Agfa Graphics is at the forefront of the digital
printing industry. At the site in Leeds they
electrochemically process aluminium coils to
make the substrate for lithographic printing
plates.
This multi-award-winning site is committed to
best practice and is externally certified to be
compliant to four major internationally
recognized standards: ISO 14001 for
Environmental management, ISO 9001 for
Quality management, OHSAS 18001 for
Health and Safety management, ISO 50001
for Energy Management.
Agfa Graphics has won several national UK
awards for its environmental performance. Over 1,000,000 injury free exposure hours at this
site
Alitex are pioneers in making aluminium
glasshouses and over the past six decades
they have designed, manufactured and
constructed some of the most beautiful
bespoke greenhouses and conservato-
ries. Alitex work in partnership with world re-
nowned organisations, such as the National
Trust and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew,
to deliver new high quality ranges.
Since relocating to the current site in 2001
the company has been transformed.
Dynamic changes have been made as they
embraced ‘Lean’ tools and techniques.
With plans to raise throughput a further 30%
over the next 3 years continuous process
improvement and development of staff are
seen as crucial foundations for building on
past success.

site has been designing, manufacturing and
supporting aerospace and avionics

Buhler Sortex is a world leader in innovation
and delivery of sorting solutions to the global
food and non-food processing industries.
They design, manufacture and supply optical
sorting machines to over 100 countries
throughout the world. The machines are used
to detect and remove unwanted and
blemished material from products such as
rice, coffee, nuts, vegetables, etc.
Buhler are a low volume, high value, high
technology assembly operation utilising
modern manufacturing techniques.

Winner of the best UK process plant in
2013, Entek International Ltd manufactures PE battery separators which are used in auto-
motive batteries. The plant exports 100% of
everything it produces.
The production lines run 24x7, continually
mixing and extruding materials into a
continuous polythene sheet, which is then
subjected to various highly specialised in
process treatments. This is high volume
continuous process manufacturing using
capital intensive manufacturing lines and
ancillary site services.

The Toyota Manufacturing UK (TMUK) site as
Deeside, North Wales, is a centre of
excellence within the Toyota Group. This site
is the first Toyota factory outside Japan to
have the honour of building a hybrid vehicle
engine. The power plant, which is integral to
the Hybrid Synergy Drive system, is wholly
produced at the North Wales facility. Raw
aluminium is smelted and cast on-site, prior to
machining assembly and testing of the
finished unit. The finished engines are then
shipped to Toyota’s Burnaston car plant in
Derbyshire for installation.

Clydach Refinery located near Swansea in
South Wales, is one of Europe’s largest nickel
refineries, producing high purity nickel pellet
and powder products for specialist
applications such as high nickel alloys,

countries worldwide (Europe, Asia and USA).
Their Continuous Improvement (CI)
