The Egyptian Theatre Preservation Association Newsletter October - November 2014 From the Director’s Chair by Kara Long, Executive Director What a great summer and early fall! The outpouring of love for the Egyptian Theatre continues with hundreds of people attending events and movies. We hosted the Country Music Showdown Oregon State finals on September 13th. A group from Corvallis, the Grange Hall Drifters, won the event and will be representing Oregon in the regional finals also to be held at the Egyptian Theatre on November 15th. If you are a fan of country music, make sure you come cheer on the band representing Oregon to advance to Nashville. On other live music notes, we hosted three rounds of the Bay Area Teen Idol competition and Music on the Bay's, Music in the Park show on September 23rd due to rain. The Kyle Rowland Blues Band rocked the house with more than 350 people enjoying this free concert. In August we lost two movie stars: Robin Williams and Lauren Bacall. The attendance for the screening of Mrs. Doubtfire and The Birdcage starring Robin Williams and The Big Sleep starring Lauren Bacall, were well received and attended. Laughter filled the Egyptian with folks remembering Robin Williams. In October, we will have a Pink Out Weekend to bring awareness to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We encourage folks to wear pink for our two showings of The Pink Panther (1963) and then again for The Pink Panther (2006). Our showing of The Pink Panther (2006) for families is a sponsored show by 7 Devils Brew- ing Company and admission will be donations to the American Cancer Society. Wear your pink and help raise awareness while having a great time at the movies. October will also feature some classic horror films: The Blob (1958), The Mummy (1932), the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters (1984) and a remastered version of Halloween (1978). A couple of traditions will be returning to the Egyptian this holiday season, as well as new traditions. SANTA IS COMING!! On Friday, November 28th, he will be returning to the Egyptian Theatre. He will be followed by a screening of the holiday family comedy Elf. On Saturday, Novermber 29th, we will be broadcasting the Uni- versity of Oregon-Oregon State University civil war football game. On December 13th we will have “The Sounds of Christmas” concert with Lee Littlefield on the Mighty Wurlitzer and Wilbur Jensen with the Christmas Brass. We will also host the North Bend High School Band's Winter Concert on December 18th. November and December will be filled with holiday cheer this year. On a personal note, Steve and I are settling in wonderfully with thanks to all of you. The com- munity has been so welcoming to us and this really feels like home to us after such a short time here. It feels as if we have been friends with all of you for years. We both thank you for such kindness and friendship. The Grange Hall Drifters Kyle Rowland Blues Band
