The October meeting of the Pine Level Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society was held Wednesday

afternoon at the home of Mrs. Morris Wingard. A program on “Youth” was given, the principal feature

being a playlet, “We Must Not Fail,” with the following characters: Lela McGhee, Morris Wingard, Mae

Guice, Lois Alva McGhee, Sarah McCormick, Edna McCormick, Vivian Parker, and Evelyn McNeill.

The meeting was opened with a song, “Faith of Our Father,” followed by a devotional service conducted

by Mrs. Ray C. Guice. Others on the program were: Mrs. J. M. Townsend, Miss Guice Stevens, Mrs.

Eunice McGhee, and Alice Jewel Townsend and Mary Frances Guice, who gave a dialogue, “Talking

Across a Century.” The November meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Ray Guice, who will serve

both as hostess and program chairman. At the close of the program, a business session was held, after

which cake and hot chocolate were served by the hostess.

Quarterly conference will be held Thursday at Rehoboth church by the churches of the Ramer charge. The

LaPlace charge will hold quarterly conference at LaPlace Wednesday.

The Catoma Parent-Teacher Association will meet Monday night at the school auditorium. The guest

speaker will be Dr. W. R. Harrison, superintendent of schools. Hostesses will be Mrs. J. C. Whittle, Mrs.

Lewis Felder, Mrs. Edward Young, Mrs. J. H. Hall and Mrs. G. h. Warner.

The Snowdoun Woman’s Club held its monthly extension meeting Wednesday afternoon at the home of

Mrs. George Fiser. Mrs. H. G. Mashburn presided over a business session, in which Miss Eunice Ward,

county health nurse, was introduced and spoke to the club on some of the activities of the health

department and the program of the department for this year. Members of the club voted to invite Miss

Ward to speak monthly at the extension meetings. Mrs. Henry Stanley, club director, gave a

demonstration lesson in choosing one’s wardrobe. Twenty members and visitors were present. At the

close of the meeting the hostess served a salad plate.

The Pintlala boys 4-H Club has been reorganized with officers and members as follows: Reynolds Suggs,

president; Will Haden Norman, secretary-treasurer; Harding Huffman, reporter; Warren Bozeman, song

leader; Rawdon Barnes, Robert R. Beckwith, Thomas Chesnutt, Llewellyn Duggar, J. B. Davis, Nathan

Mrs. Mamie C. Thorington, county home demonstration agent, will have the following itinerary this

week: Monday, special meeting with a group of Dublin women; Tuesday, forenoon, Ramer junior 4-H

Club; afternoon, LaPine; Wednesday, Pike Road Woman’s Club; Thursday, forenoon, Pine Level 4-H

Club; afternoon, Smilietown Community Club; Friday, LeGrand Community Club; Saturday, office and

curb market.

The Pike Road Woman’s Club will meet Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. McClurkin with Mrs.

H. B. Fannin as assistant hostess.

The Smilietown Community Club will meet Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Carl Gardner, Mrs. James

Kirksey, Miss Milligan and Mrs. J. M. Chandler as hostesses. The club leaders will give a demonstration

lesson. Roll call will be answered with current events.

The Sellers Civic Club has announced the following hostesses for the year: November, Mrs. Desma

Brady; December, Mrs. J. D. Boyd; January, Mrs. Frank Morriss; February, Mrs. Will Guy; March, Mrs.

David Rufus Findley; April, Mrs. R. S. Hataway; May, Mrs. S. J. Guy; June, Mrs. Joe Scaife; July county

club rally; August, annual picnic; September, entire club. The monthly programs through March will be

demonstration lessons given by the leaders. In April the program will center around a discussion of

flowers, and roll call will be made the occasion for a flower exchange. In May, Mrs. Mamie C.

Thorington, county home agent, will give a book review and in June, the program will be on “Decorative

Objects in the Home.” At the November meeting, a special feature will be a talk by Miss Evelyn Brady on

the origin of Thanksgiving.

The Stones Woman’s Club met Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. C. L. Chanault in Maxwell Field. A

health talk was given by Miss Eunice Ward, county health nurse. Plans were made for a club exhibit at

the quilt show to be sponsored by the County Council of Home Demonstration Clubs on Oct. 24-25.

The Pinedale Fellowship Club met Friday night at Pinedale Chapel and made plans for a Halloween party

on Oct. 29. Joh Herndon presided. A social meeting was held after the business session.

The young people of Pinedale community gave a wiener roast Saturday night. Eula Bell Duncan and

Evelyn Hancock were in charge.

The Sellers Civic Club met Thursday afternoon at the clubhouse with Mrs. Frank Morriss as hostess. The

demonstration lesson in choosing a wardrobe was cleverly given in dialogue form by Mrs. J. D. Boyd,

Miss Evelyn Brady and Mrs. Noble. Miss Lillie Mae Findley presided during a business session in which

it was voted to give a brief period of each meeting for a health talk by Miss Eunice Ward, county health

nrse. Visitors were: Mrs. H. V. Bell, of Ada, Mrs. May and Mrs. Bedsole. During a social hour, a salad

plate was served by the hostess.

The Ramer Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society will meet Tuesday afternoon for the monthly Royal

Service program. Mrs. G. C. McDowell and Mrs. W. V. Neville will be hostesses and Mrs. Albert Jones

will be leader.

Etta B. Smith Chapter No. 290, Order of Eastern Star, at Ramer, met Wednesday afternoon and made

plans for sending official delegates to the Gran Chapter in Montgomery Oct. 15-17.

Mrs. T. B. Johnson of Georgiana celebrated her 81st birthday anniversary Sunday at the home of her

daughter. Mrs. Gene Boan (Ludie Johnson), in Pinedale, with a family reunion. Forty-one members of the

family were present, including her six children, Mrs. C. G. Freeman, of Pensacola, Mrs. R. G. Nall, of

Montgomery, of Montgomery, Mrs. D. W. Black, of Georgiana, Mrs. Acre Rigsby, of Georgiana, T. M.

