BOWLED OVERIf, like me, you love the knittingbowls, but find them a bit pricey…make your own. I used KirstieMcLeod’s pattern from January’sfree booklet. I used Life Chunkybut you could just use two spare100g balls of DK wool together tomake up the thickness. I used anine-inch diameter plastic cakecontainer for the bowl and did arow of running stitches under thetop cuff to stop it slipping down.Iteasily holds a 100g ball of wool.

available from our back issuesservice. Visit myfavouritemagazines.co.uk or call 0844 8482852 to order a copy.

TERRIFIC TOYSYou have made my life harder, butin a happy way, because I am anOAP and have to buy SimplyKnitting every month for my sisterPenny, who lives in Portugal. Ipost it to her and she knits the toypattern within hours of receivingthe magazine. Some of her toysare in this photo – taken before wefound Simply Knitting.

I don’t knit much myself, justthe occasional plain and purl.(Wish you had the occasionalvintage jacket or cardigan.)Jacky Thorne, BirminghamYour sister’s going to love thismonth’s Hippie Hamsters, I

think, Jacky! There are five tomake, plus she can inventmore of her own.

We tend to print modernpatterns in Simply Knitting, but our sister magazine TheKnitter occasionally featuresvintage designs or ones withvintage inspirations – visittheknitter.co.uk to see what’sin their current issue. We are sorry, but we are unable toprovide information about whereJacky’s sister’s patterns come from.

CABIN FEVERHere is the log cabin throw that Iknitted from your February 2011issue. I changed the colours to suitmydécorandtheresult is fabulous. This is not the only project I havedone in the past year. My sister, afriend and I knitted a blanket forRefuge and took it to the Knitting& Stitching Show at AlexandraPalace last October.Shirley King, Salisbury
