MOG NW South September Social Meeting

The southern gang was whooping it up in the back of the Rock Creek Saloon

The juke box was playing - too loud some kept saying - a worn out sixties tune

When out of the night, to our delight, came Julian - long not seen

And with him a fellow enthusiast, a lady that's known as Eileen

The Hauges and Huntleys dug into the grub, while Malcomb sat sipping his brew

The Miles were there, also sampling the fare, Dwight and Wand would round out the crew

We were twelve in all, having a ball, together to laugh and discuss

The restoration of a boat-tailed Mog to the merits of a Plus 4 Plus

The landlord came over to pay his respects and to reflect on days gone by

It seems he once had two three-wheeled Mogs which he sold - now he wonders why

Soon checks did appear, we finished our beer and bid farewell to our team

Assured by the thought that we'll do it again on October seventeen

Poetic waxing is very taxing and plagiarism can make one nervous

I'm out of rhyme so I think its time - my apology to Robert Service

ALL BRITISH FIELD MEET

If every year you feel that the field meet can't be better than the year before, then you did not attend this years field meet.

Friday evening started with the usual gathering at the Red Lion. Mike Powley entered a photo with display of G.B. Stearns and a group of Morgans from his tour last summer in the photo contest and took home a 3rd place. Congratulations Mike, we all enjoyed the display. Saturday morning we met at Elmers for breakfast and as we were eating, the clouds broke up and the sun popped out to give us a beautiful day.

We had 25 Morgans represented at the field meet With 3 in the parking lot, this brought us to a total of 28. Each year we seem to be growing bigger with a great turnout of the Morgan. We had a wonderful catered lunch provided by the club and arranged by the Hauges. Lunch included chicken, cole slaw, rolls, pop & dessert.

After lunch we gathered for the Peoples Choice Awards presentation. They were as follows: Charles Farnsworth with his 1935 Morgan 3 wheeler took first place. Second place went to Rodger and Linda Huntley for their 1962 Drophead Coupe, and third place went to Davey and Trish Crockett for their lovely newly restored 1966 4/4 Roadster.

Saturday evening the Rock Creek Tavern provided a welcomed haven for our hungry and thirsty group. The food and libations were ha-humb-Robust!!! But best of all were the intermingling, tall stories from Idaho, British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon sources.

The evening tailed down in the motel Hot-Tub with a vocal rendition from Bob Adair.

All in all the party was a blast!!!! Many of us were up early on Sunday to attend the Swap Meet, before saying our farewells and heading for home. The entire weekend was another successful Morgan gathering.

Our many thanks and deep appreciation to Bob and Janis Hauge for putting together a spectacular event and leaving us with wonderful memories.

CARTOON SUBMITTED BY JEAN MacNEIL FOR ALL NEW PARENTS!

MINUTES OF THE THIRD QUARTERLY MEETING OF MOG-NW, Sept. 16, 1989 Held at Cammarano Brothers warehouse, Olympia, Washington

Attending were, Mike Miles, Rick Habedank, Dick and Nancy Dice, Jacque and Dennis Morrison, Linda and Rodger Huntley, Dave and Sharon Cammarano, Jean MacNeil, Heinz and Wanda Stromquist, Bob and Janis Hauge.

The meeting was called to order by President Bob Hauge at 10:35 a.m.

--The minutes from the second quarterly meeting were approved as printed in the newsletter.

--Jean MacNeil, Treasurer, reported a balance or $1,438.17 as of Sept. 16, with bills for the newsletter still to come in.

--Mike Miles reported on the current state of our regalia inventory. We have sold three-fourths of our stock, even the infamous purple sweatshirt; we can now fill back orders for Morgan rubber stamps; Mike bought up all the Portland 8th Annual All-British Field Meet pins (which honored Morgan) and now we can re-sell those; and generally we have done very well with sales. Mike asked for a decision as to whether he should order more stock, this time including some Morgan pins which he thinks would sell very well. We decided to postpone the discussion until later in the meeting when Pres. Bob planned to discuss club finances in general.

--Jacque Morrison reported that she is now printing 110 newsletters every month and in September she used every one of them. We will probably have to increase the number printed.

Old Business: --There was a question as to whether Bob Nelson has been sending reports to Miscellany about MOG-NW doings. Pres. Bob will remind him.

--Another question: did NOG-NW send in any information to "Manna" (a network of Morganeers to help each other with problems)? Answer: No. Individuals were urged to participate if they wish.

--Ken Hill's newest book will have MOG-NW club history, etc. as reported by Pres. Bob, and Mike Powley has sent in photos etc. as well. Heinz Stromquist has a copy of an earlier KH book which mentions Jacque Morrison.

--Dick Dice complimented the Hauges on their superb organization for the Portland All-Brit. The motel was a great place to stay, the food at noon was perfect, the drive to the tavern may have been slow (a slight Greeeeen problem) but 1~ke Cock was great. There should have been a newsletter report but it got lost in FAXland. See this issue (I hope) instead.

The Morrisons left, gracefully, to get their cat spayed.

New Business: --Plans for the Annual Banquet (Dec. 2 in Portland at the historic Heathman Hotel) are well under way, under the chairmanship of Jolene Bowman. More details will be coming. Members are urged to make reservations early if planning to stay at the Heathman.