Johnson, of Montgomery and Louisville, Ky. And Mrs. Boan. Mrs. Johnson was the recipient of many

birthday gifts.

The LeGrand Community Club will meet Friday afternoon.

The Montgomery County Council of Home Demonstration Clubs will hold a quilt exhibit in Montgomery

Thursday and Friday. Every club in the council will contribute to the exhibit, funds from which will be

used to create a scholarship loan fund for a Montgomery County girl. Admission will be 25 cents. The

exhibit will be held in the store building at the corner of Lee and Church Street.

The Fellowship Club of Pinedale has elected the following committee to make plans for a Halloween

party. Entertainment, John Herndon; Henry Turner, decorations; Evelyn Hancock, James Duncan,

Invitations; Annie Mae Duncan, Billy Jones; refreshments, Eula Bell Duncan, Elizabeth Jones, Katherine

Simpson.

The meeting of the Chesser Community Club has been postponed until Oct. 30 because of the quilt show.

Mrs. Jesse R. Paulk will be hostess.

The annual homecoming will be held at Mt. Carmel Methodist Episcopal Church Sunday, Oct. 27.

The Ramer B. Y. P. U. members were entertained at a wiener roast Thursday night by Mark H. Kennick,

leader. New officers have been elected as follows by the organization: Edna Connaly, president; Prayor

Cosby, vice-president; Martha Helen Brooks, secretary-treasurer; Frances Connally and Loretta Kennick,

group captains; Marjorie Cherry, pianist. There are 16 members on roll.

Etta B. Smith Chapter No. 290, Order of Eastern Star at Ramer was represented at the Grand Chapter in

Montgomery last week by the following: Mrs. Mattie Brooks, Mrs. Pauline Curtis, Mrs. Corrie Schmidt,

Miss Margaret Schmidt, Mrs. Martha Benbow and R. C. Daniel.

The Dramatic Club of Montgomery County High School has elected the following officer: Bannie

Dillard, president; Mary Sue Cannon, secretary; Ben Wilson, treasurer.

The Pinedale Fellowship Club met on Friday night at the home of Elizabeth Jones. A program was given

with Eula Bell Duncan in charge. Afterwards a social meeting was held and refreshments served.

The Round Table Club of Grady will meet Oct. 30 with Mrs. Jimmie Tucker as hostess. A program on

transportation will be given and roll call will be answered with current events relating to transportation.

Mrs. M. M. Tucker will give a paper, and Mrs. Whit Athey will head a round table discussion. The

hostess will direct a social program.

The Pike Road P. T. A. will meet on Monday night at the school auditorium. J. H. Alley president of the

Montgomery Safety Council and A. B. Dillard of Mathews will be the speakers. Miss Josephine Gowan, a

member of the Senior class will also be on the program. Miss Blanche Rollins will direct the singing.

The monthly social meeting of the Pinedale Civic Club is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the home of

Mrs. I. E. Kendrick, with Mrs. Cecil Eagerton as director. The theme of the program will be “American

Education” and roll call will be responded to with “My First School.”

The Stones Civic Club has postponed its monthly demonstration meeting until Nov. 1 because of the quilt

show. The meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Lightfoot on the old Selma Road Response to roll

call will be made by naming a favorite magazine.

The Parent-Teacher Association of the Catoma Junior High School held its monthly meeting Monday

night at the school with Mrs. I. C. Whittle presiding. During the business session reports were heard from

Mrs. C. H. Warner, secretary; Edward Young, treasurer and Mrs. Mark Revelle, magazine chairman. Miss

Eunice Ward of the county health department urged the parents to cooperate with the health program. The

business meeting was followed by a talk by Dr. W. R. Harrison, superintendent of schools, who had as his

subject “The Purpose of Schools.” After the meeting a reception was held the faculty members being the

honor guests. Hostesses were Mrs. I. C. Whittle, Mrs. J. H. Hall, Mrs. C. H. Warner, Mrs. L. C. Felder

and Mrs. Howard Young.

The Capitol Heights Fellowship Club will give a program at Pinedale Chapel Sunday night under the

auspices of the Pinedale Fellowship Club.

The Ramer Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. V.

Neville. A program on “Youth Uplifting the Banner” was given with Mrs. Albert Jones as leader. Taking

part on the program were Mrs. Mark Kennick, Mrs. M. J. Cowles and Mrs. G. L. Cherry. Miss Agatha

Massey represented the girl of a century ago and Miss Frances Connaly represented the girl of today.

Refreshments were served by the hostesses Mrs. Neville and Mrs. G. C. McDowell.

The Ramer Parent Teacher Association and the Senior Class of the Montgomery County High School will

sponsor a Halloween party at the school on the night of Oct. 30. The Senior Class will entertain with a

floor show in the auditorium, music by the glee club, sideshow and games for the small children. Member

of the P.T.A. will serve oyster and chicken suppers beginning at 6:30 p.m. Miss Mary Virginia Elgin will

be charge of the entertainment. Miss Julia Carter will be menu chairman and Mrs. A. D. Cowles, Mrs. M.

H. Kennick and Mrs. G. L. Cherry will have charge of the tables.

The LaPine Civic Club was reorganized Tuesday afternoon with officers as follows: Miss Annie Lou

Spear, president; Mrs. Velma Grissett, first vice-president; Mrs. T. L. Dennis, second vice-president; Mrs.

J. P. Ruff, secretary. Meetings will be held monthly on the third Tuesday afternoon.

A girls’ point system club has been organized at Montgomery County High School with officers as

follows: Ruth Amason, president; Elsie Jackson, vice-president; Myrtle Wingard, secretary; Elizabeth

Carter, treasurer; Miss Bunah Mae Sellers, faculty adviser.

The Smilietown Community Club met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Miss Ethel Milligan with Mrs.

H. C. Gardner, Mrs. James Kirksey, and Mrs. J. M. Chandler as assistant hostesses. Mrs. Gardner and

Mrs. W. W. Payne presented a clever dialogue illustrating how to choose one’s wardrobe. Roll call was

answered with current events.

