Perpetual adoration & the year of mercySpending time in front of our Lord is one of the many prime examples of growing our faith and mercy especially during the holy season of Lent. Jesus “never tires of casting open the doors of His heart and of

repeating that He loves us and wants to share His love with us.” (Pope Francis)

Written by Missy Schmidt, PEA Coordinator: Perhaps you are trying to figure out options of growing in your faith through this season of Lent. You’re not alone! It’s not always what you do that makes a difference, it’s how you do it. Praying in front of the Eucharist in Perpetual Adoration is just one of the many but key aspects of growing your faith especially in the liturgical year, the Jubilee Year of Mercy, that was proclaimed by Pope Francis himself last year. Below are a few questions and answers for those wanting to go the extra step in spending one on one time with our Lord:

Q: What do I do while adoring the Eucharist?

A:While visiting and adoring our Lord you might wish to pray, read from sacred scripture, mediate on spiritual writings, or simply sit in silence in the presence of our Lord in humble adoration.

Q: What is Eucharistic Adoration?

A:Eucharistic Adoration is ongoing Adoration of our Lord exposed in the Eucharist. When we as individuals or as a community take time out of our hectic lives in devotion, we proclaim to everyone that Jesus, Our Lord, is truly present among us. We attest to the importance of prayer in our lives. The more we present ourselves before the Lord in his Eucharistic Presence, the more we respond to his invitation “Could you not watch one hour with Me?” By our prayer and presence, we bring Christ to His people.

Q: Why is exposition of the Blessed Sacrament necessary?

A: The difference between spending time before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance, rather than in the tabernacle, is similar to conversing with a friend face -to- face instead of having a closed door between you.

It helps one to be faithful to his/her scheduled hour because Jesus cannot be left alone in the Blessed Sacrament exposed in a monstrance. The scheduled attendants are ‘guardians’ of the Blessed Sacrament so their presence is necessary. But by far the most compelling reason for exposition is because the Holy Spirit has specifically requested we reverence the Blessed Sacrament as a sign of our devotion and love.

Q: What are the benefits of Eucharistic Adoration?

A:Each person that spends time in the presence of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament grows in holiness which leads to a greater revelation concerning the great mysteries of our faith. Communally, the fruits of Eucharistic Adoration are evident through increased Mass attendance, conversion, return of fallen away Catholics, and increased vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life. Through our Holy Hours of prayer the Holy Father declared that we are contributing to “the radical transformation of the world,” the “establishing of everlasting peace,” and the coming of Christ’s kingdom on earth.

5 Year Anniversary of Perpetual Adoration!

March 12, 2016 • Mass • 5:30 PM • CTKRev. Paul Zoghby will be our celebrant and homilist.

Potluck after Mass! We’d love for you to join us!

”I think we too are the people who, on the one hand, want to listen to Jesus, but on the other hand, at times, like to find a stick to beat others with, to condemn others. And Jesus has this message for us: mercy. I think — and I say it with humility — that this is the Lord’s most powerful message: mercy.”
