MIS 301 Project Aug 2013 – Dec 2013
She worked in a small team of 4 throughout the semester to create an application for the University of Dayton.
The University wanted to create an App for graduating seniors to use to help them find jobs. This project was something the University actually wanted to produce, so Olivia and her team want to do careful research and data gathering.
The information from the job search was to be provided by the government issued website: www.careerinfonet.org.
Olivia and her team reached out to a small business, Designli.co, who had already created many Apps to get research and information.
Working with Designli.co, Olivia’s team’s “contractor”, they were able to get realistic data on how much it would cost to build the App and how long it would take to create and support the App.
Who Olivia’s team needed on the project: Hire 1 Project Manager 3 User Interface/Graphic Designers 100 Developers – Developers work in 10 teams of 10
Cost for the project: Graphics: $2,000 Backend Development: $8,500
Total of $10,500 for project Time frame given by contractor, Designli.com:
2-3 weeks for graphic design 2-3 months for backend development
This project gave Olivia an inside look at what it is like to work in a team on a project where they needed to contact/work with others outside of the team she was assigned. It helped her with time management, because she had to set up meeting times with the team, while also finding time to contact the contractors to get information about the App. She also had to communicate with her professor, who in this scenario was the business side of the project. After a whole semester of collecting research, Olivia and her team had to present their findings and information to the class and her professor.
Chi Omega Fraternity Nov 2011 – Nov 2012
Director of Social Events In this role she was in charge of putting together social events with our organization, which included 150
to 350 guests. For these events she had to work with an allocated budget to find a venue large enough for the
group, food to cater our event, and arrange transportation to and from the event. Usually 5-6 events per college semester. A majority of the events were with other organizations on
campus. She worked with other event chairs to put on events, while also following all the University’s policies and procedures.
She kept her organization in good standing with the University by communicating with them to make sure the events were approved and that all risk management procedures were being followed.
She was the Liaison between the executive board (12 women and 1 advisor), The chapter of 150 women, and the University of Dayton.