The Pike Road Woman’s Club met on Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. McClurkin, with Mrs.

H. B. Fannin as joint hostesses. Mrs. Horace Sullivan, club director, presented the demonstration lesson.

\The Ramer Civic Club will meet on Tuesday afternoon at the Teachers Home, with Mrs. W. D. Smith,

Mrs. W. V. Neville and Mrs. G. H. Dyal at joint hostesses. The club directors will be in charge of the

program. Response to roll call will be an idea gleaned from a previous demonstration less or a current

event.

Mrs. Mamie C. Thorington, county home demonstration agent, will have the following itinerary this

week: Monday, office; Tuesday, Ramer Civic Club; Wednesday, special work in preparation for quilt

exhibit; Thursday and Friday, quilt exhibit; Saturday, office and curb market.

The Ramer Methodist Woman’s Missionary Society held its monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Ada

Gray. Preceding the mission program, a business session was held with Mrs. W. U. Turnipseed presiding.

Reports were heard from officers and a special announcement was made by the publicity superintendent,

Mrs. J. C. Sellers, of a week of prayer special for the next meeting with its four objectives. Mrs. W. D.

Smith and Mrs. M. E. Hill were announced as the November hostesses, the meeting to be held at the

Teachers’ Home, with Mrs. C. E. Rushing as leader. Mrs. P. H. Harris will care for the church during the

next month. Misses Frances Porter, and Mary Virginia Elgin were received as new members. Mrs. W. D.

Smith directed the mission program. The devotional was led by Miss Porter and Miss Sara Pattillo and

Miss Elgin talked on the missionary problems and work in Korea. During the social period, the hostess

assisted by Miss Ruth Oray served a salad plate.

The Grady Parent Teacher Association will hold its monthly meeting Thursday night.

The Dublin Community Club held its monthly demonstration meeting Friday afternoon at the Dublin

church with 25 members and visitors present. Preceding the business meeting, Miss Eunice Ward, county

health nurse, gave a history of the State and County health departments and their present programs. Mrs.

Rufus Fannin presided and appointed the following chairmen of objectives0; Mrs. Bill Ray, Farm Bureau

and cooperative marketing; Mrs. C. E. Rushing, scholarship; Mrs. J. H. Neugent, citizenship; Mrs. E. E.

Huffman, membership; Miss Beatrice Hicks was appointed reporter. The roll was called by the secretary,

Miss Mary Houlton, and response was made with current events. Mrs. Mamie Thorington, county home

agent, gave a report on the recent quilt exhibit held by the county council. Following the business session,

Mrs. H. C. Gardner, president of the Smilietown Club and Mrs. W. W. Payne gave a dialogue illustrating

the lesson in “Choosing a Wardrobe.” New members were enrolled as follows: Mrs. Edward Wilhoite,

Mrs. A. L. Bigger, Jr., Mrs. W. M. Mills, Mrs. C. E. Mills, Mrs. Bill Ray, Mrs. Rob Newman. Mrs.

Bigger was appointed hostess for the December meeting which will be held at the church.

The monthly leadership school for directors of county home demonstration clubs will be held Monday at

10 a.m. at the administration building of the Department of Education on South Lawrence Street. Miss

Dorothy Dean of Auburn will teach a lesson on textiles.

The Junior Woman’s Club of Hope Hull will meet Friday afternoon with Miss Sue Jones, adviser, in

charge.

The Pine Level Methodist Woman’s Missionary Society will meet Nov. 12 at the church for the monthly

business and mission program.

Preaching services will be held at Pine Level Methodist Church Nov. 10.

The Mt. Zion B. Y. P. U. was entertained Thursday night by Miss Erlene Paulk at her home at Chesser.

Games and contests furnished diversion. Iced coffee and cake were served.

The Round Table Club of Grady will meet Nov 20 the hostess to be announced. A Thanksgiving program

will be arranged. Response to roll call will be a Thanksgiving verse from the Bible.

The Friendship Singers Club met Saturday night at the home of W. C. Jackson near Center Point.

Newly-elected officers of the Ramer Chapter Future Home Makers of America are: President, Sara Davis;

vice president, Myrtle Nolan; secretary, Lula Frye; treasurer, Early Neal; reporter, Laura Hill Guy.

Montgomery County was represented at the district home demonstration meeting at Monroeville Tuesday

by Mrs. J. W. Sellers, of Ramer, president of the county council; Mrs. C. L. Chenault, of Maxwell Field,

chairman of the citizenship objective; Mrs. Rhodes Hughes, of Pinedale, substituting for Mrs. James

McInnis, chairman of the scholarship objective; Mrs. Owen Green, of Snowdoun, substituting for Mrs. r.

B. Glass, chairman of the Farm Bureau and co-operative marketing objective, and Mrs. Mamie C.

Thorington, county home agent.

R. L. Long, Mrs. Z. P. Gordon, Mrs. C. B. Thames, Mrs. W. L. Lamar.

The Pinedale Civic Club will meet Nov. 12 with Mrs James McInnis as hostess. The club leaders will

present the demonstration lesson. Current events will be the answer to roll call.

The Chesser Community Club met Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. R. Paulk, with Miss

Erlene Paulk as hostess. A demonstration lesson on the quilt exhibit given recently by the county council

was also a feature of the meeting.

week: Monday, leadership school; Tuesday, Pike Road senior and junior 4-H Clubs; Wednesday, Ramer

The Woman’s Auxiliary of Providence Presbyterian Church will meet on Nov. 14. This organization held

a shower Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Rawdon Barnes for the benefit of the Presbyterian

Children’s Home. Miss Martha Bruce and Mrs. Nickle, of Montgomery, visitors, conducted the

devotional and spoke on the Presbyterian Home respectively.

The LeGrand Community Club will meet with Mrs. T. O. McDowell, Nov. 15.

Preaching services will be held at Providence Presbyterian Church Nov. 17 with the Rev. C. H. Rodgers

of Marbury, pastor, in charge.

