Te iish was ounded by maste collecto Nicolaas Posthumus (1880-1960) in the 1930s. Fo the past decade,two o the institutes established by this histo y ent ep eneu have ope ated om the same p emises: the neha (Nethe lands Economic Histo y A chive) since 1914 and the Inte national Institute o Social Histo y ( iish ),

which is now seventy yea s old. Both institutes a e still collecting, although the subsidia y iish has g own a la ge than the pa ent neha . Hij was ook niet genteresseerd in het grote nieuws. Liever maaktehij het leuke, niks bijzondere, gewone nieuws: brandjes en ongelukken, sport en het Koninklijk Huisnaast een stortvloed aan muziek- en lmhelden. Juist door zijn gebrek aan pretentie, zijn ongecom-pliceerde, pragmatische opvatting van het vak vrije jongen in de jaren vijftig en zestig van de vorigeeeuw geven zijn fotos een fraai beeld van een land waarin eenvoud en gezelligheid heerste engewoon doen nog in de mode was.
