Reusable Learning Objects ( RLO ) :

term first proposed by Wayne Hodgins in 1994

metaphors include Lego toy building bricks

and Meccano toy building pieces

as context-free one-size-fits-all smallest units

of teaching to combine together to build syllabus

Reusable Learning Objects ( RLO ) :

problems included context-free nature,

relevance, not-invented-here,

and no Needs Analysis on end-users

Open Educational Resource ( OER ) :

In simple terms, defined here to be

a small self-contained unit

of self-assessable teaching

with a measurable learning objective,

often in digital electronic format

and generally free to use

we’ll look at various definitions later on …

Open Education Networkhttp :// www . open - ed. net

differences between RLO and OER

relate to various issues such as being

context-free or not

free or open access

intended purpose as stand-alone or use in combination

Open Educational Practices ( OEP ) :

the current focus on practice aims to

increase uptake, adapting and reusing of OER

Open Educational Practices ( OEP ) :

“ the range of practices around the

creation, use and management

of open educational resources

with the intent to improve quality

and innovate education ”

Suggestions :

Workshop participants are invited to - reflect on their own philosophy of education - make related criteria explicit for quality - co-create OER in a small team

then to present this to the other groups with question-and-answer discussions.

Open Education Networkhttp :// www . open - ed. net

Suggestions : The issue remains for how to encourage participants to adopt, adapt and reuse, therefore …let's choose a same OER topic for each /every team so that some "Hey, I could adapt and use that idea here" feelings can be experienced

the suggested topic is 'Study Skills for Online Students’

the intended outcome and impact are to co-create together an OER that we each take away, localise and reuse in our respective local contexts