The Sellers Civic Club will meet Nov. 14 with Mrs. Desma Brady as hostess. A talk on the origin of

Thanksgiving by Miss Evelyn Brady. The club leaders will give the demonstration lesson.

Stephens as hostesses. The club leaders will give a demonstration lesson and Mrs. J. W. Sellers will make

a report on the district meeting.

The Smilietown Community Club will meet Nov.21 with Mrs. A. F. Jones, Mrs. W. B. Parker, Mrs. F. S.

Benbow and Mrs. Edgar Wright as hostesses. Roll call response will be made with a Thanksgiving verse

or sentiment. A special feature will be a talk on Thanksgiving Day by Mrs. Mamie Thorington. The club

leaders will give the demonstration lesson.

The Chesser Community Club will hold its monthly meeting Nov. 27, with Mrs. Pinson as hostess.

The LaPine Civic Club will meet Nov. 19 for an extension lesson in textiles, to be given by the county

agent. Miss Annie Lou Spear will preside.

The Stones Civic Club will meet Friday afternoon for a social program at the home of Mrs. B. C. Capell.

Roll call will be answered with suggestions for recreation.

The Ramer Parent Teacher Association will meet Wednesday at the school. Members of the faculty will

present a group of pupils in a program, following the business session. Mrs. H. V. Bell will preside.

The Snowdoun Woman’s Club will hold its demonstration meeting Nov. 13.

Newly-elected officers of the senior class of Pike Road High School are: President, John Hall; vice-

president, Joe Stowers; secretary, Rochelle Willis; treasurer, Ed Davis; reporter, Ann Howard.

The Montgomery County High School football team will play at Wetumpka with the Secondary

Agricultural School Friday afternoon.

The Grady Parent Teacher Association held its monthly meeting at the school with Mrs. Lucien Anderson

presiding. During a business session, members voted to buy toothbrushes for the 75 pupils enrolled, to

rebuild the playground equipment, and to buy a volley ball for the school. Dr. W. K. Naftel agreed to

donate a two months’ supply of toothpaste and the P. T. A. voted to purchase enough for the remainder of

the year. Mrs. Elizabeth Naftel, principal, and chairman of the landscaping committee, reported the lawn

was ready to sow Winter grass seed and Mrs. C. D. Keener reported plans for setting out trees this month

under the supervision of G. H. Dyar, county vocational teacher. Mrs. M. M. Tucker reported 40 paid

memberships, and Mrs. T. S. Skipper reported efforts to encourage attendance of all new members. Mrs.

Moody Farrior, finance chairman, gave plans for a benefit chicken supper. An address on communicable

diseases by Dr. W. K. Naftel and a talk on “Training Americans for Citizenship,” by Mrs. Sallie Athey

were the principal features of the program. Durham Tucker gave a reading and the fifth and sixth grades

gave a group of songs. Millicent Scrushy was in charge of the devotional.

The week of prayer observed by Methodist Churches the past week was the occasion for special programs

by the LaPine Methodist Woman’s Missionary Society. Among these was the opening program Monday

afternoon, held at the home of Mrs. L. H. Hudson, when Miss Mary Vic Mauk, of State Teachers College

in Troy, a former missionary to Korea for five years, made a talk on Korea. Miss McNeill, of Troy, was

also a visitor.

The November meeting of the Pine Level Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society was held Wednesday

afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ray C. Guice. A continued program with other parts emphasizing the

Thanksgiving season was given. Miniature pumpkins, turkeys, and chrysanthemums were used in the

decorations, symbolic of the season. The program opened with group singing followed by the Bible study,

conducted by Mrs. J. M. Townsend who also presided. Mrs. Morris Wingard gave the continued lesson

and Miss Guice Stevens gave a talk on “The Shuck Centennial.” Miss Ruby Smilie, Mrs. John Albert

Rhodes and Misses Mary Frances Guice and Alice Jewel Townsend had other numbers on the program.

Miss Leila McGhee gave a reading, and members of the school faculty gave a vocal number, “Go and

Tell.” After the business meeting a salad plate was served by the hostess. The December meeting was

announced for the usual date at the home of the president.

Members of the senior class of Pike Road High School have received their class rings.

The Catoma Community Club met in regular session Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Rebecca L.

Brock on the Selma Highway. Mrs. V. C. Elgin conducted the business session at which time reports of

the secretary and treasurer were heard. Miss Eunice Ward of the health department gave a brief history of

the department and told of the services it rendered. The lesson demonstration on “Buying Your

Wardrobe” was given by Miss Sue Jones. Afternoon refreshments were served.

The Ramer Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society will meet Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Nancy Rushton

with Mrs. H. H. Bass as joint hostess. Mrs. W. H. Green will be leader of the royal service program.

Mrs. Pauline Curtis, Mrs. W. H. Green, Mrs. C. M. Brooks and Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Cosby, of the Ramer

Baptist Church attended the W. M. U. district meeting in Eufaula Tuesday.

treasurer. Teachers have been appointed as follows: Mrs. Albert Jones, beginner’s class; primary class,

Mrs. G. L. Cherry; junior class, Miss Mae Hall; intermediate class, Miss Helen Thompson; senior class,

to be supplied; adult class, G. H. Dyar.

The Woman’s Auxiliary of Providence Presbyterian Church will meet Thursday afternoon.

The LeGrand Community Club will meet Friday afternoon with Mrs. T. O. McDowell.

The Round Table Club of Grady will meet Nov. 20. A special program on Thanksgiving will be given.

The Pinedale Civic Club will meet on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the home of Mrs. James McInnis for a

luncheon meeting to be followed by the monthly extension lesson. Roll call will be answered with current

events.

The Pine Level Methodist Woman’s Missionary Society will meet Tuesday afternoon at the church.

The Sellers Civic Club will meet on Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Desma Brady as hostess. Miss Evelyn

Brady will give a talk on the origin of Thanksgiving and the club leaders will give the extension lesson.

The Montgomery County High School football team will go to Opp Friday afternoon to meet Opp High

School in a game.

The Snowdoun Woman’s Club will meet Wednesday afternoon for an extension lesson to be given by the

club leaders. Mrs. J. P. Curry will be hostess.

