Let’s get back to our roots, with this original fountain cow in the heart of the village! This is the only resin sculpture in the series made by the artist Rémix to still be with us after all these years, thanks to the restoration carried out by Le Grand-Bornand municipal services in 2015.

Back to the past, in 1910, in a place that used to be a lively shopping district of Le Grand-Bornand. The mural, created for the “Au Bonheur des Mômes” Festival, is a tribute to the old forgotten trades of our valleys, with cows representing the arts and crafts.

One of the most photographed works on the trail, due in particular to the scenic effect created by the distinctive onion dome church and the Aravis mountain range in the background, this metal sculpture is a product of Brigitte Baud-Perrier’s imagination and is dedicated to her cousin. She also designed another installation, which can be seen at Melan Charterhouse.

Chemin de la Forclaz

This other mural is a sepia-tinted tribute to its location: a building belonging to a family in the village that produced three generations of shoemakers and tanners. Located a stone’s throw from the “Café des Artistes” and the “Circus of Forgotten Trades” mural, it brings new life to this secret part of the village.

Below the Place de l’église

An explosion of colours, curves and rhythms, this cheerful Iberian mural is a reflection of Catalonia, the guest of honour at the “Au Bonheur des Mômes” festival in 2009. Created by more than 440 painters, it is a tribute to various amazing Catalan artists: Picasso, Miró, Gaudí and Dalí.

Right in the middle of a comic strip panel, we find ourselves stuck between these two rather clumsy herds of cows, accompanying these friendly ruminants on their amusing expedition. It isn’t easy for a cow to go downstairs, but fortunately, their creator has thought to give them crampon shoes!

A cow created with method and technology. The pupils of the vocational school of Le Chablais specialise in metalworking. Producing this work required them to show a great deal of imagination and accuracy, and they passed the test with flying colours!

Bus station

The theme of this monumental mural is a reference to the “Golden Calf” from the Bible. Our calf, sleeping peacefully, has become the admired icon for all kinds of animals, from all over the world. All gazes are drawn to this little calf pictured, shaped like a round cheese, and they all seem to consider him as a god.

The Breton cows are dancing with their Savoyard sisters. This mural embodies the twinning between Quiberon (Brittany) and Le Grand-Bornand, and emphasises the friendship between the two resorts. Located beneath the ship’s anchor donated by the town of Quiberon, this artwork celebrates the sharing of cultures.

This series of 4 “totem” sculptures was designed by chef and sculptor Thierry Thorens, a fan of recup art and the creative behind countless pieces that you can see near his La Chamade restaurant in Morzine.

From a distance, it looks so realistic that you’d think it would run away the closer you get. But actually Barbotine, a cow sculpture carved into a tree trunk by Aosta Valley artist Siro Viérin, gazes placidly at us. Firmly positioned, strong and unwavering, Margaret, the queen of our pastures has the place of honour at the entry to the village, standing in front of two traditional Le Grand-Bornand chalets. This sculpture was made by former shipyard workers as part of a return to work scheme by the GASPAR association.

Full of curves and colours, the Cartoon Cow enjoys a break on the edge of the Borne river, facing the Aravis Mountains. This humorous, offbeat cow set in a natural environment is a nice, unexpected sight for walkers.

Coming from a foreign land, this cow made from pebbles embodies the meeting between sea and mountain. Le Grand-Bornand is twinned with the seaside town of Quiberon (Morbihan, Brittany), where you can find the twin sister of our “Blue-Eyed Cow” on Place du Varquez.

This cow made of wood and other recycled objects welcomes us in the entrance hall at the Espace Grand-Bo. An assembly of sundry elements of Alpine life, including tools from our grandfathers’ workshops or our grandmothers’ kitchen utensils.

This sculpture is entirely made from driftwood collected in the River Borne that runs through Le Grand-Bornand. The wood has kept its smooth, polished appearance after a long dip in the lakes and rivers of Savoie. The artwork was created for the first edition of the “Fabulous Village” Festival which was held in Evian-Les-Bains in December 2007.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the famous “Tour de France” cycling competition, this cow was created to welcome the racing cyclists at their arrival in Le Grand-Bornand, a stopover town on 19th July 2013. The kings of cycling were therefore fittingly greeted by the queen of our mountains.

A former goat farmer, the artist Pierre-Louis Chippon has moved into the field of animal and human sculpture, using mainly old farm tools. An intricate, detailed artwork made from salvaged materials, this cow has pride of place in front of the Heritage House and gives a second life to these obsolete tools.

Straddling a sled, this artwork is made of pieces of metal salvaged from the canton’s recycling centres and was made for the “Au Bonheur des Mômes” festival. Quebec was the guest of honour at this 23rd edition, and the artwork celebrates the friendship between Le Grand-Bornand and Sévrier in Haute-Savoie, and Lac Beauport in Quebec.

THE RUMIN-MAN

A half-man, half-bull creature inspired by the American rapper Eminem’s cover album. This spray-painted mural symbolises the encounter between man and beast, against a backdrop of illegal gaming houses and he-men. The technique used by the artist is spray painting, on a concrete wall measuring two metres by eight.

“Death to cows, death to idiots!” As a committed act, this sculpture aims to pass on to future generations the idea of struggling to break taboos (as was the case in France in 1968). The message advocates non-violence. It is repression “at rest”, looking peacefully at the protest.
