You should be directed to the NIC single-sign on page. Enter your organizational credentials (your MYNIC username and password)

NOTE: you will need to add @nic.edu after your username

IF YOU GET TAKEN TO A BLUE PAGE FIRST…

Some people may first be directed to blue SilkRoad Performance login screen (see screenshot at right)

To get to the NIC single sign-on page, do not enter any credentials in the blue page and click “Login with External Authentication”. Then you should be directed to the single sign-on page shown in the upper right.

5) My Goals - This section is will not be used this fiscal year (although it will remain visible).

6) My Team Members – Displays list of direct reports (for managers). If you a manager, you will see your direct reports listed here. By clicking on a team member’s name, you will be able to keep a private journal on that employee to track performance measures and milestones throughout the year. Then, the journal can easily be accessed during the annual appraisal process.

SILKROAD PERFORMANCE JOURNAL

Everyone gets a Journal… access it by clicking the Journal tile in the My Profile section.

You can choose the type of entry from a prepared drop-down list, enter in the performance milestones you want to remember, and click “Add Entry”. The entry is date/time stamped and recorded for only the user’s viewing and is easily accessible during the annual appraisal process.

STEPS IN APPRAISAL PROCESS1. Employee self-appraisal completed through SilkRoad Performance.

2. Manager appraisal of employee completed through SilkRoad Performance.

3. 2nd level manager (manager’s manager) reviews and approves the employee appraisal through SilkRoad Performance.

4. Manager meets with employee to discuss appraisal. Manager and employee sign hard copy of appraisal (for HR file).

5. Manager acknowledges meeting took place through SilkRoad Performance.

6. Employee acknowledges meeting took place through SilkRoad Performance.

STEP ONE: Self-Appraisal Employee is notified via e-mail from ADMINISTRATOR, SILKROAD

PERFORMANCE that it is time to write their self-appraisal.

The employee will follow instructions in the e-mail to login to SilkRoad Performance.

On the user dashboard the employee will see a task under the My To Do list. Clicking the task launches the appraisal (instructions provided) in the appraisal document.

Completion and submission of self-appraisal triggers the next step.

STEP TWO: Manager Appraisal Manager notified via e-mail is notified via e-mail from ADMINISTRATOR,

SILKROAD PERFORMANCE that it is time to write the appraisal for Employee X.

Manager logs into SilkRoad Performance and will see a task under the My To Do list. Clicking the task launches the appraisal (instructions provided) in the appraisal document.

Completion of the manager appraisal triggers next step in process.

STEP THREE: 2nd Level Manager Review The 2nd level manager is notified via e-mail that they need to review

the appraisal for Employee X.

The 2nd level manager logs in and sees a task to complete. Clicking the task launches the review process.

2nd level manager may approve the appraisal or request additional information from the manager.

2nd level manager approval triggers the next step in the process.

STEP FOUR: Meet With Employee Once the 2nd level manager approves the appraisal, the manager

will get notified via e-mail that they need to conduct the appraisal meeting with the employee.

Employee can view manager’s appraisal once it is approved, which allows the employee to see the appraisal before they get to the meeting. This allows the meeting time to be used not to go over each part of the appraisal, but to really discuss milestones and goals.

One copy appraisal should be printed for this meeting. The employee and manager should sign the appraisal and send it to HR.

STEP FIVE: Manage Meeting Manager logs into SilkRoad Performance to manage the appraisal

meeting information.

At this point, the meeting has taken place and so the manager is simply acknowledging the meeting took place.

Manager completes the required data entry in the Manage Meeting task and acknowledges meeting occurred.

Upon saving this task, last step is triggered in process.

STEP SIX: Employee Acknowledgement Employee is notified via e-mail to acknowledge the appraisal

meeting occurred. There will be an acknowledgement task waiting for them in their SilkRoad Performance account.

Employee can review any journal notes the manager has left and/or add their own.

Upon saving acknowledgement, process is complete.

APPRAISAL TIMELINEIt will be vital to the process for employees and manager to promptly act on the e-mail notifications and tasks in their SilkRoad Performance accounts.

Anticipated timeline: April 10: Employee Self-appraisals start April 21: Employee self-appraisal completed (at the latest) May 8: Managers appraisals completed (at the latest) May 19: 2nd level managers complete all appraisal reviews on their task list

(at the latest). June 6: Deadline for managers to: 1) meet to discuss appraisal, 2) sign

printed copy which is sent to HR, and 3) acknowledge meeting through SilkRoad Performance system (at the latest).

June 8: Deadline for employees to acknowledge meeting through SilkRoad Performance system (at the latest).

Keep in mind – the sooner one task is completed, the sooner the next person can start their task. So the deadline dates are the latest someone can complete their task. We recommend getting them done sooner.