The Pine Level Parent Teacher Association met Monday night at the school. J. M. Townsend presided

and the Rev. W. O. Calhoun conducted the devotional. During a business session plans were discussed for

a fair to be held on Nov. 19. Miss Margaret Huey presented an entertainment program in which a number

of pupils participated.

The Ramer Methodist Woman’s Missionary Society met in monthly session Tuesday afternoon at the

home of Mrs. W. D. Smith with Mrs. M. E. Hill as hostess with Mrs. S. U. Turnipseed, president in the

chair reports were heard from the secretary and treasurer and birthday offerings and dues were received.

Mrs. Turnipseed reported the work being done in the rural sectors and the drive for better motion pictures.

Encouraging reports were heard from the children’s division superintendent and the mission study

superintendent. Plans for a mission class at an early date were made by Mrs. P. H. Harris. Plans for the

unification of the three Methodist churches were told by Mrs. J. C. Sellers, who also made a request for a

Christian stand on the Ethiopian question. Mrs. J. D. Turnipseed and Mrs. Will Wingard volunteered to

care for the church during the present month. A nominating committee consisting of Mrs. J. D.

Turnipseed and Mrs. J. E. Felton was appointed to report at the next meeting. Mrs. Harris was reappointed

yearbook chairman. Mrs. J. E. Felton and Mrs. A. C. Felton were announced as hostesses for December,

and Mrs. D. E. Collier as leader. The club agreed to cooperate with the Civic Club in a community

Christmas tree. Mrs. C. E. Rushing directed the mission program on which Mrs. P. H. Harris, Mrs. J. C.

Sellers, Mrs. G. H. Dyar and Mrs. Mrs. N. J. Cowles took part, telling of the objectives of the week of

prayer. Sandwiches, cake and chocolate were served.

The Junior Hope Hull Woman’s Club met Friday afternoon in the church annex. Miss Johnnylyn

Campbell presided. Mrs. Mary Ward was elected songleader. Mrs. Mamie Thorington, assisted by Miss

Sue Jones, gave a lesson in color and its relation to dress, as given at the extension lesson by Miss

Dorothy Dean. During a social hour, a salad plate in season motif was served.

Mrs. Mamie C. Thorington, county home demonstration agent, will have the following itinerary this

The Smilietown Community Club will meet Nov. 2a for an extension lesson in the study of textiles. Mrs.

Thorington will make a talk on “Thanksgiving Day.” Response to roll call will be a Thanksgiving verse

The Catoma Parent Teacher Association will meet Monday night at the school with Mrs. Irby Whittle

presiding. The hostesses will be Mrs. M. C. Gordon, Mrs. R. L. Long, Mrs. Z. P. Gordon, Mrs. C. B.

Thames and Mrs. W. L. Lamar.

The Ramer Civic Club will meet Nov. 26. Mrs. W. U. Turnipseed, president, assisted by Mrs. M. C. Story

The Pine Level Parent Teacher Association will sponsor a benefit fair at the school auditorium Tuesday

night.

The Young Woman’s Auxiliary of the Ramer Baptist Church met Wednesday afternoon at the home of

Martha Helen Brooks. The following newly-elected officers assumed their duties: Frances Connally,

president; Martha Helen Brooks, vice-president; Marjorie Cherry, secretary-treasurer. Miss Mayme Carter

is director.

The Ramer Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society will hold a mission study class Tuesday afternoon at the

home of the president, Mrs. C. M. Brooks. Tests will be given at a later date by Mrs. N. J. Cowles. The

annual week of prayer for foreign missions will be observed De. 2-6.

A box supper for the benefit of the Frances E. Willard fund for education against alcohol and for the

Montgomery Tuberculosis Sanatorium was held Saturday night at the Snowdoun clubhouse under the

auspices of the local chapter of Woman’s Christian tTemperance Union.

Mrs. Seals Menefee (Loris McLeod), of Grady, was honoree at a miscellaneous shower Saturday

afternoon at the home of Mrs. E. F. Wingard. Hostesses were Miss Maxine Wingard, Mrs. H. J. Wright

and Miss Mae McLeod.

The Grady Parent Teacher Association will meet Thursday night at the school with Mrs. L. Anderson

presiding. A Thanksgiving program will be given under the direction of Miss Georgia Collier, primary

teacher. Elder, J. W. McLeod will make a Thanksgiving address and the pupils of the first and second

grades will give the devotional by singing Thanksgiving songs and a prayer.

The Grady Round Table Club will meet Wednesday afternoon at the school auditorium. All members of

the club will serve as hostesses. The principal feature of the program will be a Thanksgiving talk by the

Rev. W. H. Cook, of Fort Deposit, Miss Eunice Ward, county health nurse, will also make a talk.

Rufus Fannin, of Dublin, Coleman Wingard and W. C. Jackson, of Center Point; Russell Hassey, of

Grady and Bill Milligan, of Ramer, were among the county farmers who attended the recreational school

for rural leaders given at Huntingdon College last week.

The LeGrand Civic Club met Friday at the home of Mrs. Jesse H. Reynolds. A lesson in textiles and

testing materials was given by the county agent, Mrs. Mamie C. Thorington assisted by club members.

John Ivey, of Auburn, poultry specialist of the Alabama Extension Service will conduct a lesson in

poultry Monday at 10 a.m. at the Administration Building of the County Department of Education for the

poultry leaders of home demonstration clubs of the county. Mr. Ivey will give directions of special

interest to growers of backyard flocks. The lesson was arranged by the county homes agent, Mrs. Mamie

C. Thorington.

The Pike Road Parent Teacher Association will meet at the school Monday at 7:30 p.m. Miss Margaret

Waugh will conduct the devotional and prayer. Dr. M. L. Rutland, of Montgomery, will make a talk on

“Oral Hygiene and Its Relation to Health.” Miss Annie Byrd Jones will give a reading. A play, “The

Cotton Tails and Mother Goose in Healthland,” will be given with the following children from the first

and second grades in the cast: Sam Jordan, Gene Handy, Margaret Louise Sullivan, Jane Harwell, Mary

Ann Dees, David Polk, John Hartley, Mildred Abercrombie, Willie Sue Canty, Vera Mae Barnes, Neva

Brown and Charels Joiner.

