaces

Do not park the machine on a slope. If it has to be parked on a slope, apply the parking brakesecurely and block the rubber tracks at the lower end .

Safely Leaving the Machine Unattended

Whenever you park the machine, be sure to turn the parkingbrake switch to the [P] position to apply the parking brake, and stop the engine.Remove the key whenever you leave the machine unattended.

3Rules for Safe Operation and Maintenance

Observe Weight Limit of a Bridge or Overpass

Before crossing a bridge or overpass, be sure that the totalcombined weight of the machine and the load does notexceed the stated weight limit for the bridge or overpass. Then cross the bridge or overpass carefully at a constantspeed.

Load Vehicle Properly

Load cargo on the load deck so it is evenly distributed andstrap the cargo to the load deck to avoid cargo weightimbalance and shifting. Do not load cargo on the load deck to a height that obstructsthe operator's field of view.

Counter rotating turn (Spin Turn)A transmission incorporating a differential gear is mounted on this machine. According to how far theclutch lever is pulled a turn can be changed progressively from a gentle turn, to a normal turn (one crawlerstops and the vehicle is turned by the rotation of the other crawler), to a counter rotating turn (the twocrawlers are rotated in opposite directions, and the vehicle is turned rapidly around the center point of thevehicle).

This is used to increase or decrease the speed of the engine.

Used to change the traveling direction of the vehicle. The vehicleturns to the side to which the lever is pulled. According to how farthe lever is pulled, the turn can be changed from the normal turn tothe counter rotating turn (Spin turn). When the right and leftclutch levers are pulled at the same time, the vehicle stops immedi-ately.

Used to interrupt the transmission of power from the engine to thetransmission. When the lever is lowered, the operation modebecomes "RUN" (travel). When it is tilted, the operation modebecomes "STOP" (stop). When the lever is tilted forward, theoperation mode becomes "BRAKE ON."

Used to select the traveling speed. To shift the gears, move theclutch lever to "STOP" position (to "BRAKE ON" position on asloped ground) to stop the vehicle beforehand.

Used to start and stop the engine.

Pull to close the choke valve and return to open it. It is pulledbefore the engine is started and returned after the engine is started.

Used to perform the dumping operation in which the bucket israised and lowered.

Used to perform the lift operation in which the bucket is raised andlowered.

7.8.5 Track Tension

Loose track tension can cause the tracks to come off the machine, causing damage to themachine and possibly serious injury or death to the operator or bystanders. During the first 100 hours of use, the tracks stretch and the track tension loosens.Check track tension during the preoperation inspection and as part of monthly inspections,as specified in the Regular Inspection Chart.

NOTICE

1. Stop the machine on level ground.

2. Jack up the front and rear of the chassis to raise thecrawler on one side and make it horizontal to the groundsurface.

3559M-0708-070

Perform this step with extra care so that the jackdoes not move from the specified positions.

NOTICE

7 7

If the side clutch lever is too loose, adjust it withthe turnbuckles of the side clutch rod. Thisadjustment is not usualy required other thanwhen the transmission is mounted and dismount-ed and the rods are overhauled.

7.9 Maintenance After Use

Maintenance After Use in Normal Conditions・ After using the machine, remove any mud, water, or other foreign matter stuck to the machine. Do not

wash the engine or control panel with water. This will allow water to enter and lead to rust.

・ When leaving the machine outdoors, cover it with a waterproof cover.

Maintenance After Use in Cold Weather・ After using the machine, remove any mud, water, or other foreign matter stuck to the machine. Then park

the machine on concrete or firm dry ground, or set it on blocks. If water or mud stuck to the machinefreezes, it may cause failure.(In extremely cold areas, put wooden blocks under the crawlers at right anglesto the machine.)

・ When leaving the machine outdoors, cover it with a waterproof cover.

Transporting Machine

– 44 –

10. Transporting MachineWhen loading and unloading this machine onto a truck for transportation, follow these safetyprecautions.

1. Use ramps that have ample strength (that can hold the total weight of the machine and operator), width (at least1.2 times the width of the crawler), and length (at least 3 times the height of the bed of the truck), and are fit-ted with no-slip pads. Choose a place where the ramps will not bend under the weight of the machine.

2. Fit the hooks of the ramps to the bed of the truck so that they do not slip and so that there is no height differ-ence from the bed of the truck.

Height

Length of 3 times height or longer

3559M-1000-010

• When loading and unloading the machine, do not allow any-one to come near the machine or the ramps.

• Do not change direction on the ramps. There is a dangerthat the machine will fall off.

• When driving up the ramps, shift the gear shift lever to theforward 1st position, and when driving down, shift it to thereverse 1st position, then travel slowly.

DANGER

The gravity center of the machine may suddenly shift, whencrossing from the ramps into the bed of the truck.
