Locations, costumes and props 4

In this presentation, I will be explaining my fourth ideas for location, costumes and props in my film opening idea.

LocationThe location of the film opening would be near Whitestone pond at Hampstead Heath.

I think this would be the best location to create this sequence as it offers the same iconographic setting as most common thrillers do, being a woods like environment.

There will then establishing shots of the setting being London. These shots may be taken from locations such as Primrose hill.

The scenes after this will be shots of objects at the protagonist’s home. These objects include: a news report, torn news articles on the wall of the killer represented in a trophy like fashion, the characters journal/diary, maps on the wall with pins in locations, possibly weapons, surgical gloves and tape.

CostumesMain character (First scene)

The main character will be presented with a sense of individual style.

Clothing: In the opening the character will be seen in muddy boots to give a realistic sense as he will be in the woods. He will also be wearing black trousers with braces hanging down the back of his legs. He would also be wearing a plain white t-shirt.

Hairstyles: His hairstyle would be presented in a messy way to show the madness of the character.

Main character (Second scene)

Clothing: For the next scene, the character will be presented in black jeans and a black baseball jacket. These colours are mostly used to give the impression of darkness in his character. Brown or black boots will be used.

Hairstyles: His hair would be tidier and in a slicked back style, showing him in a more stable state.

I have used these costumes and props to create a distinctive style.

The news reporter will also be portrayed in a formal dress style to show her profession.

Props

The character will have a tattoo on his arm to able the audience to identify this from the dark lit character. I have also chosen to do this in an attempt to imitate cult films that use little details on the characters that make them popular.

In the opening the hammer will be used as the main weapon as it connotes a gruesome madness and aggression which can intimidate the audience. This weapon fits better into a thriller opening as other weapons such as an axe or blade show iconography of typical horror films.

The fake blood will be used at the beginning of the opening to show the character has killed someone.

A news report will be filmed and used in the montage along with the credits.

Torn news articles on the wall of the killer represented in a trophy like fashion, the characters journal/diary, maps on the wall with pins in locations, possibly weapons, surgical gloves and tape. I have chosen these as they can represent the characters personality and what he does.