The Snowdoun Woman’s Club held its monthly extension lesson Wednesday afternoon at the home of

Mrs. J. M. Cutts on the Norman Bridge Road. Following roll call and a business session presided over by

Mrs. M. G. Mashburn, the club leaders gave a demonstration in textiles and testing materials.

Mrs. James McInnis was hostess to the Pinedale Civic Club members at a luncheon, meeting Tuesday,

after which the regular monthly extension lesson was held, with the club directors in charge.

Mrs. Nancy Rushton and Mrs. H. H. Bass were hostesses to the Ramer Baptist Woman’s Missionary

Society Tuesday afternoon at the home of the former. The Royal Service program, continuing the study of

the Christian conquest in China, was given with Mrs. C. M. Brooks presiding. A special feature was a

dialogue by Mrs. Albert Jones, representing Henrietta Shuck, the South’s first Baptist missionary heroine,

and Miss Edna Connally, representing Mrs. Dodd, who visited China last year. Others taking part on the

program were Mrs. M. B. Rushton, Mrs. J. H. Connally and Mrs. G. C. McDowell. Mrs. Green was

leader. Mrs. Waller, of Loachapoka and Mrs. W. A. Webster, of Hope Hull, were out-of-town guests.

During the social period, refreshments were served.

The Ramer Junior 4-H Club will meet Tuesday morning at Montgomery County High School.

The Pine Level Junior 4-H Club will meet Thursday morning. Mavis Hooks will preside.

The Woman’s Auxiliary of Hope Hull Methodist Church will sponsor a bazaar at the church Wednesday

afternoon. Proceeds will be used toward paying for the recent annex built to the church.

The Ramer Civic Club is making plans for a bazaar to be held in December for the benefit of the

scholarship fund sponsored by the Montgomery County Council of Home Demonstration Clubs.

The Montgomery County High School football team will play Pineapple High School Friday afternoon at

Collier Bowl at Ramer.

The Ramer Chapter Future Farmers of America will initiate the following candidates into the “greenhand”

degree Tuesday. Malcolm Sellers, Will Haden Norman, Thomas Newman, James Guy Scaife, Herbert

Hassey, Klem Paulk, Mack Grant, Tharon Broadway, Roland Anderson, and Underwood Sneed. The

from Wetumpka, Holtville, Eclectic, and Marbury.

A benefit play “Welcome Home, Jimmie,” will be given at Montgomery County high School Tuesday

night under the auspices of the Ramer Athletic Association. Admission to be 15 and 25 cents. In the cast

will be Myrtle House, Ben Wilson, Jimmie Houlton, Estelle Stephens, Lamar Smilie, Roland Anderson,

Dewitt Keener, Bannie Dillard and Mary Frances Guice. Mrs. Mildred Green Neville is the director.

The Pinedale Civic Club will meet Tuesday afternoon, with Mrs. Hickman as hostess. Preceding the

program, which will be given under the direction of Miss Edna Sullivan, plans will be made for a

Christmas program and for making a club quilt which will be sold for the benefit of the club treasury.

During the social period, a gift shower will be held for Miss Edna Sullivan, bride-elect, and Mrs. Perdue

(Gladys Maddox) a recent bride.

Plans are being made by the Ramer Civic Club for a community Christmas tree to be held on a vacant lot

in the business section. Other local organizations will cooperate in arranging a program.

Schools of the county will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holidays.

Mrs. J. F. Duggar was hostess to the Hope Hull Woman’s Club Thursday afternoon at the clubhouse.

Grover C. Hall, editor of The Montgomery Advertiser, was guest speaker, addressing the members on

“The Business of Editing a Newspaper.” A number of visitors was present.

The clubhouse at Hope Hull and the new annex to the Hope Hull Methodist Church are being painted. A

bazaar was held by the Ladies Auxiliary Wednesday to raise funds for the church annex painting. The

Woman’s Club is sponsoring the painting of the clubhouse.

The Friendship singing club met Saturday night at the home of Coleman Wingard in Center Points.

The Pleasant Ridge Civic Club will meet Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Charles Gregory. Mrs.

Peter Pouncey and Miss Mather Tucker will be in charge of a Thanksgiving program.

Mrs. Marshall Chandler of Pike Road and Mrs. W. J. Dendy of Grady entertained Saturday afternoon at

the home of the latter in honor of Miss Louise Wright, who will be married Thanksgiving Day to Felix

Russell.

Etta B. Smith Chapter No. 290 Or – of Easter Star, will meet at Ramer Masonic Hall Wednesday at 7 p.m.

After the business session, member and their guests will be served a turkey supper.

The Round Table Club of Grady met Wednesday afternoon at the school auditorium. During a business

session over which Mrs. W. M. Mills presided, the following officers were announced for next year: Mrs.

E. F. Wingard, president; Mrs. M. M. Tucker, vice-president; Mrs. C. E. Mills, secretary; Mrs. T. S.

Skipper, treasurer. A meeting of the officers was called for Thursday afternoon to make plans for next

year’s study, which will be based on a course in home improvement. Mrs. Lucien Anderson, Mrs. W. V.

Bell and Mrs. C. D. Keener were appointed to make plans for adding books to the club library. Mrs.

Anderson reported plans for setting out shrubbery in the club park. During the social period, Billie Hugh

Farrior gave several vocal selections. Coffee, sandwiches and cake were served.

The Senior three child development class in the vocational division of Montgomery County High School

entertained a group of children Friday afternoon in the home economics building under the supervision of

Miss Mae Hall, vocational home economics teacher. Children’s games were diversion. Refreshments

were served. Guests were : Betsy Smith, Mary Emma Sellers, Sarah Mitchell, Billy Neville, Gilbert

Sellers, L. C. Griffith, Jr., Frank Wingard and Ronald Wingard.

