While it may not be happening here, it has been affecting many of our neighbors. Many people have only had a few minutes to grab some things and leave. Most of them forgot even their cell phones or their clothes because they needed something else more. There was one family who brought two cars and the Father took one kid and the Mother took the other two. As they were being directed out they got split up. Luckily for them they had their cell phones and were able to find each other again. But do you see what wildfires can do? They can split up a family. So we are coming together and starting a clothes drive for the wildfire victims. All you need to provide is 1 new outfit for the age group and gender you child brings home. The drive will start on October 3 rd and will go until October 17 th . All proceeds will go to KSBJ.

Reflections 2011-2012

It’s time for all Greentree students to start your creative juices flowing and have fun expressing yourself by entering the PTA Reflections Art program. All students who enter will be recognized for their participation and some entries may go on to district, state, or even national level. There will even be a party in the spring for all participants. This year’s deadline for turning in entries will be November 7th. Official RULES for each category are available in the Greentree office or online at www.txpta.org (go to resources, then to reflections participants). My School’s Cool Reward Program

A special community driven program, committed to building relationships with the local schools by providing CASH rewards for shopping at Deerbrook Mall. Schools compete with each other for the highest accumulation of points per student and earn CASH rewards. Greentree Elementary School will have the opportunity to receive cash rewards at the end of the program. There is one way for our school to earn points: Shop at Deerwood Mall. $20,000 Total School Rewards will be given in May

2012 Each dollar spent at the mall earns our school one point. Receipts will be rounded to the next whole dollar at .51cents. There will be opportunities to earn double points which will include double point retailers and double point shopping days. More information will be forthcoming in future memos. Points can be turned in either: Folder in the front office of Greentree Write GTE on back of receipts and drop in the designated locker (located between Barnes & Noble and Sears) that is assigned to GTE.

Way to Go Gators!!!! Did you know that Greentree has already earned $800 this year in Box Tops? Great Job Gators!!! Keep up the good work and you will see that money being used to purchase new P.E. equipment. All you have to do is trim down your box tops (if you can) and place them in a plastic baggie. Then, have your student place them in the big soup can in the front office and watch those box tops turn into big fun for our Greentree students.

Math Olympiads is back this year! We are opening the Math Olympiad Club to all 4th and 5th graders this year. Math Olympiad is a very challenging after school club that meets weekly for an hour. During the hour club members will explore a mathematical topic or strategy in depth, using creative problem solving, or they practice for the contest. To participate, we will require that students get their math teachers approval based on behavior and academics. If you are interested in participating this year, please return the bottom of this page to Ms. Hunt. -------------------------------------------

Dear Greentree Parents,

For the past 15 years, Texas Children’s Hospital has done a kids fun run to adopt active, healthy lifestyles. This year they will not have the run at their location due to the Olympic trials. Instead, the fun run will take place at our school during your child’s P.E. time. All students will participate in this great experience and get a time for their mile. This run is FREE and each student will also receive a fun run shirt (if we sign up in time). Please return bottom portion signed and give your child’s shirt size (YS, YM, YL, AS, M, L, XL). Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thank you

Tips for a Terrific start to getting healthy! 1. Challenge your Gator to a plank contest!!! We are working on our core strength and each day they come to our physical education class we are holding our plank up for one minute. We are still in the process of building up our strength and if this is new to you, don't get discouraged just try ten seconds at a time and work up to one minute! 2. October 3-7 is Create a Healthy Plate week! Try to make sure your plate is colorful and you are not eating too much! Ask your gator what the correct portion size is for the five different food groups. Dairy, Protein, Grains, Fruits and Vegetables!!! Every little bit of progress toward learning to be healthy will make a difference!
