HOW DOES IT WORK? Teams of 6, or 4 for Ultra Racers, cover 100-miles running the Virginia Capital Trail by tag-teaming the distance, relay style. Your Team
Vehicle drops off one runner at a time to take on one of the 16 legs of the race. After dropping your runner at a designated exchange
zone, the Team Vehicle and remaining team members drive ahead to the next exchange zone to meet the runner, exchange the timing
chip and cheer on the next runner. Each team member runs 3 legs, which range in distance from 3.5-mi to 8.5-mi. Depending on your
team’s strategy, an individual runner could run as short as 10.5-miles, as long as 24.5-miles, or anything in between. **New for 2018
we will allow rolling exchanges. Rolling exchanges will be allowed for all parts of the course except from EZ1 to the Finish line.
Meaning each team can pull over and find a safe place to park and exchange runners during all parts of the race except the last leg of
the race. The person that starts the last leg must be the person that finishes the race.

7:15am and 6:45pm-Midnight, every person outside of their Team Vehicle is required to wear a reflective vest, headlamp
or flashlight and LED “tail/butt”lights.
Team Vehicles:
Team Vehicles must seat at least 6 seat-belted passengers, but no more than 15, and be less than 20-feet long. Due
to limited parking at many of the Exchange Zones, vehicles such as motor homes, RVs, trailers and/or buses are not
permitted as team vehicles. We strongly encourage the use of 12-15 passenger vans or SUV’s for team vehicles. All team
vehicles must comply with all Local, State and Federal safety laws.
Reflective Vests / Headlamps / LEDs:
Anyone outside the Team Vehicle during the hours of 5:00am-7:15am or 6:45pm-Midnight is required to wear a reflective
vest, a headlamp or flashlight, and LED “tail/butt” lights. This includes active runners, team members at an Exchange
Zone (Exchange Zones can be busy and hazardous, especially in the dark)
or any team member out of the team vehicle and NOT at an Exchange Zone.
Injured Runners:
If an active runner can no longer continue to the next Exchange Zone, he/she may be replaced by another team member
to complete the leg.
Follow Correct Route:
It is the responsibility of each team to know the course and be aware of the location of each Exchange Zone. Teams are
responsible to make sure that their runners stay on the course. If a runner goes off course, they should return to the spot
they went off course and continue. The course will be marked; however, signage can removed or changed.
Route:
The entire relay route must be run and/or walked, and all runners MUST remain on the Capital Trail during the event
unless they need to leave the trail to reach an Exchange Zone.
Visible Race Number:
Race numbers must be worn by all active runners and must be visible. Team Vehicles must have race numbers on the
back window.

duration of the race. You will need this wristband for course and post-race access.
Timing Chip:
Team Captains will be given one black timing chip ankle band-. The chip must be strapped to the ankle of each runner
while running each leg of the course. . No Chip = No Time = No Results.
Timing Chip Return:
Volunteers will be available to remove the timing chip at the finish line. In the event you do not start or do not
complete the entire race, you must turn your timing chip in to a Rev3 Staff Member or Race Official. Do NOT turn your
chip into a volunteer. Failure to wear your timing chip during the race, return your chip after the event, or pay the
replacement cost of your lost chip may disqualify you from future Rev3 events. Lost timing chip replacement fee:
$110.00
Lost or Found timing chips may be returned to:
Rev3– Timing Department
10396 Central Park Dr
Manassas, VA 20110
Pacing:
No pacers will be allowed. (Unless the active runner is under the age of 18, in which case pacers are encouraged.
All such pacers must be registered relay participants, and may not use any outside assistance such as bicycles,
skateboards, or inline skates.)
Road Closures:
The entire run takes place on the Virginia Capital Trail which prohibits motorized traffic. However, there are places where
the trail crosses major roads. Note that NONE of these roads will be closed to traffic and that runners and drivers of

Due to the nature of the course, Team Vehicles are not permitted to follow their runners or to drive by their side. If there is
sufficient room to safely pull completely off of the road without obstructing traffic and without causing danger to anyone,
you may do so to cheer on your runner. Otherwise, Team Vehicles must proceed at the posted speed limit.
Alcohol:
Absolutely NO ALCOHOL is allowed on the course or in Team Vehicles at any time. Violation of this rule will result in
immediate team disqualification. There will be plenty of beer available at the post-race party when you are done.

All participants must display courtesy, good taste, decorum and sportsmanship at all times. This includes not littering or
polluting the landscape or environment. Bathrooms and portable toilets are readily available throughout the course. Use

general public at risk will automatically result in a team disqualification.
