Opening Worlds of Possibilities for Children with Learning Disabilities

Havern School provides a specialized education program for elementary and middle school students with diagnosed learning disabilities.

Utilizing a 4:1 student to staff ratio, master teachers, occupational therapists, and speech/language pathologists provide a comprehensive program of intervention services.

Our ultimate goal is to create confident learners who will continue to achieve success beyond Havern School.

Havern School is a nationally recognized community of professionals, parents, families, and friends working together to address the individual academic, social, and emotional needs of our students.

Honors and Awards

Havern’s digital classroom teacher, Maria Cunningham, was the recipient of the December Century Link Leadership in Education Award from Century Link Communications and the Denver Nuggets. Maria accepted a $1,000 check for Havern at the Nuggets game on December 20th, 2013.

The 2013-14 school year brought another opportunity to open worlds of possibilities for children with learning disabilities at Havern School.

Many of our students have experienced academic failure before coming to Havern, resulting in lowered self-esteem and decreased confidence. Some have internalized the message that their world is limited or defined by their disability. Our mission is to open the possibilty of a brighter future for these children by providing them with the proper tools and support to succeed at learning.

As a Havern alum stated, “For me, failure was not the end of the world; it was a starting point... the skills and confidence that were built in me from my teachers and my time at Havern were unwavering. I knew that I was smart; I knew that I was skilled; and most of all - I knew that I could succeed.”

We would like to thank the Havern community - donors, trustees, teachers, therapists, staff members, families, volunteers, and friends - for their invaluable support of Havern School and its students. You have all helped open whole new worlds for children with learning disabilities.

Our 47th Year: Opening Worlds of Possibilities

Program Assistant, US Agency for International Development

Kelsey attended Havern for three years, from 1997-2000. Kelsey says that “Havern taught me to read and write. The teachers explained things in ways I could understand. They were invested in my success; therefore I was successful!”

Havern teacher:

“I like to learn.”

“Havern restored Tim’s self-confidence and confirmed that he IS smart, but he learns differently.”

“Havern is not only a sanctuary for learning and education; it is a place where the entire school community functions as a family.”

Havern grandparent:

Havern student:

Havern parent:

“I feel it’s a great honor and privilege to support Havern for so many reasons. I can’t imagine working at a better place, serving more wonderful people.”

We believe that students with learning disabilities...

• Can and want to learn• Develop self confidence from academic success• Benefit from small group instruction and a structured,

consistent, multi-sensory approach• Can become effective self-advocates• Benefit from a strong school and family partnership