A Thanksgiving program will be sponsored at Pinedale Chapel Thursday by the Civic Club and the

Sunday School. Dr. Yarbrough of Montgomery will be the guest speaker. Mrs. James Stoner will tell a

Thanksgiving story. Special music will be arranged.

The Pinedale Fellowship Club held a program and social meeting Friday night at the home of Miss

Elizabeth Jones. The meeting this week will be at the home of Mrs. I. E. Kendrick.

The Grady Farm Bureau met at the school Tuesday night with C. E. Mills presiding. Lem A. Edmonson,

county agent, spoke to the members, encouraging them to send a representative to the National Farm

Bureau meeting in Chicago Dec. 9-11. L. Anderson, local poultryman, made a talk on poultry. Richard

Wible, assistant farm agent, led the singing. Refreshments were served during a social meeting.

Holiday visitors in the Pinedale community include Dr. Warren Sorrell, of Lexington, Ky., guest of his

brother, Dr. Walter Sorrell; Charles S. Jones, of St. Louis, and Roy E. Jones and son, Roy, Jr., of

Birmingham, guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Jones and Mr. and Mrs. James Stoner.

A harmonica band has been organized at Montgomery County High School with officers and members as

follows: Grace Connally, president; Richard Payne, secretary-treasurer; Richard Amason, reporter; Mary

The monthly leadership school for home demonstration club leaders of the county will be held Monday at

10 a.m. at the Administration Building of the Department of Education on South Lawrence Street. Miss

Dorothy Dean of the Alabama Extension Service and Miss Dana Gatchel of the faculty of the Alabama

Polytechnic Institute, will give a lesson in making Christmas gifts at home.

The LaPine Civic Club met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Esther Webster. Roll call was

answered with quotations from the Bible. During a business session, presided over by Miss Annie Lou

Spear, president, plans were discussed for improving the church grounds and other civic improvements. It

was further decided to meet on a definite date and with the assistance of the young people of the Sunday

School, do special work on the church grounds. Mrs. Mamie C. Thorington, county home agent, gave a

report of the poultry leadership school and gave a demonstration in testing textiles. Miss Eunice Ward,

county health nurse, gave a talk on the present health program of the county. Several new members were

enrolled. The club was invited to a spend-the-day party with Mrs. W. C. Naftel, of Naftel, for the

December meeting. A salad plate with coffee was served.

A nice fund for the Improvement of the Methodist parsonage in LaPine was raised at an oyster supper

sponsored recently by the Woman’s Missionary Society. Plans are now being made for raising more

funds.

The monthly Royal Service and business meetings of the Ramer Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society

will be held jointly in December, the meeting to be on Dec. 10, with Mrs. C. P. Cosby and Mrs. J. H.

Connally as hostesses. A nominating committee, appointed by Mrs. C. M. Brooks, president, and

composed of Mrs. G. C. McDowell, Mrs. T. W. Collier, Mrs. M. B. Rushton and Mrs. A. L. Carter, will

report at this meeting.

This week will be observed by the Ramer Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society as annual week of prayer

for foreign missions, with special offerings for the Lottie Moon fund. Meetings will be held each

afternoon at the church from Monday through Friday.

The Ramer Parent Teacher Association will meet Wednesday afternoon at the school auditorium. Mrs. H.

V. Bell will preside.

Among the family groups assembled for the Thanksgiving holidays was that of the Rushing family, which

met at the home of Mrs. W. W. Payne in Dublin. Attending were: Mr. and Mrs. W. T. M. Rushing, of

Selma; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. (Regina Rushing) and children, Robert and Richard, of Dublin; Mr. and Mrs.

Weldon Rushing and Mr. and Mrs. John Williams (Carrie Rushing) of Montgomery; Kenneth Rushing, of

of Deatsville; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar H. Harlin (Martha Reddoch) and children, Edgar, Jr., and Valeta Ann,

The Rev. W. O. Calhoun, pastor of the Ramer Methodist Circuit, has been reassigned to this circuit for

another year. The Rev. T. G. Jones has also been reassigned to the LaPine circuit.

The Pinedale Fellowship Club held its weekly program and social meeting Friday night at the home of

Mrs. I. E. Kendrick.

Misses Lillie McInnis, Eunice McInnis, Valeria McInnis and Lottie McInnis, all of whom teach in

Birmingham, were at their home in Pinedale for the Thanksgiving holidays.

Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Bell entertained a family group at dinner at their home at Ada on Thanksgiving Day.

Mrs. Hickman entertained members of the Pinedale Civic Club at her home Tuesday afternoon. Following

roll call, plans were discussed for the annual community Christmas party which will be sponsored by the

club at Pinedale Chapel on the night of Dec. 27, and the following committee was named to make

arrangements: Miss Mary Alice Boland, chairman, Mrs. James Stoner and Miss Lillie McInnis. A special

feature of roll call was short sketches of books recently read by each member. Member also answered roll

call with a quilt square which will be made into a club quilt and sold on the night of the Christmas party.

A brief demonstration lesson in textiles was given by the club leaders. During the social period, a gift

shower was held with Miss Edna Sullivan, bride-elect, and Mrs. Gladys Maddox Perdue, a recent bride,

as honorees. Refreshments in the Thanksgiving motif were served.

A reunion of the Wright family was held Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Smilie in

Smilietown, assembling Mr. and Mrs. John Wright and children, Lewis and Bell, of Atmore; Mr. and

Mrs. O. C. McNeill (Mamie Wright) and family of Macedonia; Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Smilie (Daisy Wright),

and family. Mr. and Mrs. Gillis Smilie and family, of Smilietown.

Miss Clodine Nuegent, who teaches in Dozier; Miss Madell Milligan, who teaches in Brundidge, and

Miss Minnie Sellers, who teaches in State Teachers College in Jacksonville, were among the teachers

who returned to their respective homes near Ramer for the Thanksgiving holidays.

The Montgomery District F. F. A. Association will meet at Ramer Monday night with Ramer Chapter,

Future Farmers of America, as hosts.

