Page 2: Opening Sequence Props

Cloth – The cloth will be faded white and is supposed to be soaked in chloroform. There will be a bit of dry blood on it to indicate someone was harmed. The janitor will sneak up to the student and knock him out with the chloroform soaked cloth. The cloth will only be seen once during that scene. The prop is important because it helps to show the janitor is using this to abduct students, once used the janitor puts the cloth in his pocket.

Wheel Bin – It will be black with a black plastic bin bag in inside. There won’t be blood on the bin because the janitor cleans it so it doesn’t look suspicious. The student is put into the bin after being knocked out and is then rolled off by the janitor. The wheel bin will be seen for a big part of the opening sequence, it’s important because it’s leading the audience to the janitor’s office.

Missing Posters – They’re missing posters with students on them who’ve gone missing and is shown in front of the student when he’s working. They don’t have blood on them because nothing bad happened near them. The prop is used to show how students are going missing lately. We only see the missing posters as the student is working. The prop is important because it hints at danger that will happen later on but leaves who did it a mystery.

Pen and Black Book– The pen is standard and black, the book is listed with all the students in the school and the ones he’s kidnapped are crossed out. There’s no blood on it because the janitor keeps his room tidy. The pen and paper is used to cross off the student who the janitor just abducted in the opening sequence. We only see this once. This is important because it shows that he’s doing this randomly and chooses whoever he feels like so the antagonist is unpredictable.

After the janitor knocks out the student with chloroform, the students falls onto the keyboard for a second so letter is constantly pressed until the janitor takes him. It will only be seen during the scene where the student is taken by the janitor. The prop is important because it’s a clue of what the student was doing before they completely disappear.

CCTV Computers – This is the computer that the janitor’s office that he uses to monitor the whereabouts of the students in the school, it has camera footage of different areas of the school. When the janitor walks into his office the computers are visible spying on the students on his desk. The prop is important because it shows how the janitor knows where every student would be at certain times.

Missing Board – This is what the missing posters are attached to at the beginning of the opening sequence, without the posters in front it’s just an empty board. The board has all the missing posters of missing students stuck on it. This only appears when the student is doing work just before being abducted by the janitor. The prop is important because it tells the audience that something bad will happen and shows the large amount of people that this already happened to.
