2 May 2014 Summer Term: No 2 Tel 01737 354541 email: [email protected] Website: www.tadworthps.surrey.sch.uk Tadworth Tigers End Successful Season Last Saturday saw Tadworth Tigers U10 (Yr 5) and U9 (Yr 4) teams compete in the annual end-of-season tournament run by the South Surrey Youth Football League (SSYFL). Both teams performed very well and finished runners up in their respective competitions to end successful seasons on a high note. In the morning, the U10s won two and lost one match, while the afternoon saw the U9s unbeaten; winning four and drawing two of their matches. In addition to playing well, all of the players conducted themselves with credit both on and off the pitch. Our U10 team also finished runners up in their league having won seven and drawn one of their 12 games. They were presented with their medals after the tournament on Saturday. The U9s also had a strong record, winning five and drawing one of their eight games. Football is flourishing at the school, with training taking place every Saturday morning at 9am during term time for each year from Reception to Year 6. The older years currently compete in the SSYFL providing the opportunity for matches against other clubs. The season finishes on 17 May with the traditional end-of-season presentation day. Should anyone wish to join the football on Saturday mornings, then please contact [email protected] who will be happy to put you in touch with the relevant contact. Tadworth Tigers Ofsted Inspection Report Today all registered parents of children in our school will receive a copy of our Ofsted report (either via e-mail or hard copy if we do not have an e-mail address for you). If, for whatever reason this doesn’t reach you, then please contact Mrs Marshall in Reception. The report should also be available from www.ofsted.gov.uk by Wednesday next week. May ‘Value of the month’ - CITIZENSHIP A school receptionist notices that a member of staff has left their car lights on; a boy spots lier on the playground and puts it in the bin; a young girl completes a sponsored swim for a cancer charity; a woman decides to start a neighbourhood watch scheme because she has heard that thieves are targeting her street; or a man stands for the local council. What do these all have in com- mon? They are all examples of Citizenship: our value of the month for May. If the school is to function well, we will all need to play our part as good citizens. It’s about helping to make our tiny part of the world: our family, our school, our friendships that bit beer. We won’t stand for the local council (not for a few years), or start a neighbourhood watch scheme (that’s for grown- ups), but we can play our part, however small it seems, by taking responsibility for our lives and those around us. A good citizen does not say, ‘I didn’t make the mess, I won’t clear it up,’ but is glad to help out when the class needs to be tidied. A good citizen notices when someone is hurt and takes them to get help. A good citizen speaks out when someone is being unfairly treated, even when they don’t need to. A good citizen takes an interest in life and the people around them and is always asking, ‘Is there anything I can do to help?’ Schools are great places to practise these skills. It’s not about being nosey, or bossy or showing off; but it is about asking the question, ‘How would I like to be treated in this situation?’ and making sure you treat the person, or group in a way that is kind and loving. It’s even doing stuff, when no one notices, just because you believe it’s the right thing to do, and even if no one notices, you will know you have done your bit to make your world just that bit beer. If we all join in, then we are all the richer. NP BANSTEAD FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT : This week, the school entered teams from Years 2—5 in football tournaments at Banstead Junior School.