Mrs. Mamie C. Thorington, county home demonstration agent, will have the following itinerary this

week: Monday, leadership school; Tuesday, Pike Road junior and senior 4-H clubs; Wednesday, Ramer

senior 4-H club; Thursday, forenoon, Catoma 4-h Club; afternoon, Catoma Community Club; Friday,

The Junior Woman’s Club of hope Hull entertained at a dance at the clubhouse Saturday night.

Among the college students who spent the Thanksgiving holidays at home were Miss Minoise Thompson,

of Smilietown, who attends Birmingham-Southern, and Miss Nannie Gay Pettus of Hope Hull, who

attends Judson.

A group of 25 rural leaders from the various precincts of the county attended a special farm meeting at

Auburn Tuesday under the direction of R. G. Arnold, district farm agent. The group was accompanied by

Lem A. Edmonson, county farm agent.

The annual Christmas program and tree of the Ramer Civic Club will be held Monday afternoon at the

home of Mrs. A. D. Cowles, immediately after a demonstration lesson by the club leaders. Mrs. J. H.

Milligan will be assistant hostess.

The Pine Level Parent Teacher Association will give a Christmas program Monday night at the school.

Mrs. Susie T. Wingard and Mrs. Jessie L. Money will be in charge of the program.

The Pike Road Parent Teacher Association will have a Christmas program and business meeting Monday

night at the school.

The Christmas meeting of the LaPine Civic Club will be held Tuesday at the home of Mrs. W. C. Naftel,

who will entertain the members at a spend-the-day party. A demonstration lesson will be given in the

afternoon by Mrs. Mamie C. Thorington, county home agent. Miss Annie Lou Spear will preside.

The Ramer junior and elementary 4-H Clubs will hold their monthly meetings Tuesday morning at

Montgomer County High School.

The Christmas meeting of the Pike Road Civic Club will be held Wednesday afternoon at the home of

Mrs. Vaney Gerald. A business session and demonstration lesson by the club directors will precede the

Christmas program and tree.

The Grady Round Table Club will hold its annual Christmas party Wednesday afternoon at the home of

the president Mrs. W. M. Mills. A tree with gifts for the members will be a feature of the entertainment.

The Ramer Chapter, Future Farmers of Alabama, will give a program before the members of the

Montgomery Rotary Club at their weekly luncheon Wednesday at the Gary-Teague Hotel in

Montgomery. Windom Parker, of Pine Level is the F. F. A. president.

The Literary Guild of Pine Level will hold a Christmas party Thursday night at the home of Mrs. C. W.

Adams. Mrs. Jessie Lee Money of the high school faculty, assisted by other members of the faculty, will

be in charge of the program. A Christmas tree with gifts for the members will be a part of the

entertainment.

The members of the Priscilla Club of Pike Road were entertained at an oyster supper Friday night at the

home of their president, Mrs. Harry Brown. Their husbands were the hosts.

Emerigency adult schools opened in the county Tuesday as follows: Pine Level, Mrs. Solomon Johnson,

teacher; Grady, Mrs. Ethel Bell, teacher; Dublin and Friendship, Mrs. A. L. Bigger, teacher; LaPine, Mrs.

King Naftel, teacher.

Schools of the county will suspend classroom work on Dec. 20 for the annual Christmas holidays. Work

will be resumed Jan. 2.

The Mt. Zion B. Y. P. U. will sponsor a Christmas party at the church on Christmas Eve night.

The Pine Level Epworth League will sponsor a Christmas tree at the Methodist Church, the date to be

announced.

The Pine Level Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society held its annual Christmas meeting Wednesday

afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. M. Townsend. Yuletide decorations were used. The tea table was

centered with a miniature Christmas tree and lighted with tapers. A mission program was given by Mrs.

Ray C. Guice, Mrs. Eunice McGhee, and Mrs. John A. Rhodes. A special musical number was by Mrs.

Morris Wingard, Miss Margaret Huey and Miss Ruby Smilie, accompanied by Mrs. Jessie Lee Money.

Miss Ruby Smilie also gave a vocal solo and Misses Mary Frances Guice, Leila McGhee, and Alice Jewel

Townsend presented a playlet. The closing prayer was by Prof. Walter T. McKee. After the program,

annual election of officers was held, with results as follows: Mrs J. M. Townsend, president (re-elected);

Mrs. Morris Wingard, vice-president; Mrs. Roger Daniel, secretary; Mrs. Eunice McGhee, treasurer.

Salad plates and hot chocolate were served.

Newly-elected officers of the Ramer Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society are: Mrs. G. L. Cherry,

president; Mrs. W. V. Neville, first vice-president; Miss Mayme Carter, second vice-president; Mrs. C.

M. Brooks, third vice-president; Mrs. G. C. McDowel, secretary; Mrs. M. B. Rushton, treasurer.

The Pinedale Civic Club met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Marvin Berry. During the business

session, Mrs. Walter Sorrell and Miss Lottie McInnis were appointed to investigate needy cases in the

community for Christmas baskets. A demonstration lesson in making Christmas gifts at home was given

by Mrs. James McInnis, assisted by other directors of the club. The Christmas party was announced for

Dec. 27 with Miss Mary Alice Boland, Mrs. James Stoner and Miss Lillie McInnis as the committee in

charge.

A quilting party will be held by the Pinedale Civic Club this week to complete a quilt which will be sold

for the benefit of the scholarship fund.

The Dublin Community Club will entertain at a “kid party” at the home of Mrs. F. P. Hicks during the

Christmas season for the benefit of the scholarship fund.

The Stones Civic Club met Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Cecil Dowdell. Mrs. C. L. Chenault

presided. Roll call was by the secretary, the members answering with incidents in Alabama history. Miss

Eunice Ward, county health nurse, gave a paper on communicable diseases. Plans were made for a

Christmas tree on Dec. 27. Thirteen members were present.

The next meeting of the Ramer Parent Teacher Association will be postponed until the second

Wednesday in January since the regular meetings date falls on New Year’s Day.
