Members of the Offensive Line and Linebackers as well as Assistant Coaches and Administrators from the University Of Pittsburgh Football Team made a first time ever visit with the resident veterans at the DMVA Southwestern Veterans Center on Good Friday, April 14, 2017.
On April 14, 2017, the Southwestern Veterans Center was visited by members of the University of Pittsburgh Football team. They did not come with all the team but the Pittsburgh Football team was well represented. The staff and residents had time to talk with the team and I had a feeling of honor that they were here. These young men were well mannered and re-spectful to all that they talked with and it seemed that the University of Pitts-burgh Football players and residents enjoyed the visit. I also found out what H2P means….it means Hail to Pitt! (Autographs below) James Morris, Resident
The 19th Annual Volunteer Recognition dinner at the Southwestern Veterans Center was an electric evening of recognizing all volunteers for their unselfish volunteerism to our nations heroes. We honor volunteers here and all over the USA for giving back to the communities in which they live and serve!! The vol-unteers were given gifts bags as well as dinner and refreshments. The Colors were honored by the Vietnam Veterans Incorporated and some of the guest or-ganizations included the Marine Corps League, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled Veterans, American Legion, VFW, Sharing and Caring, Rolling Thunder, Jewish War Veterans and others. The Honored guests were County Councilman and U.S. Marine Veteran Samuel DeMarco III, who gave every vol-unteer in attendance a certificate, and Legislator Ed Gaineys Chief of Staff Melvin Hubbard El. Our volunteer of the year was Shirley Griffin who has faith-fully served the resident veterans here since 2009.
