OFFICIAL 2015-2016 SEASON SPONSOR

Welcome to the 72nd season of your Springfield Symphony Orchestra! This year we continue to serve you the best live music in Western MA. We have that winning combination of the world’s best-loved favorites by Beethoven, Brahms, Grieg, Dvořák, Mozart, Haydn, Gershwin, Saint-Saëns and Copland, and incredible music by less frequently heard composers such as Bartók, Sibelius, Fauré, Händel, and Nielsen – plus, the world premiere of a new piano concerto! The violin sensation Philippe Quint and international pianist John Novacek, as well as Longmeadow native Griffin McMahon make their SSO debuts; SSO Principal Trumpet Tom Bergeron steps in front of the orchestra to solo; and returning guest artists Claire Huangci and Jeffrey Biegel bring their incomparable artistry back to Symphony Hall. The celebration of Black History Month takes place in February with the Concert Suite version of Gershwin’s beloved Porgy and Bess featuring an amazing cast of vocal soloists. We are thrilled to welcome Avery Brooks, iconic actor of stage and screen, who will bring his talents to Springfield by narrating the moving words of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in New Morning for the World. Our Pops Series has the classic rock sounds of The Music of Journey, the Rat Pack cool of ‘Ole Blue Eyes, the great family tradition that is our Holiday Pops concert, and a tribute to the genius that is John Williams. Combining old and new, beloved and thought-provoking…that’s your SSO… making music live! Kind regards,

Kevin RhodesSSO Music Director and Conductor

DEAR FRIENDS & PATRONS OF THE SSO,You are the reason we continue to dedicate ourselves to bringing outstanding classical and popular music to the Pioneer Valley. Our team of outstanding volunteers, our dedicated and caring staff, and the excellent orchestra led by our own Maestro Kevin Rhodes all continue to exceed our expectations in serving you. And, you will continue to be our focus in the years ahead. Your continued and active support is vital to the success of our mission. Purchasing subscriptions and concert tickets help immensely, as do the generous contributions you have bestowed upon us. The greater Springfield community is important to all of us. For our part, we believe that music is a foundation of learning and we are proud of the accomplishments of our educational programs and Youth Concerts. Our outstanding Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestra also demonstrates how our young people are growing in their musical talents, and gaining skills that will last a lifetime. We know that, with you, we will never fail. And we want to thank you for your continued generous support.Best regards,
