PRESIDENT’S REPORT Welcome to the October newsletter 2017
Back on the bench after a wonderful 5 weeks holiday in Europe. Thanks to Ben our Vice
President for filling in as President for me at the September meeting, great job Ben.
Nationals 2019 is going on track smoothly, our next meeting is coming up.
More discussion about another home for our club trailer has not got us any further, so if
anyone is willing to give the trailer a home under cover please contact the committee.
With this nice weather upon us it's time to get those beasts out of the winter sheds and
come on some club events.
Last weekend we had our run to Berri to catch up with the Riverland members. We had a
street show-n-shine on the Saturday, with a great turn out of Riverland cars and 8 cars from
Adelaide. Couldn't have asked for better weather for the weekend either. We stayed at The
Big River Motel as we have done on previous occasions. A few drinks later in the afternoon,
dinner, and plenty of laughs, a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. Thanks to all those who put
it altogether at their end.
Next month is our Display day at Wigley Reserve, hope to see you all there.
Regards
John Walters
President

“FALCON GT & GTHO The Total Performance Years”
Mr Ed............................................
First of all, thank you to Gabby, Pete & Ben for each doing bits of my job while I was away on holidays last month, much appreciated guys. But after 5 weeks on the go every day around Europe, it’s nice to be home again & back to a normal relaxed retiree’s pace - well, as relaxed as this job will allow anyway.
We got home on the Thursday before the Bathurst 1000, so what better way to recuperate than spending 3 days in front of the goggle box watching the Blue Boys do their stuff. It all looked good until half way through race day, then it all started to unravel – the less said about the race from then on, the better..
After a couple of months out of the GT driver’s seat, the proposed Berri Weekend Run was greeted with great anticipation, & the weekend certainly lived up to expectations, apart from the fact that only 8 cars turned up for the run. Still, you can’t make people enjoys themselves if they don’t want to I guess. There’s a write-up & some pic’s of the weekend in this newsletter..
In addition to being Editor of this blurb, & Club Secretary, I also have the honour of Chairing the 2109 GT Nationals Committee, & it’s pleasing to say that we are making steady progress towards making it a very memorable event. We have the Jubilee & Goyder pavilions at the Adelaide Showgrounds booked for the Concourse, which will be a totally indoor event this time. The Morphettville Racecourse has been booked for the Presentation Dinner, which promises to be something special. And we have secured a Naming Rights Sponsor for the Nationals – details to be announced soon. Meanwhile, the work on many other aspects continues - it’s only 18 months to “show time”.
Looking ahead, we have our GT Display Day on 19th November at Wigley Reserve, the best location in town for a display. And we have our Xmas Poker Run & Lunch on 10th December, followed by our final club meeting of the year at Maughan Thiem Ford on Monday 11th December, hosted by the very generous Mike Perry.
Cannot believe that yet another year is rapidly drawing to a close already. See you at Display Day..
Cheers..
Hugh Westphalen Editor & Secretary

BERRI WEEKEND RUN – 14/10/17
This run came about as a result of liaison between the GT Club President John Walters & Riverland local GT
Club member Michael Stivitahris, & the enthusiasm of the local Ford dealer in Berri, Chris Sinko.
John had mentioned to Michael that he would like to do a Riverland Run again, as it had been some years
since the last one, so Michael got on to Chris, who jumped at the chance to have a Street Show-n-Shine
with a combination of local & GT Club cars who would make the trip from Adelaide for the weekend.
As we found out, Chris is a huge Ford fanatic, & before we knew it, he had arranged for the main street to
be closed off on Saturday morning & afternoon on the 14th of October, the local media were alerted to
what was going to happen, & the scene was set.
8 cars assembled at the now usual meeting point at OTR Bolivar on a beautiful Saturday morning, & off we
went. After a familiar mid-morning stop at the famous Waikerie Bakerie it was on to Berri where we met
Chris & joined up with the local contingent, making 34 cars in total. It was a nice tidy display with plenty of
variety to interest everyone, & both Chris & John were pleased with the roll-up. The GT Club sold a bit of
merchandise, & we also signed up a few new members. We were even graced with the presence of
Batman, who was obviously keeping a watchful eye on his all-black new Mustang which was on display.
By late afternoon, our thirst was starting to get very pressing, so as the crowd dwindled & locals made
their way home, we retreated to the comfort of the Big River Motel where we quickly relaxed into party
mode under the shade of the trees where the motel looks out over the very pretty Berri golf course. A few
hours later we staggered our way across the golf course to the Tavern where we enjoyed a nice meal, then
it was back to party time outside our rooms, as it was such a lovely evening.
Next morning there were a few sore heads, which were quickly cured by a big breakfast in the motel dining
room overlooking the beautiful golf course. Then, all too soon, it was back into the cars again, & heading
for home, completing a perfect weekend getaway.