--Pres. Bob began a discussion of MOG-NW activities and financial policies. We have been working under the new system for a year; how are things going? A general discussion Er-d, covering members' participation in events, the work involved and the cost of food for field meets, future plans for the Portland All-Brit (which may be changed by the Jaguar Club which has been organizing it), HOG-NW participation in three field meets in 1990 (Portland, Seattle and Vancouver BC) and how we can stretch our dollars and share the work load in order to support all three meets. Pros and cons were cited, with members in favor of club partici-pation in all three meets, splitting the funds available three ways according

to how much we can afford and is appropriate for each event. Each area can work out details of sharing the work load. Based on our experience from 1989, the group feels that in 1990 the Club needs to keep providing regalia items for sale at prices calculated to realize a modest profit, in order to be able to support these club events. Linda Huntley so moved, and the motion carried. It was pointed out that dues and an increasing membership also contribute to the treasury; we reach many new people through our participation in field meets.

--ScIduling of 1990 activities: we need to set the schedule as early as possible, and try not to bunch up activities so that some events get poor attendance. Pres. Bob will urge members to send in proposals and requested dates RIGHT NOW so that the new officers will have a good start on the calendar by the December banquet. Pres. Bob will begin a potential calendar of events, and any conflXicts over dates requested can be resolved by common sense and "jawboning". Next year's officers will decide on the number of events we can support and members can choose which and how many they can attend.

--Election procedures for 1990 officers: Pres. Bob feels that last year's proce-dure worked well -- having a nominating committee find candidates, then using a mail-in ballot. General discussion revealed that some members feel that one candidate per office is enough for a club like ours, especially since competition might foster resentment and lead to regional problems. Finally we agreed that a nominating committee will start the search for candidates, will not feel bound to find two candidates for each job, and will allow for write-in candidates on the mail-in ballot. Pres. Bob will check with Dave Sweeney who has been working on the Club By-Laws to see if any changes are needed. It was moved, seconded, and carried (MIS/C) that the President appoint a Nominating Committee for the 1990 slate of officers. It was further N/S/C that election will be by mail-in ballot. Dick Dice, for the Seattle and Vancouver BC areas, and Heinz Stromquist, for the Portland area ) were appointed. They will set the dates and take care of newsletter announcements. North and South Area Reps are chosen by those groups and are not elected formally. We will also think about Dave Cammarano's idea that we elect a Vice President who would move up to President automatically, as is done in many other groups. For now, the group prefers to stick with our present set-up.

--The Jaguar Club, which runs the Portland All-Brit, wants to award more People's Choice trophies, esp. to Morgan owners! Therefore they ask that we establish a class judging system, based on model, or age, or # of cylinders, or # of wheels, or whatever we think best. It was N/S/C to expand to three classes for judging at all meets, division to be established later after we think about it.

--Regalia: the inventory (see previous minutes item) needs a minimum re-stock in order to carry through the rest of the year. It was N/S/C to authorize Mike Miles to spend $400 to re-stock regalia inventory.

--Dave Cammarano suggested that the Club might establish a points system to reward members for attending club events. We could award a prize at the Annual Banquet to the member who accumulated the most points during the year. We decided to think about the idea.

ie meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m. and we went off to hunt for burgers and beers.

Respectfully submitted, Nancy Dice, Secretary, whose typewriter is misbehaving.

Questions I have as a result of summer activities: 1. Why are all RVs and trailers Wimpy White, Tedious Tan, or Crumby Cream? 2. Why does everybody cross the Sierras through Yosemite and Tioga Pass, instead of over the next highway north which has 26% grades and super scenery?

3. Why does the Rock Creek Tavern not serve dark beer?

HOLIDAY CELEBRATION

Well, I've got more news about our annual party. As

you know, this year we will experience a fabulous event at

the Heachman Hotel in the heart of Portland.

I was there recently and, as always, impressed with their

genuine care and attention to detail. £ like that, because we

are a special group and really deserve the best!

The hotel is really lovely. I'm not sure how old it is,

but it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Expect to receive a packet from the Heathman that will in-

clude a special reservation card to fill out if you choose to

stay there, Fred and I have thought it would be fun to stay

there sometime and pretend that we are tourists. The hotel is

offering us a discount on rooms. They have set aside a block of

rooms just for MOG NW. If you want to reserve before you re-

ceive the card, call 1-800-551-0011. I apologize to those of

you who tried a bit earlier and found that the hotel had not

yet prepared for our group for reservations. It is my fault,

as I was out-to-lunch, so-to-speak.

Next month, I'll have a map in the newsletter. It will

show both the hotel and the parking locations.

On Saturday Dec. 2nd, we'll begin the evening with a no-

host cocktail bar, upstairs at 630. Dinner will be served at

approxrnatelt 7:30. The dinner choices are:

Stuffed Chicken Breast Moutarde (with Beurre Blanc sauce)

Sczhuan Salmon (not spicy)

Roast Prime Ribs of Beef

All include the Heathman Salad, Coffee, Tea, and a Gelati or

Chocolate Torte for dessert. Please make your choices by Nov-

ember 15, and send your check to me, made payable to MOC NW.

The total cost of the meals is $27.00 per person.

I'm excited. it's a lovely spot or 'sc. We'll have a

chance to exchange gifts. The music will be great and we

can even end up by the fireside after dinner if we wish.

Please fill in the box, I'll keep track of who or-

ders what, that way you won't have to remember.
