On your mark, get set, go! Let the Holiday frenzy begin! Even though Santa was popping up all over the place after Labor Day,

we all know that November is really when the credit cards become like another appendage and our stress levels begin their annual rollercoaster ride. While nothing is better than spending time with friends and family, getting to that point can leave us all a bit exhausted.

I would like to be one of the fi rst to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving and an even happier Black Friday! This year I would like to challenge you, as you’re waking with the moon to hit the early sales, to keep your dollars local. O’Fallon has a ton of great retail outlets, from Big Box stores like Wal-Mart, Lowe’s and the Shoppes at Laura Hill to smaller, more intimate shops like the Crown Jewel, Pizzazz Gifts, LOOK! Shops, Mozingo Music or Main Street Marketplace just to name a few. And those are just retail shops. If you attended last month’s Morning Schmooze, you’ll know that the St. Charles County Art Council, located in WingHaven, has a boutique full of great works from local artists. Have you thought about giving a beautiful fl oral arrangement from one of our fl orists, a great watch or bracelet from one of our amazing jewelers? I would guess that almost everything on your Holiday Shopping list can be found in O’Fallon.

According to the 3/50 Project (www.the350project.net), for every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. Spend it online and nothing comes home.

Check out the full list of Chamber Members at ofallonchamber.org/member-directory or simply call the offi ce staff to fi nd where you can get your next great gift!

Until next time, wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving,

Cindy ElkingChairman of the Board

HELP SUPPORT THE 2012 TOY TOWN THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

his holiday season the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Salvation Army-O’Fallon to help promote and collect donations for the 2012 Toy Town held at

O’Fallon City Hall.

Toy Town will help many families in St. Charles County who are struggling to provide Christmas toys for their children. Each year Toy Town collects toys, clothes and other necessities from local drives, in order to provide gifts for children and seniors in the western St. Charles County area. Families who qualify within a certain income bracket register in November, and are allowed to come shop for gifts for their children at no cost. Each family is allowed to choose one large gift, two small and something from the puzzle, games and clothing tables.

Volunteers are needed on December 10th through the 13th, anytime from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. to help set up, assist clients with shopping, and take down of our Annual Christmas Toy Town. Help is also needed in providing refreshments and wrapping gifts.

New toys of $20 or more can be dropped off at the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce or the O’Fallon Salvation Army anytime between now and December 8, 2012. We’ll also be collecting items at the November 27th General membership Meeting.

Contact Sam at 636-240-1818 or [email protected] for more information.

“KEEP IT IN THE O’” THIS HOLIDAY SEASONCONTINUED FROM COVERCONTINUED FROM COVERYou Don’t Have to Travel FarBy shopping local you don’t have to travel far, and contrary to popular belief North O’Fallon and South O’Fallon are not that far apart. All neighborhoods of our City have unique stores hidden in them and they are right down the street from your home or work place.

Non-profi ts Receive Greater SupportSt. Charles County non-profi ts receive a large percent of their revenue from business contributions. Your support of local businesses helps to ensure that they are able to continue their giving to our local charities and in turn make our community stronger. Your own charitable gifts to local non-profi ts are a means of spending locally to keep those donations in O’Fallon.

Personalized ExperienceShopping at small local businesses always offers a personal and sincere customer-owner interaction. Small business shop owners are interested in their clients, know their wants and needs, and are willing to give their customer personal attention to answer questions about their products. A small business owner is linked to the success of his or her business, which means they are experts on the product that they create and sell.

Improve Your Local Economy and Enrich Your CommunityNobody wants to live in a neighborhood that lacks a small business culture. When you shop, dine and play in O’Fallon, your purchases provide sales tax revenue to O’Fallon. These sales taxes pay for O’Fallon’s police department, civic services, parks and much more.

Original, Handmade GiftsAt small local shops you can fi nd some great unique items that aren’t available at other stores. If you like to give original, handmade gifts, you can’t beat shopping at a locally owned business.

If you can’t commit to spending your entire holiday budget locally, commit to just one day! Small Business Saturday is November 24th. If we could all commit to at least one day of purchasing from local small businesses then we could really make a difference in our communities. Below is a list of locally owned Chamber members that would be happy to help you select the perfect gift.
