OC International Student News

On Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 a cultural presentation about India was successfully held

by the Office of International Education in collaboration with the Multicultural & Student

Programs. The presentation started with the introduction of the history of India, ancient

royal kingdoms, Mughal era and British empire. The event room was fully packed with

guests who were curious to learn more information about India. Also, students from Inten-

sive English classes attended this event.

During this presentation, I talked about the role of diversity in India by providing a recent

political example where Sonia Gandhi, who is a Christian, stepped back despite of winning

the presidential election, for Manmohan Singh, who is a Sikh, to serve as the new prime

minister of the nation which is consisted of almost 80 % Hindu. Furthermore, the then President APJ Abdul

Kalam was a Muslim. I also talked about tourism such as Taj Mahal, the Golden Temple, the Oberai Udaivilas,

and it was one of the hot topic during the presentation. India is referred to as a holy country with 330 million

gods which means more festivals and fun. Therefore I discussed the main festivals celebrated in India, the tra-

ditional marriages, and the historical yoga. Music and dance is in the air of India which was discussed how peo-

ple gather on festival to show their love while dancing on the beats. This was a precious moment in my life to

represent the culture ,tradition, and other aspects of India as a presenter of this presentation. -Kuldeep
